Revival Fires Baptist College Christian Ethics Professor: Dr. Dennis Corle Ethics and The Lord World

This document summarizes a lecture on Christian ethics given by Dr. Dennis Corle. The lecture discusses several biblical passages to illustrate ethical principles. It analyzes the Good Samaritan story to show that all people in need are our neighbors, and we have an ethical duty to help them. It also discusses the story of the leprous men finding the abandoned Syrian camp, noting we should share good news and blessings with others. The lecture teaches that being selfish and ignoring the needs of others is unethical, while generosity and meeting needs when possible align with biblical ethics.

Ethics and the Lord World

I. Luke 10:25-37, “And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master,

what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how

readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,

and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as

thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. But he,

willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? And Jesus answering

said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which

stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by

chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the

other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and

passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was:

and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his

wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn,

and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave

them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more,

when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour

unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said

Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.”

famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now

therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live;

and if they kill us, we shall but die. And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of

the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold,

there was no man there. For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of

chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another,

Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the

Egyptians, to come upon us. Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their

tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life. And

and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came

upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see

the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword

come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his

blood will I require at the watchman's hand. So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a

watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth,
