Over the years, the Brigada Eskwela effort has evolved from a week-long cleaning-up and
beautification exercise to a festive coming together of students, teachers, school officials, parents,
community members, local government officials, non-government organizations, church groups and
the private sector. It, too, has become one of DepEd’s major initiatives in enjoining local communities
to respond to the needs of public schools and be part of a nationwide effort towards improving
Philippine basic education.
This was made possible by the hard work and determination of school heads in finding
innovative ways to bring children to school, keep them there, and ensure that they will learn. Brigada
Eskwela will not be what it is today, if it were not for the strong leadership in our public schools. This
year’s theme is “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Bayan.” Villa Domingo National High School
upholds the department’s vision in improving the learning condition and environment for the benefits
of the learners.
Simple opening program was done to set the mood and stimulate the enthusiasm among the
volunteers. This will also provide the opportunity to acknowledge the volunteers and stakeholders who
are supporting the program. It was attendant by the presence of prominent stakeholders in the
community, teachers, barangay officials, PTA and School Governing Council members. It started with
parade to cascade the community of the start of Brigada Eskwela 2019 that can help boost the
implementation of the program. During the opening program, a presentation on the mechanics of
Brigada Eskwela program and overview of planned activities discussed by the School Head Mr.
Marcelo B. Ralutin I. This includes: school work plan on Brigada Eskwela, major projects/activities to
be done, donations and commitments received during pre-implementation phase - support or assistance
needed to accomplish targets. The PTA President Mrs. Brenda O. Gallasinao also delivered her
message to all the participants in the Day one’s activity.
After the simple opening program, the cleaning of surroundings followed. Parents and teachers
worked hand in hand in cleaning the surroundings of the school to achieved the goal in maintaining a
safe environment and conducive to learning.

The third day of this week-long activity is all set. The Bureau of Fire Protection went to the
school to inspect and give assistance in the electrical wirings of the classrooms in ensuring the safety
of our learners. Parents and students also came to the school to participate in the third day activities.
Their presence was highly appreciated for it really done a great help in lessening the burdens of the
teachers. They removed the unwanted plants/grasses to maintain the outside of the classroom. Pruning
of trees is also done to remove dead branches, to improve form, and to reduce risk. This activity will
prepare the school readiness in case of calamities like typhoon. There are also volunteers coming from
the religious sectors specifically the Church of God-Villa Domingo, volunteers around the community
and the presence of 4P’s.
Repair of chair, tables and repainting of blackboards is the 4th day activity of the Brigada
Eskwela. This is to ensure the availability and readiness of the school’s facilities to facilitate conducive
learning that will help and enhance the learner’s eagerness to learning. Seeing those newly painted
blackboards will make the learning very productive, interactive and enjoyable to learners. The chairs
that is being repaired will make the learners comfortable. This activity is attended by the volunteers
from religious sectors particularly the Church of Christ-Villa Domingo, 4P’s, parents and students.
The fifth day of the week-long School Maintenance is scheduled for the cleaning of classrooms.
Classrooms is a very important factor in affecting the children’s learning development because it is the
second home of the learners and during classes they will be staying there for eight hours, so maintaining
a classroom conducive to learning is a must for every school. Participants of the fifth day activity is

urged to help the teachers prepare their classrooms for the school opening specifically for the first day
of school so that the learners will no longer be tasked to do so during the first day in the school because
the classrooms are now ready for the new beginning and new learning. Alumni, 4P’S, parents and
student participated this 5th day of Brigada.
