1 Introduction
In this chapter:
• How this manual is organized
• Online manual
• Software release information
1.1.1 Numbering
Chapters are referred to as chapters; parts of chapters are referred to as sections.
Chapters, sections, pages, and figures are numbered individually.
Pages are numbered in Arabic numerals, except the title page (no number) and the table of contents,
which has Roman numerals.
Chapters and sections are written in “dot syntax”, e.g. 4.2.3.
Style Description
Links to both other chapters of this manual and to sites on the Internet are printed in
Links
blue.
Courier Names of files and parts of programs are printed in Courier font.
The following icons may be used in this document. Their meaning is explained in the table below:
Failure to observe instructions marked by this icon may result in damage to the equipment!

The system has been preconfigured at the factory with an administrator account and a
password. The login credentials are indicated on the CMS License and Credentials Sheet
included in your delivery.
® ®
Barco controllers run on Windows 10 or Windows 7. After the pre-configuration of the display controller at
the factory, the operating system is sealed. Therefore, when switching on the display controller on your site
for the first time, the Windows Setup is started, prompting you to enter information to adjust the display con-
troller to your site.
Customers can install DirectShow Filter Suite Release 3.2 on Windows® 8.1 machines as
well. In this case, however, multiple graphics cards are not supported in high performance
screen scraping. Further, Aero Mode cannot be disabled.
On ECU-200, Windows Update offers an optional RAID driver update (Intel - Storage –
Intel® Desktop/Workstation/ServerExpress Chipset SATA RAID Controller update (June
2011)) which MUST NOT be installed! This driver update will cause endless reboot.
In general, never update any drivers – if so, only use the versions stored on the CMS Server
(versions are also mentioned in the Release Notes).
• Switch on the controller by means of the power button. If in doubt, consult the user manual of your dis-
play controller. The hardware user manuals can be downloaded from the secured Barco website
www.barco.com/mybarco.
• Setup will prompt you to adjust the language options. The following language packs are preinstalled:
Arabic Japanese
Simplified Chinese Portuguese (Brazil)
Dutch Spanish
English Russian
French Polish
German Turkish
Italian
The location of the Microsoft® Windows® product key is indicated in the hardware user
manual, which can be downloaded from the secured Barco website
www.barco.com/mybarco.
In most cases, the Microsoft® Windows® product key is labeled on the inside of the
controller front cover.

®
In Windows 10, Internet Explorer identifies a web site or share as in the Internet Zone if the IP address or the
fully qualified domain name contains a period. Therefore it is safe to add the IP address of the wall controller
to the Trusted Sites to allow clients in the network to connect to the server using its IP address.
®
The Windows 10 image provided by Barco comes with a key already integrated.
You will NOT have to put in a license key manually!
®
To validate your version of Windows simply have your device connect to the Windows
Activation Server once to automatically validate the activation of your license.
To check the activation status of your license go to:
Start – Settings – Update & Security – Activation
®
Once the configuration of Windows has been completed, you will have to set up the display. To do so, con-
sult the respective software manual. User manuals can be downloaded from the secured Barco website
www.barco.com/mybarco.
P7
4.1.2 Windows® 7
• Follow the instructions on screen to set up the display controller with specific regional settings (country,
time, currency, keyboard layout).
Setup continues.
• ®
Enter the Windows product key.

®
The controller system has been tested with the Windows version installed.
®
Any security updates and Microsoft hotfixes bear a risk of negative impact on the
system's performance. Nevertheless, we recommend to activate automatic updates.
®
In Windows 7, Internet Explorer identifies a web site or share as in the Internet Zone if the IP address or the
fully qualified domain name contains a period. Therefore it is safe to add the IP address of the wall controller
to the Trusted Sites to allow clients in the network to connect to the server using its IP address.
P9
4.2.2 Windows® 7
To activate Windows 7, you will need a product key for the version of Windows that is on your PC. A product
key is a 25-character code that looks like this:
PRODUCT KEY: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Activation is possible via direct connection, a modem, or via the phone,
cf. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15083/windows-how-to-activate
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/activate-windows-7-on-this-computer.
