1.1 How this manual is organized


This section explains the structure of the present manual as well as the typographic styles and icons used
therein.

1.1.1 Numbering
Chapters are referred to as chapters; parts of chapters are referred to as sections.
Chapters, sections, pages, and figures are numbered individually.
 Pages are numbered in Arabic numerals, except the title page (no number) and the table of contents,
which has Roman numerals.
 Chapters and sections are written in “dot syntax”, e.g. 4.2.3.

2 What is DirectShow Filter Suite?


DirectShow Filter Suite (DSFS) is a Barco software package for rendering graphics and video content on mid-
dle sized video walls.
Video and RGB sources are connected to a set of input cards plugged into the controller. In addition to local
baseband signals also streaming videos of various types are rendered using software decoders.
The DirectShow Filter Suite package contains the Display Control Center application and BarcoConfig ap-
plication.

Display Control Center


This component needs to be installed if your controller is equipped with one or two DCB-100 split cards (only
supported in specific configurations). DCB-100 split card bundles split the output of up to two heads of a
graphics card to up to 8 projection modules/monitors, cf. Display Control Center.

BarcoConfig
This component allows configuring local and streaming inputs; cf. Configuring input cards and software
decoders.

3 Connecting peripherals and network


Before switching on the video wall controller:
• Connect a keyboard and mouse,
• Connect a VGA control screen (recommended), or connect the projection modules of your display wall
to the graphics card(s) output.
• Plug in the network cable and connect the controller to the LAN.
You can connect the two LAN interfaces to one LAN only or to different LANs ("business LAN", "video
LAN"). The "video LAN" needs to be configured using BarcoConfig, cf. Configuring input cards and
software decoders.
Some controller lines support redundant network connections, i.e. teaming.
For a detailed description of these steps, consult the wall controller user manual. The hardware user manuals
are available for download at the secured Barco website www.barco.com/mybarco.

4 Initial system start on delivery of display controller


In this chapter:

The system has been preconfigured at the factory with an administrator account and a
password. The login credentials are indicated on the CMS License and Credentials Sheet
included in your delivery.

® ®
Barco controllers run on Windows 10 or Windows 7. After the pre-configuration of the display controller at
the factory, the operating system is sealed. Therefore, when switching on the display controller on your site
for the first time, the Windows Setup is started, prompting you to enter information to adjust the display con-
troller to your site.

Customers can install DirectShow Filter Suite Release 3.2 on Windows® 8.1 machines as
well. In this case, however, multiple graphics cards are not supported in high performance
screen scraping. Further, Aero Mode cannot be disabled.

On ECU-200, Windows Update offers an optional RAID driver update (Intel - Storage –
Intel® Desktop/Workstation/ServerExpress Chipset SATA RAID Controller update (June
2011)) which MUST NOT be installed! This driver update will cause endless reboot.
In general, never update any drivers – if so, only use the versions stored on the CMS Server
(versions are also mentioned in the Release Notes).

• Switch on the controller by means of the power button. If in doubt, consult the user manual of your dis-
play controller. The hardware user manuals can be downloaded from the secured Barco website
www.barco.com/mybarco.
• Setup will prompt you to adjust the language options. The following language packs are preinstalled:

 Arabic  Japanese
 Simplified Chinese  Portuguese (Brazil)
 Dutch  Spanish
 English  Russian
 French  Polish
 German  Turkish
 Italian

The location of the Microsoft® Windows® product key is indicated in the hardware user
manual, which can be downloaded from the secured Barco website
www.barco.com/mybarco.
In most cases, the Microsoft® Windows® product key is labeled on the inside of the
controller front cover.

• Read and accept the license agreement.

When the configuration of Windows has been completed, you will have to set up the display.

4.1 Setting up Windows®


4.1.1 Windows® 10

Follow the instructions on screen to set up Windows with specific regional settings (language, time, cur-
rency, keyboard layout).
The following language packs are preinstalled:
 Arabic
 simplified Chinese
 Dutch
 English
 French
 German
 Italian
 Japanese
 Portuguese (Brazil)
 Polish
 Russian
 Spanish
 Turkish

• Start the installation and follow the instructions on screen.

