3. Meeting your friend in a cafe/ restaurant

Mr Bean is waiting at the airport for a plane. He has over forty-five minutes to wait, so he decides to find a café and
have a coffee. Inside the cafe it is almost full, so he tries to find a seat and ends up making a new friend with a lady
called Mrs Smith.

Mr Bean : - Excuse me, is this seat free?

Mrs Smith : - Yes.
Mr Bean : - Thanks. (Mr Bean sits down.)
Mrs Smith : - My name’s Mrs Smith it is nice to meet you.
Mr Bean : - Hi Mrs Smith my name is Mr Bean it’s nice to meet you too.
Mrs Smith : - Where are you from, Mr Bean?
Mr Bean : - I’m from Thailand. I have been visiting my family in Manchester. How about you?
Mr Smith : - Same as every day at this time on my way to work, as usual!
Mr Bean : - What do you do?
Mrs Smith : - I’m an English teacher my students love learning English. How about you?
Mr Bean : - I’m also an English teacher, but I’m on holiday right now.

4. Meeting your friend after long time

Situation : Two friends are meeting in a cafe after they haven’t seen for a long time
Lisa : Hi Linda, How are you?
Linda : Hi Lisa, I’m fine thanks. How are you?
Lisa : I’m fine (or I’m doing just fine). It has been a long time since we met the last time
Linda : Yeah....that’s right. The last time we met was after graduation day. What do you do?
Lisa : I work as a Finance staff in Oil company
Linda : That’s great. How long have you been working there?
Lisa : 5 years. So what do you do?
Linda : I work as Graphic Desainer in book publisher
Lisa : I see. How long have you been working there?
Linda : I just work there for a month before that I opened a printing office but the business wasn’t good
Lisa : I’m sorry to hear that. Do you live around here?
Linda : Yes,...I live with my parents. Still single. What about you?
Lisa : hahaha.......well, I’m married. I have two sons. I’m sorry I didn’t invite you on my wedding because I lost
your number
Linda : It was OK. I also changed my number so now I’m trying to get our old friends numbers so we can have a
reunion. What do you think?
Lisa : That’s great idea. We must arrange now....
