GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
All questions are compulsory.
The question paper consists of 17 questions divided into three sections A, B and C. Section A comprises of 07
questions of one mark each, section B comprises of 06 questions of four marks each and section C comprises
of 04 questions of six marks each.
All questions in Section A are to be answered in one word, one sentence or as per the exact requirement of the
question.
There is NO step marking.
There is no overall choice. However, internal choice has been provided in 02 questions of four marks each and
03 questions of six marks each. You have to attempt only one of the alternatives in all such questions.
Use of calculators is not permitted. You may ask for logarithmic tables, if required.

13. Find the radius of circle of illuminance, if a luminous object is placed at a distance h from the interface
in denser medium. [4 Mark]
OR
Figure shows an object AB and a plane mirror MN placed parallel to
object. Indicate the mirror length required to see the image of object by
showing ray diagram if observer’s eye is at E.
[4 Mark]
15. For near normal incidence (small angle of incidence i) of light on a plane surface proove that the
apparent depth (d) and velocity of image perpendicular to interface relative to surface (v´) is given by:
d v
d = and v´
nrelative nrelative
ni (R.. of medium of incidence )
where nrelative = n (R. . of medium of refraction)
r
d = distance of object from the interface = real depth
d’ = distance of image from the interface = apparent depth
v = velocity of object perpendicular to interface relative to surface.
v´ = velocity of image perpendicular to interface relative to surface. [6 Marks]

(a) Derive the lens formula, – for a concave lens, using the necessary ray diagram.
f v u
(b) Two lenses of powers 10 D and –5D are placed in contact.
(i) Calculate the power of the new lens.
(ii) Where should an object be held from the lens, so as to obtain a virtual image of magnification 2?
[6 Marks]
16. Draw a graph to show the variation of the angle of deviation with that of the angle of incidence i for a
monochromatic ray of light passing through a glass prism of refracting angle A. Hence, deduce the reaction,
sin( A m ) / 2
= [6 Marks]
sin A / 2
OR
(a) Draw a ray diagram showing the passage of light through a glass prism. Hence obtain a relation between
the angles of deviation, incidence and emergence and the angle of prism.
(b) Show that no ray can pass through a prism whose refracting angle A is greater than twice the critical
angle for the material of the prism. [6 Marks]
17. Draw a labelled ray diagram of an astronomical telescope. Write mathematical expression for its magnifying
power. How does the magnifying power get affected on increasing the aperture of the objective lens and why?
[6 Marks.]
OR
Draw a labelled ray diagram of an compound microscope. Define its magnifying power. Why should both
the objective and the eyepiece have small focal lengths in microscope? [6 Marks.]
