    Installation Instructions.
    iPod Interface Retrofit
    BMW 7 Series (E 65/E 66)

    These installation instructions are only valid for cars with SA 672 (CD changer).

    Retrofit kit No. 65 41 0 415 655 iPod interface retrofit kit


    65 11 0 403 651 iPod interface retrofit kit (US)

    Installation time
    The installation time is approx. 0.5 hours. This may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment
    in it.
    In general the car must be upgraded to the latest I stage status by flashing before starting the work. Depending on
    the production age of the car and the work already carried out on the car, the programming times will vary, which
    means that we cannot quote a specific time at this point.
    The installation time does not include any time for programming/encoding, as this depends on the age of the car
    and the equipment in it.

    Important information
    These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by
    authorised BMW service companies.
    In any event, the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with
    the appropriate specialist knowledge.
    All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals and work
    instructions, in a rational order, using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety
    regulations.
    If you experience installation or function problems, limit troubleshooting to approx. 0.5 hour for
    mechanical or 1.0 hour for electrical work.
    In order to reduce costs and avoid any additional expense, send a query immediately to the Technical Parts Support
    via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP).
    Specify the following information:
    - Chassis number
    - Part number of the retrofit kit
    - A precise description of the problem
    - Work steps already carried out
    Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are made by ASAP!

    Installation information
    All pictures show LHD cars; proceed accordingly on RHD cars.
    Ensure that the cables and/or lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. The costs thereby
    incurred will not be reimbursed by BMW AG.
    Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.
    If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used.
    After the installation work the retrofit must be programmed / coded using SSS (software service station) via the
    Retrofit path.
    The CD changer must be removed.

    Ordering instructions
    Instrument panel trim on the right K is not included in the retrofit kit and must be ordered separately (see EPC for
    part number and further details).
    iPod interface holder A is not included in the retrofit kit and must be ordered separately (part no. 65 15 0 428 921).

    4. To install the connection cable

    Drill through the glove compartment (1) in the


    middle of the marked area (2) using an 18 mm step
    drill bit.

    To install the interface and connection cable

    Install connection cable B as follows:

    B1 - Push grommet J onto branch B1
    - Route branch B1 through the hole (1)
    - Insert grommet J into the hole (1)
    1 - Pull branch B1 through grommet J until iPod

    connection plug B2 is located just above the
    outside edge of the glove compartment (2)

    Use cable tie G to secure connection cable B to the


    1 rear metal lug (1) to act as strain relief.

    5. To install the interface

    Attach interface C to the iPod interface holder A


    B1 X18180 using pre-mounted nuts (1).
    Connect branch B1 and CD changer plug X18180
    A to interface C.

    Make sure the holding pin (1) is correctly


    1 inserted in the rear guide.
    Push iPod interface holder A into CD changer shaft
    A and screw together with instrument panel trim on
    right K.

    6. Concluding work and coding

    This retrofit system requires coding.


    - Connect the battery
    - Program/encode the retrofit with SSS (software service station) via the Retrofit path
    - Conduct a brief test
    - Conduct a function test
    - Re-assemble the car