In the event there is no malware protection installed on your unit when having to access
®
the Internet for the license or Windows activation, you can select the MSE desktop
shortcut to download and install MS Security Essentials.
The following information has been extracted "as is" from these pages:
P 10
4.3.2 Windows® 7
Localization is in the responsibility of the customer, and is not part of the delivery volume.
®
You can change the display language of Windows 7 on the Control Panel | Region and Language on the
Keyboards and Languages tab. Some display languages are installed by default, while others require installing
additional language files via Internet connection.
Language packs (in addition to the ones that have been preinstalled as mentioned above) are available in
Windows 7 Ultimate through Windows Update as optional updates. They are not installed automatically.

Mosaic
Support of large desktops and overlapping videos over the boundaries of a head of a graphics card requires
setting up a mosaic.
For configurations with one graphics card, use the NVIDIA Control Panel to set up a mosaic (cf. section
NVIDIA Control Panel).
Setting up a mosaic with multiple graphics cards requires a command line tool (cf. Appendix – Mosaic Mode
via command line tool).
The appropriate tool for your specific landscape is shown in the table below:

Start Menu on devices with split card (left) and without (right)
• In the tree view on the left panel, select Configuration. The right panel shows a representation of the
display.
Initially, the display wall is shown in the arrangement as connected. Each display is visualized as a rectangle.
On top of the top left rectangle, there is a resize panel, as it is called.
• To enter the configuration of your display wall, hover the mouse on the resize panel, and, without click-
ing or holding the mouse button, slowly drag it to the right (and down for further rows) until you see the
desired number and arrangement of orange rectangles.
P 14
Each rectangle symbolizes a screen of your display wall. Rectangles turning red indicate that the ar-
rangement currently selected is not possible with your configuration.
Split cards DCB-100 (one or two) are supported in specific configurations only. Hardware
manuals can be downloaded from the secured Barco website www.barco.com/mybarco.
With two graphics cards and two split cards DCB-100 on the wall controller lines NGP-400/410, you can
connect up to 16 full HD displays:
• Once the configuration of blue rectangles reflects that of your wall, single-click anywhere on the work-
space within the next second.
The modules of the display wall are now arranged in rows and columns as light blue rectangles labeled with
their "position indicator" in accordance with your configuration: Rows are labeled with letters, starting with “A”
P 15
at the top. Columns are labeled with figures, starting with “1” on the left (each when looking at the front of the
display wall).
P 16
You can upgrade existing installations with one split card DCB-100 and one graphics card
without changing the cabling scheme except for configurations which were not
supported in the past on single DCB systems.
These will now be supported, e.g. 2x4 configuration for screen resolutions higher than
SXGA (SXGA+, UXGA, and Full HD), but require a change in cabling!
At this point of the configuration procedure, select the desired refresh rate.
• Open the Refresh rate drop-down list. Choose from the following options:
The graphics card output will have a refresh rate of 50 Hz, the DCB-100 output will
PAL
have a refresh rate of 50 Hz.
The graphics card output will have a refresh rate of 25 Hz, the DCB-100 output will
PAL/2
have a refresh rate of 50 Hz.
The graphics card output will have a refresh rate of 59.94 Hz, the DCB-100 output will
NTSC
have a refresh rate of 59.94 Hz.
The graphics card output will have a refresh rate of 29.97 Hz, the DCB-100 output will
NTSC/2
have a refresh rate of 59.94 Hz.
The graphics card output will have the DDC refresh rate, and the DDC timing of the
Automatic
connected displays will be used.
To display videos, select PAL/2, NTSC/2. To display desktop applications, select Automatic.
rd
For 3 party displays which may not necessarily be able to handle PAL or NTSC refresh rates,
select Automatic.
P 17
5.1.2 Locking
When using a DCB-100 split card, you can lock the graphics output to the output of the graphics card.
Bear in mind that the Locking feature will lock only the configured outputs of one split card
(up to four) to the same frequency. The lock icon in the Display Control Center GUI may
give you the impression that all outputs in the entire wall are set to the same frequency.
However, this is not the case.
