The Problem and It's Background

This chapter introduces the background and context of the study. It describes the independent variable as extracurricular activities and the dependent variable as the academic performance of selected 10th grade students. It establishes the research problem as determining the effects of extracurricular activities on academic performance. Specifically, it seeks to answer how extracurricular activities reflect in grades, why students join them, and their positive and negative impacts. The chapter also presents a conceptual framework diagram and operational definitions of key terms. It discusses the significance of the study and scope and delimitations.

Chapter I

The Problem and It’s Background

This chapter includes the introduction, theoretical framework,
statement of the problem, hypothesis, scope and limitation,
conceptual framework, significance of the study and the definition
of terms used in the study.

INTRODUCTION
Conceptual Framework

This part of the study discusses the conceptual framework

by the researcher. It is illustrated in a diagram. It follows the
independent and dependent variable model of system approach.

The independent variable consists of The Effects of

Joining Extra Curricular Activities.

The dependent variable is the Academic Performance of

the Selected Grade 10 Students of Camarin Highschool S.Y.
2019.

Independent Variables Dependent Variables

Extra Curricular Academic

Extra Curricular Activities and Academic Performance
Statement of the Problem

The main purpose of this study is to determine The Effects

of Joining Extra Curricular Activities in the Academic
Performance of the Selected Grade 10 Students of Camarin
Highschool S.Y. 2019 – 2020.

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. How does it reflect with their grades?

2. Why do students join extra curricular activities?

3. What are the negative and positive effects of extra

curricular activities in the academic performance of the
selected Grade 10 Students?

Hypotheses
1. There is no significant relationship between extra curricular
activities and academic performace.

Operational Definition of Variables

Extra curricular activities. Something that is extracurricular is on

the outside of your course or career. When you get involved in
an extracurricular activity, you are going outside of what's expect.

Academic performance. Academic performance is the extent to

which a student, teacher or institution has achieved their short or
long-term educational goals. Cumulative GPA and completion of
educational benchmarks such as secondary school diplomas and
bachelor's degrees represent academic achievement.
Significance of the Study

The primary aim of this study lies in it’s attempt to

know the effects of Extra Curricular Activities in the academic
performance of selected grade 10 students of camarin high school
S.Y. 2019 – 2020.
The result of this study will be valuable to students,
teachers, parents, school administrators, and future researchers.
Students will realize the importance of time management.Parent
will be able to understand their children’s situation if ever they
have some issues managing their time. School administrators will
be able to decide what to do with students cooperating with extra
curricular activities, it’s either they’ll give exceptions or not, give
special projects, ect. Finally, future researchers will benefit from
this study, and it will provide them the facts needed to compare
their study during their respective time and usability.

Scope and Delimitation

The primary focus of this study is to determine the

effects of joining extra curricular activities in the academic
performance of the selected grade 10 students of camarin
highschool S.Y. 2019-2020. It is delimited to ____ selected grade
10 students (__ males & ___ females) out of ___ population of
grade 10. This number comprised
___ % of the total population. The research will be conducted
during the school year
