    HUMMS – STAND FOR HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

    HUMMS STRAND prepare a student to take on the world and talk to a lot of people. This is for
    those who are considering to take up Journalism , Communication Arts, Liberal Arts, Education and
    other Social – Science related courses in college.

    This strand focuses on the study of HUMAN BEHAVIOR, SOCIETAL CHANGES and ANALYSIS OF
    ARTS , CULTURE, LITERATURE and POLITICS. It involves POLITICAL SCIENCE, ANTHROPOLOGY,
    LINGUISTICS, PSYCHOLOGY , COMMUNICATION and BUSINESS.

    If you take this strand you could be looking forward to becoming a teacher, a psychologist , a
    lawyer, a writer, social worker or a reporter someday. This strand focuses in improving your
    communication skills – and ultimately Priesthood is also a choice in this strand.

    HUMMS means less Math and less numbers- this does not mean that this strand is easier than
    other strands . Part of the curriculum includes Introduction to World Religions, Phil. And World
    Literature, Political and Community Development Specialization subjects and more.

    FIELDS OF EDUCATION COVERED BY HUMMS STRAND :

    COMMUNICATION ARTS:

    Under this HUMMS student learn the discipline , techniques and skills to become a DIPLOMAT,
    JOURNALIST, WRITER, LAWYER among others

    ECONOMIC AND SOCIOLOGY:

    If you have the guts and ideals to go into POLITICS , CIVIC LEADERS, COMMUNITY WORKER
    HUMMS cover these . You can also get careers in HISTORY, PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION , SOCIAL WORK,
    ANTHROPOLOGY, ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING or THEOLOGY.
    EDUCATION :

    Future careers include PROFESSIONALS ON LITERATURE , PHILOSOPHY, GUIDANCE AND


    COUNSELLING, LINGUISTICS, PHIL. STUDIES and ENGLISH. Under HUMMS Curriculum you will deal with
    HUMAN EXPERIENCES through which your lessons will be developed.

    Includes PSYCHOTHERAPY , MARKET RESEARCH, CRIMINOLOGY, and MILITARY SCIENCE

    5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HUMMS STRAND:

    1. HUMMS is for the CURIOUS MINDED

    Others might say PHIL. POLITICS and GOVERNANCE, WORLD RELIGION and BELIEF SYSTEMS , and
    SOCIAL SCIENCES are boring but for curious and inquisitive minds about the world – it will surely
    bring back satisfaction.

    2. PREDICT THE FUTURE

    HUMMS student spend time in looking and studying the past and learn from all the mistakes
    and successes of humanity since the beginning of time – it’s the study of HISTORY and its
    relevance to the CONTEMPORARY WORLD.
    3. List down “WRITING” as one of your HOBBIES

    HUMMS student are expected to be WRITE A LOT – such as CREATIVE WRTING and CREATIVE
    NON-FICTION , you learn to write POETRY, FICTION and DRASMA – this is a “PASSION FOR
    WRITERS AT HEART “.

    4. Get a SUPERPOWER: “ READ MINDS “

    In HUMMS you will have the ability to understand how people think and why they think that
    way. A PSYCHOLOGIST can do this .

    5. YOUR FUTURE CAREERS ARE VERY FULFILLING!

    With you being a LAWYER, TEACHER , DIPLOMAT is very rewarding. You will contribute to the
    world by BRINGING JUSTICE, MOLDING THE YOUTH or CREATING FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN
    COUNTRIES .
