Prefabricated Waterstop for Circular Tanks
When Extaseal waterstop is required to be prefabricated to form a circle the details below can be used as a
design guide to establish the number of chords required compared to the deviation obtained from a true circle.
Where the circular waterstop is placed on blinding sloping towards the centre the number of chords may be
reduced. Where the radial joints are required the number of chords used should be divisable by the number of
radial joints.

SCP Dual Seal Bentonite
Description:
Dual Seal Waterstop is a Bentonite based waterstop which reacts in contact with water by swelling to form a
watertight seal in concrete structures.
Dual Seal Waterstop has been independently tested up to 30 metre head of water, it has full WRC approval for
use with potable water.
Uses:
Dual Seal Waterstop has been specifically designed to seal construction joints against the ingress or outgress of
liquids in water retaining or excluding structures.
Dual Seal Waterstop is fixed by nailing to the face of the existing pour prior to placing the next pour. It is
installed directly onto scabbled surfaces and will swell into voids up to 12mm deep. Changes of direction and
end joints are simply achieved by butting together, no welding or adhesives are required.
Dual Seal Waterstop can be applied to green concrete and in damp conditions.

Description
SCP Superstop has been developed to provide a watertight seal in construction joints, and is
particularly effective when used in ‘box out’ applications. When water comes into contact with
Superstop the bentonite expands to form a pressure seal which has been successfully tested to
withstand a 33 metre head of water without leakage.
Uses
Superstop can be used in pre-cast or in-situ concrete installations and is ideally suited for the
following applications:
• Concrete Cold Joints in below ground walls
• Construction Joints in Slabs
• Water Treatment Works
• Sewage Treatment Works
• Pre-cast Concrete Panels
Application
Superstop is fixed either by nailing or adhering into a previously formed 12mm x 25mm void (using a
reusable void former), around the perimeter of the box out and must be confined on all four sides. Dual
Seal Waterstop can be used as a puddle flange around the pipes. Concrete is then poured into the box
out and compacted. Any water passing through hairline cracks between the different surfaces will
cause the Bentonite to swell and form a totally watertight seal.

Description:
SCP Swelltite Hydrophilic Waterstop is manufactured from a neoprene polymer based hydrophilic
compound and high water absorbent resins. Swelltite has been specifically designed for use in sealing
construction joints between pre-cast concrete units, steel and in-situ concrete. Unlike traditional
waterstops Swelltite is centrally placed and bonded flat in the joint prior to making the second pour,
activated by water Swelltite will swell up to 5 times it’s volume and seal the passage of water by
exerting pressure across the joint.
Uses:
Swelltite was primarily developed for use to provide a watertight seal between pre-cast concrete units
such as concrete pipes and tunnel segments, however it can be installed into a previously formed

Dualtite PVC/Bentonite Expansion Joint Waterstop
Description:
Dualtite Waterstop consists of a PVC profile manufactured from weldable waterstop grade material incorporating
Dual Seal Hydrophilic Bentonite Waterstops, which swell in contact with water, to form a totally watertight seal.
The lug on either side of the central section, ensures that Dualtite is fully embedded into the adjacent concrete
surface, and its unique central core design allows the joint to open up to 50%. When Dual Seal Bentonite
Waterstop is installed in Kicker or Construction Joints, it is simply butt joined to the integral Dual Seal Waterstop,
in the Dualtite, to create a totally watertight system.
Uses:
Dualtite Waterstop should be used in all Expansion Joints, in conjunction with a Fillerboard, when there is a
requirement to keep water in or out of concrete structures. These would include Concrete Reservoirs, Water
Treatment Works, Sewage Treatment Works, Canals, Flood Relief Channels and Basements etc.
Application:
Dualtite is fixed centrally to the stop end shuttering, prior to the first concrete pour. When the concrete has cured
and the stop end is removed, the Expansion Joint Fillerboard is then located in position, within the locator lugs,
and the second pour completed. Welding of straight runs of Dualtite is achieved by using an Electric Heating
Blade, and Dualtite Jig. Changes of direction are achieved using Factory-made Junction Pieces and Intersections

