Performance Analysis of Radio-over-Fiber Communication System With DPSK Modulation Technique and EDFA
II. THEORY
2.1 Radio-over-Fiber
Radio over Fiber technology (RoF) is an integration of
wireless and fiber optic networks. RoF technology uses
optical fibre links to send RF signals from a central station to
Remote Antenna Units (RAUs) or Base stations (BS). In RoF,

the RF signal processing functions are performed at one
shared location (headend), and then signal is sent via optical

fibre, which offers low signal loss (0.3 dB/km for 1550 nm,
EDFA is an optical amplifier (OA) device utilized to boost
and 0.5 dB/km for 1310 nm wavelengths) to distribute the RF
the intensity of optical signals being carried through optical
signals to the BSs. In this way, BSs complexity is reduced, as

applications[4]. EDFAs are used to provide amplification in picture in Fig 3.2. First, parameters will be determined for the

V. CONCLUSION
From the simulation and analysis, we conclude that using
EDFA as a pre-amplifier on Radio-Over Fiber
Communication is good, with the value of Q-Factor from
4,62113 to 10,7877 and the value of BER from 1,90734x10-6
to 1,96849x10-27, which is still fulfilled the requirement for
multimedia communication on 10-9 for BER and 6 for Q-
Factor. And the data can pass through the optical fiber with
80 km length.
