CHAPTER IV

FINDING AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents analysis of language styles used in “The

Dictator” movie to answer the questions of the problem. Language style and

social relationship were analyzed one by one into each language styles and it

were put in the table of data precentage.

This chapter consist of two major findings generated from this study.

The first is analysis of the findings that consist of language style used in the

movie show used by two conversation and social relationship from the

dialogue. The second is the discussion that consist of the analysis on each

type of language styles used in “The Dictator” movie.

This research put the identified data precentage of the Language styles

used in “The Dictator” movie.

4.1 Findings

This research analyisis the language style used in “ The two Dictator”

movie. there are two dialogue from each type of language style were being

taken by the writer that become sample of data analyzed and social

relationship that connected with the dialogue. After collecting, identifying

and analyzing the data, this research found that there are the use of language

styles and social relationship used in the dialogue and the writer finds out the

most dominant type. Those data presented in the table below:

Based on the percentage above that there are five type of language styles

from The Dictator Movie they are, (0,2%) language styles of frozen style,

(2,4%) language styles of formal style, (2,4%) language styles of consultative

style, (1,8%) language styles of casual style, (3,2%) language styles of

intimate style.

The five of language styles in The Dictator movie consist of five language

styles. The most used of language styles in this movie is intimate style.

Intimate is the most used because every conversation carried out by the

figures that are a conversation with a friend,familly, and close friend. So,

intimate style can be used as language style to help the writer in telling the

story for the story can be understand easily by the readers.

4.1.1 Language Style Used in The Movie

This study focused on the types of language and such language style

construct the social relationship of the character.In particular, the study

analyze language styles used in “ The Dictator “ movie.

The writer chooses the movie because the movie contains an

interesting languge styles used in “The Dictator” movie. using a style that is

pronounced the same as the one in the use of language that is used daily life-

days.

Martin Joos’s which discusses the five language styles, encompassing:

frozen style (oratorical style), formal style (deliberative style), consultative

style, casual style, and also intimate style.

4.1.1.1 Frozen (oratorical style)

Frozen (oratorical style) is a style which is used in a very formal

setting such as in palace, church, speech of state ceremony, and some other

occasions. This style is more elaborated than the other styles. The sequences of

sentence are complicatedly related this style requires high skill and almost used

exclusively by specialist, professional orators, lawyers and preachers.These

data are classified into Frozen style because there are short speech is used

formal setting by supreme leader in front of Wadiyan’s people.

Formal (deliberative style) is defined as the style of language used for

important or serious situation. It is also used in addressing audience, usually

audience is too large ro permit effective interchange between speaker and

hearers, through the forms are normally not as polished as those in those an

oratorical style. The formal style labels are : yes,no, sir… okay,sir.. and a

very few others.These data are classified into formal style because the

dialogue was inserious condition that occurred in the palace and in the

meeting’s room. Formal style also used in speaking to a single hearer. In this

situation it occurred between Alladin and Newcaster then Alladin and Tamir.

Consultative style is a style that which used in semiformal

communication situation. It is one type of language which is required from

everyday speaker. It is usual form of speech in a small group. Both

participants are active in case when one is speaking, the other will give a

short response. The consultative labels are: yes, no, uhhuu, huh.., that’s right,

I think so and a very few others.These data are classified into consultative

style although the dialogue happened in informal situation which the content

is consult .that occurred between Doctor and Patient then Profesor and

Alladin. The word “Huhu” and No, I would never do that and that indicated

the consultative style itself.

Casual style is a style that is used for the conversation in our

relaxed or normal situation that is appropriate to the conversations with our

friends or sometimes members of a family, such as outside the classroom,

when the student have a chat. These data are classified into casual style

because the dialogue occurred in normal situation in Palace Nuclear Scientist

1 and in Palace then there are relax conversation between Alladin as Supreme

Leader and Profesor then Alladin as Supreme Leader.

Intimate style is a completely private language developed within

families, lovers, and the closest friends. The intimate labels are : dear, darling,

honey, and even mom, dad or other nicknames might be used in this situation.