Input locking cannot be set unless the item Extend these displays has been selected on the
®
drop-down list Multiple displays on the Windows Control Panel in Control Panel | All
Control Panel Items | Display | Adjust Resolution., cf. Windows® Control Panel.
P 18
If the message is not acknowledged within 30 seconds, locking will be reset to Off.
Displays which do not support any locking will go black or yellow.
Choosing an incorrect locking method can cause your display to turn black or result in
bobbing videos!
The above configuration changes are switched live and without the need for a system
restart.
• Start the Display Control Center. Refer to the section Display Control Center.
P 19
• Select Yes.
After the restart, configure the DCB-100 to suit your new requirements.
P 20
Windows 7 Windows 10
• In the tree view on the left pane Select a Task…, select Display | Set up multiple displays
P 21
With configurations consisting of more than one graphics card, configure Mosaic Mode
using the command line tool described in the Appendix (cf. section Appendix – Mosaic
Mode via command line tool.)
Mosaic Mode is set up and enabled automatically in configurations with one DCB-100
(DCB-100 is only supported in specific configurations).
Mosaic Mode, however, is not enabled automatically on a newly installed system until it
has been configured once manually. This is due to a flaw in the NVIDIA tool which we
unfortunately cannot influence.
With NVIDIA Quadro M4000, NVIDIA Quadro 2000D, NVIDIA Quadro K2000D, and NVIDIA
Quadro K2000 graphics cards, Mosaic Mode via the NVIDIA Control Panel is supported for
one graphics card only, or a bundle of one graphics card and one DCB-100, resp.
(supported in specific configurations only). To be on the safe side, we recommend using
the Mosaic Mode command line tool (cf. section Appendix – Mosaic Mode via command
line tool.)
The use of Mosaic mode with more than one graphics card NVIDIA Quadro M4000,
however, is not recommended!
Mosaic Mode allows displaying a video smoothly over the boundaries of a GPU.
Without Mosaic Mode, there is no support of the large desktop (using multiple GPUs) and of overlapping vid-
eos over GPU boundaries.
Mosaic Mode requires two (or more) displays. All displays connected must be included in
the mosaic.
If Mosaic Mode has not been enabled automatically, set up Mosaic Mode manually as follows.
• Right click on the desktop. The context menu is displayed.
• From the context menu, select NVIDIA Control Panel.
P 22
• In the tree view on the left pane Select a Task…, select Workstation | Set Up Mosaic.
• In the workspace, select Create new configuration. This link is inactive if Mosaic Mode has already been
set up.
P 23
• On the next page displayed, select the button Finish. Setting up Mosaic is completed.
• In the tree view on the left pane Select a Task…, select Workstation | Set Up Mosaic.
• To disable Mosaic, select the button Disable.
• To modify Mosaic, select the button Modify.
P 24
P 25
Verify the refresh rate and the resolution (sometimes the settings are changed…).
To remove jitter and to have smooth videos, the refresh rate must match the source.
P 26
• Within 30 seconds, click the button Yes to acknowledge the Apply Changes message to keep the chang-
es in your desktop configuration. Mosaic is now enabled.
P 27
• On the dialog Adjust overlap and bezel correction, enter the desired overlap and bezel correction val-
ues, if need be.
• Click the button Finish.
P 28
The heads of the graphics card(s) must be connected to (either vertically or horizontally)
adjacent monitors.
Alternatively:
• Right-click anywhere on the desktop.
• From the context menu, select Display settings.
P 29
P 30
• To access the Wall Configuration Properties tab (only available on ECU machines), highlight the sec-
ondary monitor by clicking once inside the box, and then selecting Display adapter properties.
P 31
Always close all video window applications before making operations that modify the
settings of any of the attached displays. Failure to do so may cause the machine to lock up
and require a reboot.
• Edit the settings on the Wall Configuration tab to meet your requirements.
Refresh Rate: Use the drop down arrow to select a refresh rate for the desktop. Only the re-
fresh rates available at the selected resolution and color depth are displayed.
The maximum settings are restricted to the capabilities of the screens connected
to the system.
