3 Centres of Ossification: Proximal Humerus

This document summarizes ossification ages for various bones. The proximal humerus has 3 centers that ossify between ages 6 months and 5 years and fuse by age 6-7 years. 80% of growth occurs at the proximal physis, which closes between ages 14-18 years. The clavicle is the first bone to ossify, beginning in utero, with secondary centers ossifying from ages 12-25 years. The scapula ossifies from birth with later centers ossifying around puberty and fusing by age 22 years. Most long bones like the femur and tibia ossify from birth with epiphyseal plates fusing in the late teens.
