Performance Analysis of Radio-over-Fiber Communication System With DPSK Modulation Technique and EDFA

1) The document describes a simulation and performance analysis of a radio-over-fiber (RoF) communication system using differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) modulation and erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). 2) The RoF system directly modulates a 1550nm wavelength laser with a 5GHz radio frequency signal using DPSK modulation. EDFA pre-amplifiers are placed to improve the system performance over 80km of single-mode fiber. 3) Simulation results show that with EDFAs, the system achieves a bit error rate below 10-9 and Q-factor above 6, meeting requirements for multimedia communication, whereas without EDFAs the

II. THEORY
2.1 Radio-over-Fiber
Radio over Fiber technology (RoF) is an integration of
wireless and fiber optic networks. RoF technology uses
optical fibre links to send RF signals from a central station to
Remote Antenna Units (RAUs) or Base stations (BS). In RoF,

V. CONCLUSION
From the simulation and analysis, we conclude that using
EDFA as a pre-amplifier on Radio-Over Fiber
Communication is good, with the value of Q-Factor from
4,62113 to 10,7877 and the value of BER from 1,90734x10-6
to 1,96849x10-27, which is still fulfilled the requirement for
multimedia communication on 10-9 for BER and 6 for Q-
Factor. And the data can pass through the optical fiber with
80 km length.