Source of Mode: When the Wall Configuration tab is selected, the display driver reads the EDID
information from each monitor and reads the Registry to find detailed display
timing information.
The Source of Mode group box shows which mode sources are available for the
selected resolution and color depth.
Source of Mode has four options.
Default: Monitor timing information from the display driver’s inter-
nal tables.
Custom: Monitor timing information from the Registry.
Monitor (Master): Monitor timing information from the monitor attached to
output 1 of the Master ECU-4DPOUT is used for all out-
puts.
Monitor (Each): The monitor timing information from each monitor is used
for the output connected to that monitor.
No. Screens: Change the number of screens the display driver uses. We recommend installing
the driver (using install.exe) for all ECU-4DPOUT boards in your system.
Screen Arrangement: Use the drop-down menu to select the type of screen arrangement you require.
The illustration in the Monitor Configuration group box will reflect your choice.
Force DVI Output: When the display driver initializes, it reads the EDIDs of the attached screens to
determine if the DVI (digital) or analog outputs should be used. If no monitor
EDID is read, this control is used to decide which output to enable.
If the checkbox is in an indeterminate state, it signifies that the enabled outputs
are not as requested by the user. This will occur if a mixture of analog and digital
screens is used, or if the type of monitor used is different to the Force DVI state.
When the check box status is changed, the Apply button will become active.
Select Apply to force the required output.
Since the DVI (digital) output supports a pixel dot-clock frequency lower than the
analog output, the resolution dialog is updated when the check box is changed
to reflect the resolutions supported by the active output.
Prune Modes: Enabling this check box limits the resolutions displayed in the resolution box to
those that are supported by all of the screens attached to the ECU-4DPOUT
card’s active outputs. This information is read from the monitor EDIDs when the
Wall Configuration tab is opened. If the status of this checkbox is changed, the
resolution control will be updated.
P 32
If you have one graphics card only, use the NVIDIA Control Panel to set up the mosaic, cf. Enable Mosaic
Mode.
Configurations with more than one graphics card (no DCB-100 split card) require the NVIDIA command line
tool to set up a mosaic; cf. section Appendix – Mosaic Mode via command line tool.
5.3.2 Windows® 7
®
Use the screen resolution tool on the Windows 7 Control Panel to set up your display. This tool allows for
detection and arrangement of the connected monitors as well as extension of the display to all monitors.
The heads of the graphics card(s) must be connected to (either vertically or horizontally)
adjacent monitors.
• Navigate to Control Panel | All Control Panel Items | Display | Screen Resolution
Alternatively:
• Right-click anywhere on the desktop.
• From the context menu, select Screen resolution.
P 33
• To access the Wall Configuration Properties tab (only available on ECU machines), highlight the sec-
ondary monitor by clicking once inside the box, and then selecting Advanced settings (see above).
P 34
Default: Monitor timing information from the display driver’s in-
ternal tables.
Custom: Monitor timing information from the Registry.
Monitor (Master): Monitor timing information from the monitor attached to
output 1 of the Master ECU-4DPOUT is used for all outputs.
Monitor (Each): The monitor timing information from each monitor is used
for the output connected to that monitor.
No. Screens: Change the number of screens the display driver uses. We recommend installing
the driver (using install.exe) for all ECU-4DPOUT boards in your system.
P 35
P 36
Configuration of the input cards and software decoders is done by means of BarcoConfig, a component of
the DirectShow Filter Suite package. Note that the component Display Control Center (cf. Display Control
Center) as shown in the screenshot below is only available in specific configurations equipped with split
card(s) DCB-100.
The number and type of video cards and DVI input cards varies with the respective controller
line.
• ®
Acknowledge possible Windows security messages, if any:
P 37
The picture above shows the entries for an exemplary wall controller equipped with one 8-channel video
input card type DGC144, one DVI input card type DGC133, one DVI input card type DGC153, and one Dis-
®
playPort input card type DGC179.
Additionally, your controller may feature one or several DVI input cards DGC161.
• Expand the nodes of the various items in the tree view to see and/or select the respective channels.
P 38
• In the tree view on the left of the dialog window, select the entry General.
