Dance Misconceptions

1. What are the misconceptions of dance?

5 of the Biggest Misconceptions about Dancing

1. You have to be trained to be Good
Some people, who have never set foot on a dance floor before, find themselves swaying in tune
to the music and make excellent dancers. The reality is that some people have rhythm and it’s
the rhythm that makes you a good dancer. Training is always good, Dance training is also good
for fine tuning the dance moves and learning new types of dance.
2. Dancing Isn’t for Everyone
There are no criteria that anyone has to meet in order to be a good dancer, or even just a
dancer, if you enjoy dancing, take some classes or just hit the local nightclubs and prove this
misconception wrong, once and for all.
3. Your Body Can’t Move that Way
It is true that not everyone’s body has the same flexibility, there’s no reason why with practice,
you can’t learn the moves. Over time, with adequate training, your body will increase its
flexibility and making it easier for you, practice really does make perfect movements.
4. Dancing Lessons are Stressful
Many people enrolling in dance classes that they’re interested in is the fact that they think it’s
stressful, it can be scary to learn a new dance, but the movement itself is actually relaxing.
5. Group Lessons are Satisfactory for Training
Group lessons are great, for socializing and for dancing with partners. The truth is, you won’t
find them in a group. Private lessons help you develop your style, improve your movements and
give you individual attention, especially in your problem areas, private lessons will still benefit
you more than you expect.
2. What are your realizations about the article?
I have learned that those given were beliefs or misconceptions about dancing. Being a
shy type, timid or introvert person I myself have reservations on some activities especially
dancing. Upon reading the following misconceptions it has given me more believe or trust for
myself especially in terms of my dancing skills. I now know that like other people who is good in
dancing, I can be a good dancer like them as well through practice and by trusting my sense of
hearing and tuning to the beat. I can say also that like playing badminton dancing can be fun as
well and emotionally rewarding.
3. How will you apply the learning you have in relation to the article?
If I’ll be given dancing activities or practicum I would welcome and enjoy it. I should
believe in my own capability as it is like other people that are all able to move to the beat. It is
only the heart and belief to ourselves that makes the difference among us human. The beat is
actually there to help us find our bodies groove and flex with practice. Dancing should not be
seen as something negative as like many people learns to live dancing as something rewarding
us not only physically but also mentally.
