Application of Computer Graphics

Computer graphics are widely used in movie making, video games, scientific modeling, design, and as art. There are four main applications of computer graphics: displaying information, design, user interfaces, and simulation. Computer graphics allow people to control computers through pictures and icons rather than just typing. Different technologies are used to create various computer displays today, including LCD, LED, plasma, and quantum dot displays.

Application of Computer Graphics

Computer graphics are very useful. Today almost every computer can do some graphics, and
people have even come to expect to control their computer through icons and pictures rather than
just by typing.

Computer-generated imagery is used for movie making, video game and computer
programdevelopment, scientific modeling, and design for catalogs and other commercial art.
Some people even make computer graphics as art. We can classify applications of computer
graphics into four main areas:

 Display of information
 Design
 User interfaces
 Simulation

hese are the technologies used to create the various displays in use today.

 Electroluminescent (ELD) display

 Liquid crystal (LCD) display with Light-emitting diode (LED)-backlit LCD display
 Light-emitting diode (LED) display
o OLED display
o AMOLED display
 Plasma (PDP) display
 Quantum dot (QLED) display

Difference Between Raster Scan System and Random Scan System.

Raster Scan System Random Scan System

Resolution It has poor or less Resolution because picture definition It has High Resolution because it stores picture definition as a set
is stored as a intensity value. of line commands.
Electron- Electron Beam is directed from top to bottom and one Electron Beam is directed to only that part of screen where
Beam row at a time on screen, but electron beam is directed to picture is required to be drawn, one line at a time so also
whole screen. called Vector Display.
Cost It is less expensive than Random Scan System. It is Costlier than Raster Scan System.
Refresh Rate Refresh rate is 60 to 80 frame per second. Refresh Rate depends on the number of lines to be displayed
i.e 30 to 60 times per second.
Picture It Stores picture definition in Refresh Buffer also It Stores picture definition as a set of line
Definition called Frame Buffer. commandscalled Refresh Display File.
Line Zig – Zag line is produced because plotted value are Smooth line is produced because directly the line path is followed

Realism in It contains shadow, advance shading and hidden surface It does not contain shadow and hidden surface technique so it can

Image It uses Pixels along scan lines for drawing an image. It is designed for line drawing applications and uses various

n computer graphics, a digital differential analyzer (DDA) is hardware or software used for interpolation of
variables over an interval between start and end point. ... This slope can be expressed in DDA as follows:
In fact any two consecutive points (x,y) lying on this line segment should satisfy the equation.

An arc is a portion of the circumference of a circle. ... A straight line is drawn between the end points of
the arc would be a chord of the circle. If the arc length is exactly half the circle, this called a
semicircular arc.

Types of Polygons

 Regular Polygons. They have equal angles and sides.

 Irregular Polygons. They do not have equal angles and sides. Types of Polygons based on Number of
Sides.
 Triangle. 3 sides.
 Quadrilateral. 4 sides.
 Pentagon. 5 sides.
 Hexagon. 6 sides.
 Heptagon. 7 sides.
 Octagon. 8 sides.

A convex polygon is defined as a polygon with all its interior angles less than 180°. This means that all
the vertices of the polygon will point outwards, away from the interior of the shape. Think of it as a
'bulging' polygon. Note that a triangle (3-gon) is always convex.

Concave Polygon
From Latin: concavus "hollow"

Definition: A polygon that has one or more interior angles greater than 180°
(Result: some vertices point 'inwards', towards the the center.)

Examples of Computer Graphics Devices: CRT, EGA(Enhanced GraphicAdapter)/CGA/VGA/SVGA

monitors, plotters, data matrix, laser printers, Films, flat panel devices, Video Digitizers, scanners, LCD
Panels, keyboard, joystick, mouse, touch screen, track ball, etc. The most commonly used display
device is the CRT Monitor.
