Assignment Questions Co1-Adcs

This document contains 6 questions about amplitude modulation (AM) radio transmission. The questions ask the learner to calculate carrier power, sideband power and frequencies, modulation index, bandwidth, message signal amplitude and more, given information about the carrier frequency, modulation index/depth, message signal frequency and transmitter power. The final question asks the learner to explain why the carrier frequency is always higher than the message signal frequency in an AM transmission.

ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS CO1-ADCS

1. An AM transmitter radiates 20KW. If the modulation Index is 0.7. Find the carrier Power.
2. The total Power content of an AM signal is1000W. Determine the power being transmitted
at carrier frequency and at each side bands when modulation percentage is 100%.
3. A400W, 1MHz carrier is amplitude-modulated with a sinusoidal signal 0f 2500Hz. The depth
of modulation is 75%. Calculate the sideband frequencies, bandwidth, and power in
sidebands and the total power in modulated wave.
4. An amplitude modulated voltage is given by v=2(1+.4cos2π*3500t)cos2π*106t. Determine
amplitude of upper and lower sidebands, amplitude of message signal. Also calculate BW of
AM wave.
5. A Sinusoidal carrier frequency of 1.2MHz is amplitude modulated by a sinusoidal voltage of
frequency 20KHz resulting in maximum and minimum modulated carrier amplitude of 110V
& 90V respectively. Calculate: frequency of lower and upper side bands, unmodulated
carrier amplitude, Modulation index.
6. Why carrier frequency is always higher than message signal frequency. Explain in detail.