Installation:
Dualtite Bentonite Expansion Joint Waterstop is simply nailed to the shuttering prior to the first pour.
The lugs secure the waterstop to the concrete as in a conventional waterstop, however, the Dual Seal
Bentonite waterstop acts as a secondary barrier. Should water try to track across the joint. This
combination provides the reassurance of installing a mechanical sealing system based on the passive
valve and tortuous path systems pioneered by the Cement and Concrete Association during the early
1970's, together with the active water swelling sealing systems of the 1990's.
Specifically for use in concrete expansion joints where an active waterstop is required to provide
maximum integrity. Dualtite is easy to install and is fully compatible with the SCP range of construction
type waterstops, it can be easily welded on site thereby providing a cost effective solution and
simplifying transition between construction and expansion joints with a range of prefabricated
junctions available.
Dual Seal waterstop is used on it’s own within construction joints, but when fully integrated within
Dualtite offers many advantages.

Installation
Inspection:
A. General: Examine surfaces specified to receive waterproofing to ensure that they are in a condition
acceptable to manufacturers recommendations. Ensure that voids greater than 10mm are filled with grout,
and sharp protrusions over 10mm are removed.
B. Do not Install membranes in standing water.
C. Ensure that where tapes are used that the surfaces to which they are to be adhered are free from dirt, dust,
snow, ice release oils and other contaminents.
D. Horizontal surfaces should be swept clean, particularly the surface of the wall footing.
Preparation:
A. Layout: Anticipate conditions prior to start of work. Note termination and penetration positions to
determine methods for ensuring a watertight envelope.
B. Fillets: Form fillets with 50mm of Dual Seal Mastic, or Dual Seal Granules at intersections of walls and
footings . Form fillets with mastic at the inside of vertical corners and around penetrations.
Installation:
A. Install the Dual Seal Membrane where shown on the drawings and in accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommendations as approved by the Architect and/or Engineer.
Note: In horizontal applications Dual Seal is normally installed with the bentonite face down, however, Dual Seal
LG may be installed under a floor with the bentonite side up depending on the weather and site conditions.
Bentonite Side down:
A. Dual Seal membrane is laid directly onto blinding prior to the laying of the slab, however if the substrate
consists of soils, sand, gravel or crushed stone ensure that the aggregate does not exceed 12mm, a 1000g
polythene sheet should be used so that the bentonite expands against a smooth substrate.
B. Unroll sheet fully and place the membrane over prepared surfaces in such a manner as to ensure minimum
handling.
C. Install membrane with bentonite side down lapping the edges by 50mm. Tape all overlaps using Bitusheet
tape and extend the membrane by 300mm at perimeter to allow sufficient overlap with the vertical
membrane and mechanically fix at the toe.
D. Fit closely and seal around pipe penetrations as recommended.
E. Inspect and repair any damaged material before placing the concrete, by placing a square of membrane over the
damaged area and fully tape in position.
Bentonite side up:
A Ensure that substrate is level and compact. Substrate may consist of soils, sand, gravel or crushed stone
provided they are 12mm or smaller in diameter. Ensure that temporary cover is provided to the bentonite to
prevent premature expansion.
B. Unroll the Dual Seal LG fully and lay the membrane over the prepared surface,
C. Install Dual Seal with edges overlapped by a minimum of 50mm. Joints may be stapled every 200mm.
D. Extend the Dual Seal Membrane 300mm up or beyond the perimeter slab. This will be used later to tie
in vertical membrane.
E. Fit closely around pipe pentrations as recommended.
F. Inspect and repair any damaged material before placing the concrete.
G. Protect exposed bentonite from moisture by taping at joints and covering with a polythene strip at edges.
Vertical Backfilled Walls:
A. Inspection - Confirm that all areas to receive the membrane are suitably prepared.
B. Form fillets at vertical wall / horizontal intersections with Dual Seal mastic and seal at vertical inside
corners, under ledges and at penetrations.
C. Place the membrane over prepared surfaces where shown on the drawings. Dual Seal is generally installed
vertically to the outside wall, however it can be installed horizontally along the wall. The HDPE (black) side
which should always face the installer when it is being fixed, however an exception to this would be if it was
being used in blindside concrete when it is fixed to permanent shuttering in which case Dual Seal LG must be
used.
D. After unrolling, the Dual Seal should be nailed across the top, mechanically fixing the membrane every
300mm and allowing the sheet to hang down onto the footing. Install 2nd sheet by overlapping onto the first
sheet by 50mm. Pull taught and nail through both sheets at the overlap area, followed by Bitusheet tape centred
over the overlap joint, to prevent stones and debris entering the joint.
E. Properly treat all penetrations by cutting a seperate section of the membrane to fit snugly around penetrations
and bed on a 50mm triangular Dual Seal mastic fillet.
F. Terminate the membrane at top of walls by mechanically fixing at 300mm centres and make certain that the
membrane extends to form continuity with the above ground waterproofing details.