Alladin and Nadal want to discuss about the nuclear weapon so nadal should

made nuclear weapon for alladin. Alladin as Supreme Leader and Nadal as

professor.These data are classified into intimate style because the dialogue

occurred in Palace Nuclear Scientist 2 between Alladin and Nadal so, Alladin

as supreme leader and Nadal as professor. The word “Supreme Leader”

,“Nadal”, “Popeye” and “Bobeye” and few others that indicated the intimate

style.

4.1.2 Language Style and Social Relationship

The social relationship that influencing from “The Dictator” movie are

social distance that consist of distance and intimate.

For social distance proses a problem for would be traders. As individuals

venture beyond their small, homogenenous social networks, uncertainty about

potential trading partners’ credibility rises. This uncertainty limits agents

ability to realize the gains from exchange. Since most of the gains from trade

lie outside homogeneous social groups, agents face a severe predicament.

Social distance is the extent to which individuals share beliefs, customs,

practices, appereances, and other characteristic that define their identity

(Akerlof1991).

For distance is dimana adanya jarak antara pembicara dengan pendengar

dan tujuannya adalah untuk mengetahui sejauh mana peran tokoh tersebut,

For Intimate is dimana adaanya jarak antara pembicara dengan pendengar

hanya saja ketika pembicara dan pendengar itu berada dalam situasi yang

pribadi.

Dari penjelasan diatas peneliti mendapatkan hasil dari data diatas :

4.1.2.1 Frozen (oratorical style)

Teks percakapan tersebut termasuk kedalam type frozen Style karena type ini

menjelaskan tentang pembicara dan pendengar dalam situasi yang sangat

formal dan ketika itu pendengar sebagai pendengar aktif artinya hanya diam

saja.

Untuk hubungan social dalam teks tersebut yaitu adanya jarak antar raja dan

rakyatnya, bahwa beliau sedang menyampaikan pidatonya kepada masyarakat

wadiya.

4.1.2.2 Formal (deliberative style)

1. Sorry, I can't hear you sir.

2. Seven minutes, sir.

Dalam kedua bagian teks yaitu Sorry, I can't hear you sir and Seven

minutes, sir adalah termasuk kedalam type formal karena type ini

menggunakan kata “sir” sebagai lambang yang menandai bahwa kata tersebut

termasuk kedalam type formal.

Untuk hubungan sosial yang berkaitan dengan teks Sorry, I can't hear

you sir tersebut adalah antara raja dan pembawa berita ketika mereka sedang

mengobrol dalam situasi yang formal.

Untuk hubungan sosial yang berkaitan dengan teks Seven minutes, sir

adalah antara raja dan tangan kanan raja. Mereka mengobrol dengan keadaan

situasi yang formal dan pendengar pun ikut berperan dalam percakapan

tersebut.

4.1.2.3 Consultative Style

Dalam kedua bagian teks tersebut You are HIV-Aladeen, huhu....dan

No, I would never do that! Adalah termasuk kedalam bagian type

consultative.

Untuk teks You are HIV-Aladeen, huhu.... adalah termasuk ke dalam

type consultative karena kata huhu....itu sebagai lambang atau tanda yang

teridentifikasi kedalam type ini serta dilihat daarii konteks dialohg

sebelumnya bahwa dialog sebelumnya menjelasakan tentang konsultasi antara

dokter dan pasien.

Sedangkan untuk teks No, I would never do that! Adalah termasuk ke

dalam type consultative karena kata No itu sebagai lambang atau tanda yang

teridentifikasi kedalam type ini dan juga dilihat dari konteks dialog nya

bahwa alladin sedang berkonsultasi.

4.1.2.4. Casual Style

Alladin asked to professor about the weapon because all his friend have got

nuclear weapon and he asked about head of nuclear program then professor

answered that nadal had excecuted.

in this dialogue that happened about shooting in the head of alladin’s father,

at the time alladin as supreme leader confabing with tamir, suddently

chocolate covered almond nuts fall to head of human corpse and alladin asked

maroush to take it but after that maroush ate it.

4.1.2.5. Intimate Style

Alladin and Nadal discussed about the bombs is coming from cartoons

because alladin want to the shape of the missile top has nothing to do with

aerodynamics and then professor bobeye.
