Table. Kruskal-Wallis H Test in 15 years Data.
With the information provided we can now easily compute the sum of ranks for
each of the samples:
R1 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 + 15 = 26
R2 = 4 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 35
R3 = 10 + 11 + 12 + 13 + 14 = 60

1. Null and Alternative Hypotheses

The following null and alternative hypotheses need to be tested:
Ho: The samples come from populations with equal medians
Ha: The samples come from populations with medians that are not all equal
The above hypotheses will be tested using the Kruskal-Wallis test.
2. Rejection Region
Based on the information provided, the significance level is:
- Alpha α =0.05
- df =3 − 1= 2.
Therefore, the rejection region for this Chi-Square test is R = {ꭓ 2: ꭓ 2 > 5.991}.
3. Test Statistics
The H statistic is computed as shown in the following formula:
𝑐
12 Tj 2
𝐻=[ ∑ ] − 3(𝑛 + 1)
𝑛(𝑛 + 1) 𝑛j
𝑗=1

12 262 342 602

𝐻=[ 𝑥( + + )] − 3(15 + 1)
15(15 + 1) 5 5 5
𝐻 = 6.32

4. Decision about the null hypothesis

Since it is observed that ꭓ 2 = 6.32 ≥ ꭓ U2 = 5.991, it is then concluded that the
null hypothesis is rejected. Using the P-value approach: The p-value is p= 0.0424,
and since p= 0.0424≤ 0.05, it is concluded that the null hypothesis is rejected.
5. Conclusion
It is concluded that the null hypothesis Ho is rejected. Therefore, there is enough
evidence to claim that some of the population medians are unequal, at α =
0.05 significance level.
