NARRATIVE REPORT
IN
CAREER GUIDANCE CELEBRATION
S.Y. 2016-2017

On July 27, 2016, Manga National High School celebrates the opening of the Career Guidance
Advocacy Program with the theme: “Fostering Entrepreneurship through Talent, Innovation and
Technology for Career Advancement.” The students chose what career they plan to pursue in the future
and they asked to wear an attire based on their chosen field. A series of activities were done on that day
which includes the automated registration of the learners from Grades 7 to 10 in the career that they want
to be. While the registration was going on, a formal program followed. Mrs. Shirley P. Sumugat, the
Principal, gave the welcome remarks and Mrs. Alicia N. Platero did the presentation of the different
career. The students were grouped according to the career that they want to pursue. The different groups
were: Educators, Engineers, AFP/PNP, Business, Medical, Marine, ICT and Technical-Vocational.
During the presentation, each group with different career has to give a yell.

Miss Wella Dico, the guest speaker, made the celebration a successful one because the students
were very inspired of her message. She emphasized on the end-goal that a person must have. She stressed
in her speech that a person needs to set his/her goals so that he /she will be directed to the right
destination. The students were attentive during her speech because she was able to move the students’
hearts and made them realize how important setting goals are. Mrs. Sumugat, who gave an inspirational
message, was able to add color to the celebration because she was able to inspire the learners by
challenging them to make their dream board so that they will be directed to their dreams in life.

The highlight of the program was the presentation of each group in their attire. The different
groups rendered song and dance numbers. The program was then ended by a closing prayer by Vicente
C. Beltran.

The career guidance advocacy program continued on September 20-21, this year but this time
only by the Grade 10 students. Modules 1 and 2 were discussed by the class adviser, Mrs. Elsa Sanopao.
The conduct of the modules was so interesting because the students enjoyed a lot in making their self-
portrait bag and dream collage. The activity helped the students a lot to get to know well about oneself
because it is about self-awareness and how big they can dream. The essence of the activity was the group
sharing because they were able to share to the group who they are and what are their dreams in life. The
students showed fun and enjoyment by their smiles, laughs and tears. The fun continued when the activity
on mystery box was done. The students found it difficult to predict what are the things or objects inside
the box. After the activity, they realized that it’s not helpful if you lack the knowledge or you don’t have
any idea about what are the things inside the box. They were asked to write in their journal about how
they view uncertainty.

On October 6, the module 3 was discussed following the schedule in the conduct of the module.
The students were informed about the different tracks and strands of the senior high school. To test their
knowledge, they were able to answer the ten sets of questions given to them. The following week, the
Grade 10 students were so excited for their career guidance program. They were asked to make their
application letter and resume in the morning of October 6 and had their job interview in the afternoon.
Mrs. Sheila B. Cubio, an English teacher did the lecture for application letter and resume making and Mr.
Joel B. Lumasag, a Math teacher gave the tips on what to do during job interview.

In all, the celebration was so fruitful and worth remembering because the celebration culminates
with a simulated job fair where the students in their corporate and semi-formal attires, were given the
opportunity to experience how it is to apply for a job, undergo interviews and get hired on various fields
of interests such as teaching, IT and business, professional and customer service and skills or blue-collar
jobs.
