Brief Industrial Profile of Krishna District

1. General Characteristics of the District

1.1 Location & Geographical Area.


Krishna district is one of the nine coastal districts of AP. It is bounded by Bay of Bengal
on the East and South , West Godavari on the North-East, Guntur and Nalgonda districts
on the West, and Khammam district on the North. The district covers an area of8727
Sq kms. Krishna district has a coast line of 88kms. The District Headquarters is
Machilipatnam, though the major commercial city is Vijayawada.

1.2 Topography
Kondapalli hill range runs between Nandigama and Vijayawada cities in the district, for
a length of 24 kms. Indrakiladri ( Vijayawada), Jammalavoidurgam, and Mogalarajpuram
are other smaller hill ranges. The coastal belt consists of fertile plains in the Krishna
delta region. Krishna is the major perennial river in the district Muneru, Tammileru,
Budameru are other smaller rivulets. The soil in the district is mainly black cotton (58%),
clay loamy ( 23%) and red loam ( 19%)

1.3 Availability of Minerals.

Major minerals found are Limestone and Iron ore ( Jaggayapet area) , Quartz and sand.

1.4 FOREST
The district has a forest cover of 76186 Hectares.

1.5 Administrative set up.


Krishna district is divided into four Revenue divisions and 50 Mandals. The four
Revenue Divisions are Bandar, Gudivada, Nuzvid and Vijayawada. The district has one
Municipal Corporation and five Municipalities ( Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Jaggiahpet,
Pedana and Nuzvid)