SCP HPS Waterproofing System for damp and difficult conditions.
Description:
Bitusheet HPS Waterproofing System consists of SCP's widely used Bitusheet range of Cross Laminated
membranes, applied in conjunction with SCP's high performance primer. These components have been
specifically developed to promote a high bond strength between Bitusheet membranes and substrates with
damp or difficult conditions and where performance is required at temperatures down to -100C
Uses:
The Bitusheet HPS Waterproofing System is designed for use where unusually low temperatures are evident
and where dampness exists on the substrate. It is ideal for basement applications and previously covered
earth/concrete reservoir roofs which are being renovated.
Slip Membrane
Extaseal Waterstop
Bitusheet XL SCP Protection Board
Winter Conditions:
The Bitusheet HPS Waterproofing System can be installed in most conditions and whilst having a wide
temperature tolerance should not be applied when the temperature is 3oC or more below dew point because of
the risk of condensation, or when temperatures exceed 60oC. With decreasing temperature the membranes
will stiffen. This will not cause any significant problems with installation down to the minimum temperature of
5oC. Bitusheet membranes remain functional and flexible to well below -10oC and will remain stable up to a
normal maximum of 60oC. Where severe temperatures down to -30oC are expected Dual Seal membrane
should be used (see Technical Data Sheet No.44)
Application:
Ensure that the substrate is clean and free from surface water and sharp protrusions. Apply the primer evenly
by brush or spray, avoiding pooling and over application. Allow to dry before applying the membrane. If the
application of Bitusheet is delayed more than 4 hours after priming, the surface must be re-primed.
HPS Primer
Description:
A pink mobile liquid designed to improve the bond between Bitusheet and Substrates.
Application:
All surfaces must be clean and free from loose matter. Primer can be applied by brush or roller, at
temperatures to below -100C, providing that the surface is completely dry prior to application of membrane.

Application
Construction techniques should conform to relevant Codes of Practice, Building regulations and British
Standards.
Surface to which Liquid Asphaltic Compound are to be applied must be clean, dry and frost - free. Any
defects must be made good, projections being removed and voids filled. Brickwork or Blockwork
should be flush pointed and open textured surfaces rendered.
Apply first coat of Liquid Asphaltic Compound at 1.5m2/L, brushing well to ensure complete coverage
and to prevent material from pooling or collecting in depressions. Allow to dry thoroughly before
applying second coat at 2.5m2/L. Ensure the membrane is fully dry before proceeding.
When used as a DPM in solid floor construction, the membrane should be brought up adjoining vertical
surfaces to marry with DPC. The membrane should be covered with a minimum 50mm floor screed.
A weak rendering (12:1 Sand/Cement) or a suitable protection board must be employed to protect the
membrane when backfilling. When used for internal tanking, back pressure should be counteracted by
building a blockwork or brick skin 18mm from the membrane and the cavity filled with a sand cement
mortar.
Notes
• Dr ying times may be extended in cold, humid conditions or in areas of poor ventilation.
• Particular attention should be paid to areas where services penetrate the membrane, in such areas
the membrane should be reinforced with a reinforcing fabric and third coat of Liquid Asphaltic
Compound used to ensure the integrity of the waterproofing.
• Triangular fillets should be employed at all changes in direction.