Hostname (computer name) limitations:


 Hostname labels may contain only the ASCII letters 'a' through 'z' (case-insensitive), the
digits '0' through '9', and the hyphen (-).
 Hostname labels cannot begin or end with a hyphen.
 No other symbols, punctuation characters, underscores or blank spaces are permitted.
 Avoid using only numerical characters or names consisting entirely of hexadecimal
digits ('0' through '9' plus the letters 'A' through 'F').
 Do not use names longer than 15 characters.
 Do not start your computer name with a numerical character.

To use any version of TransForm N SD:


Barco recommends to update Windows to at least the patch level that was tested with the
release that you wish to install.
Please refer to the official release notes for precise version and patch level details
(for example: Windows 10 IoT Enterprise CBB 1803, 64 Bit w/ security patches of Aug
2018).
With outdated Windows patch levels the performance of TransForm N SD cannot be
guaranteed.

In Windows 10, Internet Explorer identifies a web site or share as in the Internet Zone if the IP address or the
fully qualified domain name contains a period. Therefore it is safe to add the IP address of the wall controller
to the Trusted Sites to allow clients in the network to connect to the server using its IP address.

The Windows 10 image provided by Barco comes with a key already integrated.
You will NOT have to put in a license key manually!
®
To validate your version of Windows simply have your device connect to the Windows
Activation Server once to automatically validate the activation of your license.
To check the activation status of your license go to:
Start – Settings – Update & Security – Activation

Once the configuration of Windows has been completed, you will have to set up the display. To do so, con-

Windows Aero is a set of themes to change the appearance.


• Select Control Panel | Appearance and Personalization | Change the theme
• ®
Make sure no Aero Theme is applied on Barco controllers running on Windows 7 (Aero Themes have
negative effects on performance and stability).

Failure to observe these instructions may entail performance problems.

The controller system has been tested with the Windows version installed.

Any security updates and Microsoft hotfixes bear a risk of negative impact on the
system's performance. Nevertheless, we recommend to activate automatic updates.

4.2 Activating Windows®


4.2.1 Windows® 10

The Windows 10 image provided by Barco comes with a key already integrated.
You will NOT have to put in a license key manually!

To validate your version of Windows simply have your device connect to the Windows
Activation Server once to automatically validate the activation of your license.
To check the activation status of your license go to:
Start – Settings – Update & Security – Activation

4.2.2 Windows® 7
To activate Windows 7, you will need a product key for the version of Windows that is on your PC. A product
key is a 25-character code that looks like this:

Activation is possible via direct connection, a modem, or via the phone,

In the event there is no malware protection installed on your unit when having to access

the Internet for the license or Windows activation, you can select the MSE desktop
shortcut to download and install MS Security Essentials.

4.3 Windows® localization


4.3.1 Windows® 10
Localization is in the responsibility of the customer, and is not part of the delivery volume.
®
You can change the display language of Windows 10 in Settings | Time and Language | Region & Lan-
guage. Some display languages are installed by default, while others require installing additional language files
via Internet connection.
Languages are downloaded and installed automatically when the respective language is selected via Add a
language.

4.3.2 Windows® 7
Localization is in the responsibility of the customer, and is not part of the delivery volume.
®
You can change the display language of Windows 7 on the Control Panel | Region and Language on the
Keyboards and Languages tab. Some display languages are installed by default, while others require installing
additional language files via Internet connection.
Language packs (in addition to the ones that have been preinstalled as mentioned above) are available in
Windows 7 Ultimate through Windows Update as optional updates. They are not installed automatically.

5 Setting up the display


In this chapter:

The setup of the display varies with your configuration.

Systems with split card (supported in specific configuration only)


With configurations featuring one or two split cards DCB-100 (if in doubt, refer to the hardware user manual
which can be downloaded from the secured Barco website www.barco.com/mybarco), it is mandatory to
first use the Display Control Center, cf. section Display Control Center.
Subsequently, with one DCB-100 split card, configure the display using the NVIDIA Control Panel, cf. NVIDIA
®
Control Panel; with two DCB-100 split cards, proceed to the screen resolution tool on the Windows
Control Panel (Control Panel | All Control Panel Items | Display | Screen Resolution), cf. section Windows®
Control Panel.

Systems without split card


®
If your system has no split card DCB-100, use the screen resolution tool on the Windows Control Panel
(Control Panel | All Control Panel Items | Display| Screen Resolution). This tool allows for detection and ar-
rangement of the connected monitors as well as extension of the display to all monitors.

