To sum up, the history of English language underwent lots of significant periods.

The arrivals of
Anglo-Saxon tribes brought with them their language now known as “Old English”. Later, with
the Viking and Norman invasion, Old English got mixed up to a great extent with Old Norse and
French respectively. In the 14th-15th century, William Shakespeare added to the English
language at least 1700 words. The industrial revolutions and the globalization of English
resulted in the development of dozens of local versions and dialects of English and
brought with it more new words!