• Activate the button Change Settings…
In the dialog box displayed, modify the settings for the anti-jitter filter, NSL timing support, high-performance
mode, and deinterlacing mode, if desired.
• The Anti-jitter filter is enabled by default, and works with MPEG decoders. Disable the anti-jitter filter to
decrease latency (enables five frames jitter buffer).
• NSL timing support is disabled by default. Enable this setting if you have
• - Barco NSL-4601 displays, or
• - display timings of 3840x1080 at a frame rate of 25 Hz
• - OL-WXGA projectors (projector resolution 1368x768) with wall configurations
• 3x2@30Hz
• 3x1@25Hz, 30Hz, 60Hz
• 5x1@25Hz, 30Hz
• Enable High performance mode with high quality hardware (Barco controller). In this case, the Barco
®
renderer is used. Disabling this mode is recommended for "standard" PCs (the Microsoft renderer will be
used).
• Deinterlacing mode offers the following settings from its drop-down list:
• median: Default setting
• median (double frame): Doubles the frame rate and needs more resources. Use this setting when the
refresh rate of the split card DCB-100 is set to PAL, NTSC, or Automatic.
• none: Use this setting if you need resources. You will, however, see interlaced sources the way they
come in.
• Click Save to store the settings.
The button Edit Sources… is disabled at this point of the configuration.
P 39
• In the tree view on the left of the dialog window, select the entry Video input (type VCR7008).
• Activate the button Change Settings…
• Select the board mode (PAL or NTSC) from the drop-down list. The default board mode is PAL.
The video input card does not support the mixing of NTSC and PAL sources.
All video sources must be of the same video standard; default board mode is PAL.
When changing the setting, a reboot of the board is made.
P 40
Since you can switch boards in the drop-down list Board, you may encounter that the name of
the board you are currently editing may not be correctly represented in the title bar. There is,
however, no need for concern – the dialog window and the settings refer to the correct board.
Please bear in mind that the channel count in the user interface starts with zero whereas the
numbering of the sixteen cables starts with one. The channel number in the software is the
cable number minus 1.
• Make sure the board you wish to edit is selected on the drop-down list Board. Otherwise, select the de-
sired board from this drop-down list.
• On the drop-down list Signal, assign a signal name (e.g. AVC_6_0_0_0) to the respective input.
P 41
P 42
Each input of the DVI input card is treated as a "card" and has a top level entry in the Unit Info.

12 Troubleshooting
12.1 Don’t install optional RAID driver update from Win Update on ECU-200
®
On ECU-200, Windows Update offers an optional RAID driver update (Intel - Storage – Intel Desktop/Work-
station/ServerExpress Chipset SATA RAID Controller update (June 2011)) which MUST NOT be installed! This
driver update causes an endless reboot.
12.3 Left and right part of the image on the display wall are mixed up
• Check the cabling.
• Check the order of the monitors on the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Via NVIDIA Control Panel, Mosaic mode is only supported for one graphcis card; multiple
graphics card require using the command line tool.
• Check the timing of the graphics card: The timing of the graphics card must match the timing of the
source to remove jitter.
P 89
P 90
• Connect to the CMS Server using the IP address (find the IP address by clicking the Start button. Enter
cmd. The command prompt opens. Enter the command ipconfig /all. Take down the IP address.
• Check if JBOSS is up and running. If required, start JBOSS manually. After 5 minutes approx., the service
will be available.
• Disable one of the LAN interfaces and retry.
12.15 Power-on fails or no boot message is visible when using Barco projec-
tion modules based on LED with DVI copper cables
This issue will only occur if the display wall has been controlled once using optical (fiber) cables, and is now
operating on DVI copper cables.
• If so, you will have to check the Optical Cable Power setting on the Inputs tab, making sure the check-
box Enable is deactivated.
This check requires Expert access rights when logging in the web interface of the projection
modules.
To eliminate the error, please repeat the following steps for every projection module:
• Turn off the display controller.
• Connect to projection module via web interface.
• Login as Expert.
• Check the Optical Cable Power setting on the Inputs tab.
• Disable this feature in case you are using DVI copper cables.
• Repeat these steps for all displays and power on the display controller again.