Mosaic
Support of large desktops and overlapping videos over the boundaries of a head of a graphics card requires
setting up a mosaic.
For configurations with one graphics card, use the NVIDIA Control Panel to set up a mosaic (cf. section
NVIDIA Control Panel).
Setting up a mosaic with multiple graphics cards requires a command line tool (cf. Appendix – Mosaic Mode
via command line tool).
The appropriate tool for your specific landscape is shown in the table below:

5.1 Display Control Center


For all configurations featuring one or two DCB-100 (supported in specific configurations only), first configure
the split card(s) in the Display Control Center. Note that this component is available only if your system is
equipped with at least one DCB-100.
 With one split card, subsequently proceed to the NVIDIA Control Panel, cf. NVIDIA Control Panel.

 With two split cards, subsequently proceed to the screen resolution tool on the Windows Control Panel
(Control Panel | All Control Panel Items | Display | Screen Resolution), cf. Windows® Control Panel.
• To launch Display Control Center, navigate to Start | Programs | Barco | Display Control Center, or

type the program name in the search field (Windows 10).

The Display Control Center screen comes up.

• In the tree view on the left panel, select Configuration. The right panel shows a representation of the
display.
Initially, the display wall is shown in the arrangement as connected. Each display is visualized as a rectangle.
On top of the top left rectangle, there is a resize panel, as it is called.
• To enter the configuration of your display wall, hover the mouse on the resize panel, and, without click-
ing or holding the mouse button, slowly drag it to the right (and down for further rows) until you see the
desired number and arrangement of orange rectangles.

Each rectangle symbolizes a screen of your display wall. Rectangles turning red indicate that the ar-
rangement currently selected is not possible with your configuration.

Split cards DCB-100 (one or two) are supported in specific configurations only. Hardware
manuals can be downloaded from the secured Barco website www.barco.com/mybarco.

With two graphics cards and two split cards DCB-100 on the wall controller lines NGP-400/410, you can
connect up to 16 full HD displays:

You can upgrade existing installations with one split card DCB-100 and one graphics card
without changing the cabling scheme except for configurations which were not
supported in the past on single DCB systems.
These will now be supported, e.g. 2x4 configuration for screen resolutions higher than
SXGA (SXGA+, UXGA, and Full HD), but require a change in cabling!

5.1.1 Refresh rate

Display Control Center – Refresh rate

At this point of the configuration procedure, select the desired refresh rate.
• Open the Refresh rate drop-down list. Choose from the following options:

The graphics card output will have a refresh rate of 50 Hz, the DCB-100 output will
PAL
have a refresh rate of 50 Hz.
The graphics card output will have a refresh rate of 25 Hz, the DCB-100 output will
PAL/2
have a refresh rate of 50 Hz.
The graphics card output will have a refresh rate of 59.94 Hz, the DCB-100 output will
NTSC
have a refresh rate of 59.94 Hz.
The graphics card output will have a refresh rate of 29.97 Hz, the DCB-100 output will
NTSC/2
have a refresh rate of 59.94 Hz.
The graphics card output will have the DDC refresh rate, and the DDC timing of the
Automatic
connected displays will be used.

To display videos, select PAL/2, NTSC/2. To display desktop applications, select Automatic.

5.1.2 Locking
When using a DCB-100 split card, you can lock the graphics output to the output of the graphics card.

Enable locking to achieve the best possible video quality.


Note that locking will not be supported by third-party monitors.

Bear in mind that the Locking feature will lock only the configured outputs of one split card
(up to four) to the same frequency. The lock icon in the Display Control Center GUI may
give you the impression that all outputs in the entire wall are set to the same frequency.
However, this is not the case.

Input locking cannot be set unless the item Extend these displays has been selected on the
®
drop-down list Multiple displays on the Windows Control Panel in Control Panel | All
Control Panel Items | Display | Adjust Resolution., cf. Windows® Control Panel.

Display Control Center – Locking

The drop-down list Locking offers the following options:


Off
The graphics data provided by the DCB-100 is not locked and a frame rate conversion is made, i.e. the
frame rate provided by the graphics card may differ from the frame rate generated by the DCB-100. This is
the default behavior.
Pixel Clock Variation
Locking is made by means of Pixel Clock Variation. Use this locking method for the LCD displays LC-42,
LC-47, LDX-46, LDX-55, NSL-4601, NSL-5521, NSL-4621, EVD-4621, and MVD-5521.
Line Adding
Locking is achieved by adding lines in the back porch of the output timing. Use this locking method when
using projection modules of the series OV-D1, OV-D2, OVL, OL, and MVL.

