With the advent of the metro construction, mishaps and accidents around Hulimavu
is rising at an unprecedented rate. This situation makes the availability of emergency
services around the area extremely imperative. Emergency services in this scenario
refers to the availability of hospitals and clinics, the safety measures provided by
residential buildings as well as convenience stores and the promptness of the
services of the ambulance, fire department and police department in the area.
Several hostels have complete emergency measures set up, ranging from fire alarms
to first aid boxes. However, there are still a few hostels which are in the process of
establishing the emergency requirements. Marillac Study House, one of the hostels
in Hulimavu is in the process of setting up emergency services in the hostel. Every
room and floor is provided with a fire alarm. There are also two fire exits on every
floor. With respect to fire engines and ambulances, they use the city provided
services which are reliable.
Residential buildings see better provisions for safety and emergency services. One of
these buildings, Windsor Heritage has a well set plan for these services. Aside from
the provisions for fire extinguishers and fire exits, they have also paid attention to
the well functioning of their lifts. If the doors to the lift are not closed properly, it
will not move until somebody closes the door for the safety of the residents.
Hulimavu also has a number of small hospitals and clinics in the case of an
emergency. Hulimavu Nano Hospital has its emergency exits located on the top
floor of the hospital which may be difficult for the patients and staff in the hospital
to access. The stairs are also narrow which makes it harder for people to climb to the
top floor. They are currently in talks with the local police station to improve this
situation but steps are yet to be taken to remodel the hospital’s emergency services.
