The influence of integrated-circuit technology in the past few years on our society has been
pervasive, in area ranging from consumer products to business management to manufacturing
control. The driving force behind this pervasiveness is that the functional capability of modern
integrated circuitry has increased in scope and complexity exponentially with time over the past 20
years. The designers of modern integrated circuitry have continually endeavored to provide more
computational speed with less dissipated electrical power and less circuit board area, while
maintaining a low failure rate and an aggressive cost. The complexity and speed is finding ready
application for VLSI systems in digital processing. Although silicon MOS-based circuitry will meet
most requirements in such systems .The student can acquire knowledge in the design skill of
combinational and sequential circuit with the help of VHDL and CMOS Logic circuit processing
operation, student can use this knowledge as technician, supervisor and programmer in different
sections of industry

10. Prepare a ladder diagram to switch ON and OFF a D.C. Motor.
11. Observe the instruction cycle of microprocessor or clock cycles available in your lab
& measure the time duration using logic analyzer (4 hrs. to be allotted for this
practical).
Mini Projects:
1. Design a mealy sequential network which investigates an input sequence ‘X’ and which
will produce an O/P of Z=1 for any input sequence ending in 1010 provided that the
sequence 001 has occurred at least once Eg. – X =10100101010, Z = 00000000101

2. Design a serial subtractor with accumulator for 4 bit binary numbers. Assume that
negative numbers are represented by 2’s complement.
3. Design 24 bit magnitude comparator using IC 7485.
4. Design F1 = f (A,B,C) = ∑ m i (0,2,5,7), F2 = f (A,B,C) = ∑ m i (3,6,7) using AND –
OR logic/ PLA.

Course Name : Industrial Electronics, Instrumentation And Instrumentation and Control
Course Code : IE/IU/IS/IC
Semester : Sixth for IE/IS/IC and Seventh for IU
Subject Title : Industrial Drives (Elective-II)
Subject Code : 9180
Rationale:
In today’s modern industry various A.C & D.C electrical drives are used. They are either
fixed speed or variable speed type drives. These drives use the various methods to control the speed
like thyrister power controller, voltage to frequency converter etc.
This is a technology subject; knowledge of this subject would enable the student to operate
some controls. In addition, he would be able to carry out preventive and break down maintenance.
Objectives:
43
Learning Structure
Develop the skills to test, troubleshoot & maintain the industrial drives used in different
Application industrial applications.

3. Selection 4. Interpretation
Motor Skills:
1.Testing 2. Measurement
3. Operational.
A) Practical:
1. Measure the output power of chopper for resistive load by varying the frequency and /or
duty cycle of chopper.
2. Find the effect on speed and torque of given D.C. Series motor by varying armature
voltage using step up / down chopper.
3. Find the effect on speed and torque of given D.C. separately excited motor by varying
field voltage using step up / down chopper.
4. Find the variation in armature voltage and speed of given separately exited motor by
advancing or retarding the firing pulses of SCR using single Phase semi converter.
5. Find the variation in armature voltage and speed of given separately exited motor by
advancing or retarding the firing pulses of SCR using single Phase full-converter.
6. Find the variation in armature voltage and speed of given separately exited motor by
advancing or retarding the firing pulses of SCR using three phase full-converter.
7. Find the effect of change of rotor resistance of Induction Motor on speed.
8. Measure the speed of given Induction Motor for various stator voltages using A.C.
voltage controller.
9. Develop a programmme using Microprocessor /Microcontroller to control the speed of
given stepper motor.
(Each group in the batch will develop a separate program, for the given stepper motor. The
program will be developed for different steps of rotations for the motor.)
