OCCPL 1 OF 3
This procedure covers the method statements for hydropneumatric testing, &
record keeping of tank as per contract specification and API 650 11TH
editions. & GA Drawings.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is provide a guide line to carry out the Hydro
pneumatic test to check soundness of vertical & horizontal joints of tank.
3. REFERENCE CODE
1. API-650 (Latest edition) 7.3.4 & 8.6 Eleventh edition
2. As Per Approved Drawing / Client Specification.
4. Tank is mechanically i.e., all hot work related to tank is completed. All document
related to NDT shall be checked foe completion. Transparent water tube shall be
connected to level indicator nozzle to monitor water level inside the tank.
Suitable level marker shall be marked equidistance on 1st shell course at 8 place on the
Circumference to monitor the settlement of tank at different stage of filling. These
marking shall be done after transferring from master level already marked nearby the
foundation. Roof manhole nozzle shall be kept open during filling and draining of tank.
Shell elevation measurement shall be as per 7.3.6.5(1) of API 650 11th editions.
Water filling in tank is done in 4 stages i.e., 25%, 50%, 75%, 100. After each stage of
water filling load stabilization period for 4 hrs shall be observed. While draining it shall
be 50% level and 4hrs stabilization period shall be maintained and next stage tank shall
be emptied. Holding time when the tank is 100% full shall be 24hrs.
After holding time is cleared roof pneumatic test shall be carried out by closing all roof
nozzle except one where 2 no’s of manometer shall be fixed. Now roof is pressurized
through another nozzle. When manometer water level difference is 30mm water
column, soap solution shall be applied in all roof plate weld joint for checking any
leakage.
