IB MATH SL: Trigonometry Review Questions 1

Part 1: Non-Calculator

Work each question on separate paper. Full marks are not necessarily awarded for a correct answer with no
working. Answers must be supported by working and/or explanations.

1. Find the exact values of the following:

2. If 0° £ A£ 360° , find the possible measures of  A

3. If 0 £ A£ 2p , find the possible measures of  A

4. Given that sin θ = – 2 , cos q < 0 and 0 £ q £ 2p ,

a. find the value of θ;

b. write down the exact value of tan θ.

Part 2: Calculator Active:

Solutions found from a graphic display calculator should be supported by suitable working, e.g. if graphs are used
to find a solution, you should sketch these as part of your answer.

1. A triangle has sides of length 4, 5, 7 units. Find, to the nearest tenth of a degree, the size of the largest angle.
2. The following diagram shows a triangle with sides 5 cm, 7 cm, 8 cm.

3. In triangle ABC, AC = 5, BC = 7, Â = 48°, as shown in the diagram. Find B̂, giving your answer correct to
the nearest degree.