When locking is selected, the preferred timing is PAL/2 or NTSC/2, respectively.

• Make your selection and activate the button Apply.


On selecting Apply, a confirmation window is displayed.

DCC – Configuring Locking – Confirm video settings

If the message is not acknowledged within 30 seconds, locking will be reset to Off.
Displays which do not support any locking will go black or yellow.

Choosing an incorrect locking method can cause your display to turn black or result in
bobbing videos!

The above configuration changes are switched live and without the need for a system
restart.

5.1.3 Resetting DCB-100 with Display Control Center

• Start the Display Control Center. Refer to the section Display Control Center.

When the reset is completed, a window is displayed asking you to restart the controller.

5.1.4 Force reboot


The configuration changes in Display Control Center are switched live without the need to reboot. If, for
some reason, you should actually be required to reboot, proceed as follows:
• Navigate to the menu Tools | Options and select the menu item Force Reboot.

5.2 NVIDIA Control Panel


The NVIDIA Control Panel offers a variety of graphics card settings. This section explains how to set up mul-
tiple displays.
To launch the NVIDIA Control Panel, proceed as follows:
• Right click on the desktop. The context menu is displayed.
• From the context menu, select NVIDIA Control Panel.

• In the tree view on the left pane Select a Task…, select Display | Set up multiple displays

For each graphics card head connected, one monitor is displayed.


With one DCB-100, the baseboard is shown as "SplitCard (1 of 2)"; the mezzanine board as "SplitCard (2 of
2)".
With two split cards DCB-100, the list will comprise four items. The first baseboard is shown as "SplitCard (1
of 4)"; the first mezzanine board as "SplitCard (2 of 4)", while the second baseboard will be "SplitCard (3 of
4)" and the second mezzanine board will be "SplitCard (4 of 4)"

• Tick the desired monitors to set up your desktop.


If required, use the mouse and switch the position of the monitors. The projection modules/monitors con-
nected to the baseboard are the main monitor and must be positioned on the left.
• With configurations consisting of one graphics card only, now proceed to configure the Mosaic Mode.

With configurations consisting of more than one graphics card, configure Mosaic Mode
using the command line tool described in the Appendix (cf. section Appendix – Mosaic
Mode via command line tool.)

5.2.1 Enable Mosaic Mode

Mosaic Mode is set up and enabled automatically in configurations with one DCB-100
(DCB-100 is only supported in specific configurations).
Mosaic Mode, however, is not enabled automatically on a newly installed system until it
has been configured once manually. This is due to a flaw in the NVIDIA tool which we
unfortunately cannot influence.

With NVIDIA Quadro M4000, NVIDIA Quadro 2000D, NVIDIA Quadro K2000D, and NVIDIA
Quadro K2000 graphics cards, Mosaic Mode via the NVIDIA Control Panel is supported for
one graphics card only, or a bundle of one graphics card and one DCB-100, resp.
(supported in specific configurations only). To be on the safe side, we recommend using
the Mosaic Mode command line tool (cf. section Appendix – Mosaic Mode via command
line tool.)
The use of Mosaic mode with more than one graphics card NVIDIA Quadro M4000,
however, is not recommended!

Mosaic Mode allows displaying a video smoothly over the boundaries of a GPU.
Without Mosaic Mode, there is no support of the large desktop (using multiple GPUs) and of overlapping vid-
eos over GPU boundaries.

Mosaic Mode requires two (or more) displays. All displays connected must be included in
the mosaic.

If Mosaic Mode has not been enabled automatically, set up Mosaic Mode manually as follows.
• Right click on the desktop. The context menu is displayed.
• From the context menu, select NVIDIA Control Panel.

• In the tree view on the left pane Select a Task…, select Workstation | Set Up Mosaic.
• In the workspace, select Create new configuration. This link is inactive if Mosaic Mode has already been
set up.

5.2.1.1 Setting up Mosaic Mode using recommended connections


• On the first page Select topology, activate the checkbox  I am using recommended connections for
the selected topology. The button Enable Mosaic is enabled.
• Select the button Enable Mosaic.
• Click the button Next.

5.2.1.2 Modifying or disabling Mosaic


To modify Mosaic or to set up Mosaic from scratch without using recommended connections, proceed as
follows:
• Right click on the desktop. The context menu is displayed.
• From the context menu, select NVIDIA Control Panel.