Surface Preparation:
All surfaces should be smooth, clean and dry. Loosely adhering material and sharp protrusions should be
removed by mechanical means. Concrete or renders should be allowed to dry before applying Bitusheet
membrane.
Priming:
All vertical surfaces should be primed using Bitusheet Primer. Horizontal surfaces do not require priming where
the membrane is covered with a screed, floor slab etc. Priming should be carried out as follows:
(i) Roll can well before use.
(ii) Apply at the rate of approximately 7m2/L. Only prime that area which is to be covered with Bitusheet
within the next 4 hours. Allow to dry for at least 1 hour until touch dry. Keep free from dust.
(iii) On very porous surfaces, use two coats of primer.
Application:
Internal angles must always be provided with an adequate fillet of concrete or SCP Bituflex Fillet, then after
priming as previously described a 300mm wide reinforcing strip of Bitusheet must be applied with 150mm on
either side of the centre of the fillet.
External angles or corners must be provided with a 25mm x 25mm splay and this covered with a 300mm wide
strip of Bitusheet XL applied equidistant from the centre of the splay.
The first strip should of Bitusheet be laid such that the selvedge is placed to accept the edge of the following
strip, with each subsequent strip laid in the same way. The protection paper should be removed from the
selvedge before bonding the overlap joint.
Horizontal membrane should preferably be laid prior to the application of the vertical membrane, adequately
protected from damage by a minimum 25mm screed or protection board, with the membrane bonded to the
vertical surface at least 200mm above the top of the screed so that the vertical Bitusheet can be overlaid.
If it is not possible to apply the screed over the DPM before the application of the vertical membrane, full and
adequate protection must be given to the horizontal membrane to prevent damage.
Vertical membrane - cut off the appropriate length of membrane, then starting at the top of the area to be
waterproofed, peel off at least 200mm of release sheet and bond the Bitusheet firmly to the surface, tucking the
end of the material into the appropriate DPC or chase. Gradually peel off the remainder of the release sheet
downwards, at the same time rolling the material against the surface until the bottom of the wall is reached. At
the base, the vertical membrane must overlap the horizontal membrane by at least 100mm.
All subsequent sheets must overlap the preceeding sheet by 50mm at the edges onto the selvedge strip and by
100mm at ends. Overlaps must be thoroughly rolled to ensure adequate bonding.
Backfilling — on vertical applications where an abrasive backfill is to be used the Bitusheet membrane should
be protected by a concrete outer skin, brick skin or Bitusheet protection board, the latter being held in place by
SCP Joint Filler Adhesive.
Precautions:
Bitusheet and Bitusheet Primer must not be applied when the surface temperature of the substrate falls below
5°C.
When a brick-skin is applied to the face of the vertical Bitusheet, care must be taken not to damage the
membrane and a gap of 40mm should be left which is filled with sand/cement mortar as work proceeds.
Only sufficient Bitusheet should be laid which can be protected as work proceeds.
When areas of Bitusheet are left exposed for any length of time ensure that all edges are held in place by
battens.

DESCRIPTION:
SCP Slabdrain is a cavity drain former manufactured from a dimpled H.D.P.E., designed to provide a drainage
channel beneath the concrete in floor and wall construction. The former is provided with selvedges to enable
joints to be sealed to give a water and gas tight membrane.
USES:
Generally in type C construction to provide grade 4 protection as defined in BS 8102: 1990. “Protection of
structures against water from the ground”.
SCP Slabdrain may be used in floors and walls to provide a drainage void beneath the concrete to relieve both
water and gas pressures. The HDPE core provides high strength to resist the loads imposed by placing wet
concrete. By sealing the selvedge joints, SCP Slabdrain will also provide the membrane.
BENEFITS:
INSTALLATION:
GENERAL
SCP Slabdrain is applied dimple side down to the substrate, the surface should be smooth and even.
Subsequent rolls should be laid so that the selvedges overlap, end laps are formed by overlapping a minimum
of 200mm (3 dimples) and interlocking the dimples. Selvedges are sealed using 50mm Double Sided Tape, end
laps are sealed with Uraflex Sealant.
SCP Slabdrain is fixed to the substrate using Bitusheet 75mm Double Sided Tape applied onto Bitusheet Primer.
Alternatively SCP Slabdrain may be mechanically fixed through the base of the dimples and sealing all fixings