P 91
DCB-100 split cards are only supported in specific configurations. Please bear in mind for
any troubleshooting information with regard to these cards below.
12.20 Display Control Center does not switch from cloning mode to split
mode
If only locking is enabled, the Display Control Center may not switch from cloning mode to split mode. This
issue, however, only appears in unrealistic scenarios.
P 92
12.22 Display changed from DCB-100 base board to mezzanine board after
reboot
When initially installing, or setting up a new resolution by implementing a new monitor or a new wall scenario
in the Display Control Center, the display has changed from the base board to the mezzanine board after
reboot. This is no error scenario but the normal behavior of the NVIDIA driver. Therefore, make sure to switch
back the displays on the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Proceed as follows:
• Right click on the desktop. The context menu is displayed.
P 93
• In the tree view on the left pane Select a Task…, navigate to Display | Set up multiple displays
P 94
Make sure the GPUs of the graphics cards are flashed with NVIDIA's BAR1 VBIOS.
Mosaic allows for hardware acceleration across multiple displays by treating them as one single display. This
is the precondition for freely movable videos on multiple displays.
For applications, it is sufficient to have an extended desktop.
The NVIDIA Control Panel allows setting up mosaic for one graphics card (2 GPUs).
If there are two or more graphics cards in the system, set up Mosaic Mode using the command line tool
(CLT) configureMosaic.exe.
When setting up Mosaic Mode, it is mandatory that only those graphics cards be
connected whose displays are to be set up in Mosaic. If required, temporarily disconnect
projection modules until the mosaic has been setup.
13.1 Cabling
It is mandatory that the heads/GPUs of one graphics card be connected to adjacent sections of the display.
In the picture below, "1. Graphics card" or "2. Graphics card", respectively, only serve to
distinguish the graphics cards. For some reason, it is unpredictable which graphics card
the system will assign to be the first one. This information is retrieved in the step "initiate
Mosaic mode".
GPU 0 stands for the top connector, GPU 1 stands for the bottom connector of the
graphics card.
The drawings are examples of correct/incorrect cable connections and merely serve to
visualize connecting adjacent displays to the same graphics card.

It is mandatory that all projection modules be connected via the same adapter from
DisplayPort to DVI. DO NOT USE any adapter to single link DVI concurrently with adapters
to dual link DVI!
(In case you cannot extend the desktop, reboot and try again.)
• Navigate to the drop-down list Multiple displays.
• For a large desktop, select Extend desktop to this display.
• Tick the checkbox Make this my main display.
P 96
13.2.2 Windows® 7
• Right click on the desktop.

13.4 Nomenclature
The "labels of the display" as used in the pictures for correct cabling (cf. above) are converted into tuples. The
first index refers to the graphics card; the second index refers to the head/GPU.
st
Both heads/GPUs AND the graphics cards are counted zero-based! Consequently, the 1
nd
graphics card is represented by 0, the 2 graphcis card by 1, and so on.
In this step, the display of every graphics card is set up as a 1x1 mosaic.
P 98
The displays connected to one graphics card are treated as a 1x1 mosaic (although it is a
1x2 or a 2x1 arrangement of displays!).
• For every graphics card, execute the command configureMosaic.exe twice (in administration mode), i.e.
once for the upper head/GPU and then again for the bottom head/GPU.
When the command has been executed, only one of the displays wil be active. Locate this
display in your drawing. Take down the values of the "out parameters" of the command
just given in the respective cell in your drawing.
If you have two graphics cards, there are four heads/GPUs, and you will need to run the following com-
mands:
Command Explanation

as mentioned above, it is a 1x1 mosaic.
out=0,0:

The information within the cells actually reflects the order the system has assigned to the graphics card.
P 99
The "out parameters" of all projection modules are concatenated according to the pattern
shown in the drawing below.
0,0 1,0
0,1 1,1
Mosaic Mode may be corrupted when displays are disconnected or when displays fail.
Restoring Mosaic Mode may require disconnecting all but one graphics card, setting up
mosaic for this single graphics card, reconnecting the other displays, and setting up
mosaic mode from scratch.
