Fire Test : API 607 / API 6FA
3. PRESSURES-TEMPERATURE RATING
ASME B16.34
4. DESIGN FEATURES
4.1 Seat Sealing Feature
- Upstream Seat: Differential pressure acting on both sides of seat pushes the seat tightly
against ball surface, creating a positive seal.
- Downstream seat: When the body cavity pressure is lower than the downstream
pressure, the net pressure difference pushes the downstream seat, creating a positive
seal.
Seat Testing
The high-pressure seat test shall be performed using an inert gas as the test medium.
Shell Testing
The high-pressure shell test shall be performed using an inert gas as the test medium.
4. ANTI-STATIC TEST
The electrical resistance between the ball and the body shall be measured using a direct-
current power source not exceeding 12 V. The resistance shall be measured on dry valves
before pressure testing and shall not exceed 10 Ω.
5. TORQUE TEST
The maximum torque required to operate the ball valves shall be measured at the design
pressure specified in the general arrangement drawings for the following valve operations:
Open to closed with the bore pressurized and the cavity at atmospheric pressure
Closed to open with both sides of the ball pressurized and the cavity at atmospheric
pressure
Closed to open with one side of the ball pressurized and the cavity at atmospheric
pressure
As above, but with the other side of the ball pressurized
Torque testing shall be performed following hydrostatic shell testing and prior to low-
pressure gas seat testing.
Failure to relieve at a pressure less than 1.33 times the valve pressure rating shall be cause
for rejection.
Seat tightness shall be monitored via overflow through the valve cavity connection.