WALL/FLOOR JUNCTION.
SCP Slabdrain should be terminated at the wall and sealed to it with a 300mm strip of Bitusheet tape lapping
150mm onto the Slabdrain and 150mm up the wall. The dimples should be filled with fast setting grout to
provide a flat surface to receive the membrane. Once dry all surfaces should be primed with Bitusheet Primer,
and allowed to dry, then the Bitusheet strip applied. The same technique is to be adopted at columns or other
abutments. Where a drained wall is also required, the SCP Slabdrain is turned up the wall a minimum of
200mm and interlocked over the vertical application by a minimum of 3 dimples. All laps to be sealed as
previously described. Ensure the drain cavity is maintained at the wall/floor junction.
DRAINAGE CHANNELS.
SCP Slabdrain should be carried through to all drainage channels and sumps as directed by the Engineer.
FOLLOWING TRADES
No heavy plant or wheel barrows should be used directly on the slabdrain, walkways must be provided for
wheel barrows etc. Repairs may be effected by cutting and placing a piece of Slabdrain over the affected area,
overlapping and sealing as previously described.
FINISHES
Steel mesh reinforcement, if required, can be supported off the Slabdrain in the usual manner.

Description
SCP Walldrain consists of a preformed lightweight plastic core bonded to a geotextile filter. The filter was
specially developed to permit free entry of water, but not soil, and so prevent soil particles from clogging the
drainage system.
Walldrain is designed to be placed with the geotextile filter layer facing the direction of water seepage or backfill.
Walldrain can be applied against waterproofing membranes or directly against the masonry/concrete substrate.
Uses
Walldrain relieves hydrostatic pressure against the vertical walls of buried structures - basements, retaining
walls, reservoirs, tunnels, bridge abutments, culverts and underground car parks.
Walldrain provides a second line of defence to channel seepage water away from the structure and is
designed to fully comply with the requirement of type 'C' design BS 8102.

Description
The SCP Joint Support System comprises of a unique (patent pending) composition of flexible plastic,
sealed with a pre-bonded self adhesive strip and adjustable locking support. The unique locking
support allows the joint system to cater for varying cavity widths and provides rigidity where
longitudinal joints need to be made at critical points within cavities. The SCP Joint Support System
combines flexibility of use with joint integrity and fully complies with the current standards laid down
for the use and application of cavity trays.
Preparation
No preparation is required for installing the joint support where cavity tray’s are to be built-in to
internal brick or blockwork. Where cavity trays are to be surface fixed a 100mm band of bituminous
primer should be applied to the substrate prior to application of a 100mm wide double sided tape to
allow continuity of the cavity tray either side of the joint support.
Application
Once the surface to which the cavity tray is to be fixed, has been suitably prepared the joint support
is simply installed either by building-in to the inner and outer leaves of brick/blockwork, or surface
fixed as described above. The linear run of cavity tray is bonded onto the joint support by removing
the release paper on the integral bituminous strip provided. The joint is then completed by applying
a 100mm wide of bituminous tape (supplied) which is then sandwiched between both runs of cavity
tray. The joint support is also used to fully bond between linear run and preformed junctions.
Supply
The SCP Joint Support System is supplied in boxes of 10 complete with one roll of 100mm wide double
sided bituminous tape. For surface fixing applications a plastic fixing strip is available and supplied
separately in 2 metre lengths.

