Configuring ATM Services
Configuring ATM Services
Contents

This chapter describes the process of configuring asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) services
and inverse multiplexing for ATM (IMA) on the T2000. In addition, related engineering
requirements and information are introduced. Through this example, you can learn how to
configure ATM services and other similar services.
In this chapter, the OptiX OSN 3500 product is taken as an example. For the OptiX OSN 2500 and the
OptiX OSN 1500A/B, service configuration is performed in the same way. The only difference is that
the boards of the OptiX OSN 2500 and the OptiX OSN 1500A/B are inserted in different slots.
Title Description
5.1 Configuring ATM Services Describes how to configure ATM services on the
T2000.
5.2 Configuring IMA Services Describes how to configure the IMA services on the

The value of Max. VPI Bits and Max. VCI Bits indicates bits of a binary numeral. If the value is 4, the
maximum value of VPI or VCI is 24=16.
There are two types of ATM ports: UNI and NNI. Their two different cell structures determine the
maximum value of VPI bits supported by the ports.
The UNI type: max. VPI Bits is 1–8, and max. VCI Bits is 6–16.
The NNI type: max. VPI Bits is 1–12, and max. VCI Bits is 6–16.

The IMA is applied at the interfaces of E1 or other rates to transmit ATM signal cells. The
IMA just provides a channel and does not process the service types and ATM signal cells. The
signals at ATM layer and the high layer are transparently transmitted.
The boards with the IMA feature which are supported by NG-SDH products are the IDL4 and
IDQ1 boards.