Joint Design:
Elastomeric Sealant.
‘4254’Two Part Polysulphide, Non Biodegradeable Polysulphide, Coldseal 200-90, Coldseal 200D.
The optimum width to depth ratio should be 2 : 1 with a minimum depth of 10mm. As shown below
A bond breaker strip must be placed at the back of all expansion and contraction joints prior to placing the
sealant. Where bitumen impregnated filler boards are used care must be taken to ensure that bitumen does not
come into contact with the sealant.
Mixing and Application:
Add the entire contents of Pack B to Pack A and stir for a full five minutes, preferably using a slow speed electric
drill with blade type stirrer, until a completely homogeneous mix is obtained. Take care to avoid including
excess air. Mixing is made easier if the Pack B is added and mixed in two stages. Immediately after the sealant
is mixed it should be applied to the primed joint. Use of masking tape will help to obtain a clean finish.
Preparation of substrate:
All joints should be completely dry and free from all traces of dirt, dust, grease, any previous sealants, and
other foreign matter. Cleaning may be carried out by wire brushing, either hand or machine operated, grit
blasting or grinding. In all cases, a clean bonding surface must be obtained. Joint sides must be parallel and
straight. Spalled joints should be repaired with an appropriate material, such as Epoxy mortar.
Following preparation, place into the base of the joint a bond breaker or back up material to form the correct
cross section for joint sealant and to prevent the sealant bonding to the base of the joint.
Priming:
The sides of the prepared joint should be primed with the appropriate primer; for porous surfaces e.g.
concrete, wood, nosings etc. - use Primer P. For non-porous surfaces e.g. steel, glass etc. - use Primer N. After
priming, allow half an hour for solvents to evaporate. If application of the sealant is delayed for more than two
hours after priming, joints should be re-primed. For all epoxy nosings, Schlegel Primer P must be used.
Cure Times:
The application time and rate of cure will depend upon the temperature of sealant and the ambient temperature
at the time of application. At higher temperatures, the rate of cure will be faster. Do not apply at temperatures
below 4°C.
Cleaning of Tools:
Tools should be cleaned with Cleaning Solvent before the sealant cures.
Health & Safety Precautions:
Harmful if taken internally, do not inhale the fumes.
Primer N is highly flammable with a flash point of not below 10°C.
Primer P is flammable with a flash point of not below 40°C.
Avoid inhaling the fumes of these primers.
Storage:
The storage shelf life is approximately 12 months, but the material should be used before the date stamped on
the container.
Storage temperature range is 5°C to 28°C. Store in dry conditions.

Uses:
Primer type ‘P’ is used, following joint preparation, to seal porous Joint void surfaces prior to the installation of
‘4254’ Two Part Polysulphide, Coldseal 200D or Coldseal 200/90 joint sealants.
Application:
Primer should not be applied at temperatures below 5°C. A bond breaker strip must be placed at the back of
all expansion and contraction joints prior to placing the sealant. Where bitumen impregnated filler boards are
used care must be taken to ensure that bitumen does not come into contact with the primer or sealant. All
joints should be completely dry and free from all traces of dirt, dust, grease, any previous sealants, and other
foreign matter. Cleaning may be carried out by wire brushing, either hand or machine operated, grit blasting
or grinding. In all cases, a clean bonding surface must be obtained. Joint sides must be parallel and straight.
Spalled joints should be repaired with an appropriate material, such as Epoxy mortar. Following preparation,
place a bond breaker or back up material into the bottom of the joint void to form the correct cross section for
joint sealant and to prevent the sealant bonding to the base of the joint.
A thin coating of Primer type ‘P’ should be brushed onto the sides of the prepared joint. After priming, allow 30
to 60 minutes for solvents to evaporate and the primer to become touch dry before applying the sealant. If
application of the sealant is delayed for more than two hours after priming the joints should be re-primed.

SCP Top Crack Inducer/Joint Former
Description:
The SCP range of crack inducers are specially designed profiles to form stress relief joints in concrete slabs laid
using the long strip system of paving.
Uses:
Clearcrack, manufactured from Heavy Duty P.V.C., is designed for use where the top section of the crack
inducer is to be left in situ in the floor to form a wearing surface.
The two part crack inducer is designed for use where the top section is removed to expose a sealant void which
is sealed with SCP Compression Seal or Sealant.
For use in internal floor slabs when top section can be left in situ. For use in external slabs, roads, hardstandings where the joint
has to be sealed.