• In the tree view on the left pane Select a Task…, select Workstation | Set Up Mosaic.
• To disable Mosaic, select the button Disable.
• To modify Mosaic, select the button Modify.

Verify the refresh rate and the resolution (sometimes the settings are changed…).
To remove jitter and to have smooth videos, the refresh rate must match the source.

Drag'n'Drop.
• On completion, select the button Next.

• Right-click anywhere on the desktop.
• From the context menu, select Display settings.

Make sure all monitors are listed!


• Select the button Detect to trigger an update of the monitors detected in case a monitor is missing.
• Select the button Identify to have the current display numbering inserted on your screens.

Color Palette: Select the number of colors to use.

Refresh Rate: Use the drop down arrow to select a refresh rate for the desktop. Only the re-
fresh rates available at the selected resolution and color depth are displayed.
The maximum settings are restricted to the capabilities of the screens connected
to the system.

Source of Mode: When the Wall Configuration tab is selected, the display driver reads the EDID
information from each monitor and reads the Registry to find detailed display
timing information.
The Source of Mode group box shows which mode sources are available for the
selected resolution and color depth.
Source of Mode has four options.
 Default: Monitor timing information from the display driver’s inter-
nal tables.
 Custom: Monitor timing information from the Registry.
 Monitor (Master): Monitor timing information from the monitor attached to
output 1 of the Master ECU-4DPOUT is used for all out-
puts.
 Monitor (Each): The monitor timing information from each monitor is used
for the output connected to that monitor.

No. Screens: Change the number of screens the display driver uses. We recommend installing
the driver (using install.exe) for all ECU-4DPOUT boards in your system.

Screen Arrangement: Use the drop-down menu to select the type of screen arrangement you require.
The illustration in the Monitor Configuration group box will reflect your choice.

 Force DVI Output: When the display driver initializes, it reads the EDIDs of the attached screens to
determine if the DVI (digital) or analog outputs should be used. If no monitor
EDID is read, this control is used to decide which output to enable.
If the checkbox is in an indeterminate state, it signifies that the enabled outputs
are not as requested by the user. This will occur if a mixture of analog and digital
screens is used, or if the type of monitor used is different to the Force DVI state.
When the check box status is changed, the Apply button will become active.
Select Apply to force the required output.
Since the DVI (digital) output supports a pixel dot-clock frequency lower than the
analog output, the resolution dialog is updated when the check box is changed
to reflect the resolutions supported by the active output.

 Prune Modes: Enabling this check box limits the resolutions displayed in the resolution box to
those that are supported by all of the screens attached to the ECU-4DPOUT
card’s active outputs. This information is read from the monitor EDIDs when the
Wall Configuration tab is opened. If the status of this checkbox is changed, the
resolution control will be updated.

In some instances, these changes may require a system restart.

6 Configuring input cards and software decoders


In this chapter:

Configuration of the input cards and software decoders is done by means of BarcoConfig, a component of
the DirectShow Filter Suite package. Note that the component Display Control Center (cf. Display Control
Center) as shown in the screenshot below is only available in specific configurations equipped with split
card(s) DCB-100.

The number and type of video cards and DVI input cards varies with the respective controller
line.

• In the tree view on the left of the dialog window, select the entry General.
• Activate the button Change Settings…

In the dialog box displayed, modify the settings for the anti-jitter filter, NSL timing support, high-performance
mode, and deinterlacing mode, if desired.
• The Anti-jitter filter is enabled by default, and works with MPEG decoders. Disable the anti-jitter filter to
decrease latency (enables five frames jitter buffer).
• NSL timing support is disabled by default. Enable this setting if you have
• - Barco NSL-4601 displays, or
• - display timings of 3840x1080 at a frame rate of 25 Hz
• - OL-WXGA projectors (projector resolution 1368x768) with wall configurations
• 3x2@30Hz
• 3x1@25Hz, 30Hz, 60Hz
• 5x1@25Hz, 30Hz
• Enable High performance mode with high quality hardware (Barco controller). In this case, the Barco
®
renderer is used. Disabling this mode is recommended for "standard" PCs (the Microsoft renderer will be
used).
• Deinterlacing mode offers the following settings from its drop-down list:
• median: Default setting
• median (double frame): Doubles the frame rate and needs more resources. Use this setting when the
refresh rate of the split card DCB-100 is set to PAL, NTSC, or Automatic.
• none: Use this setting if you need resources. You will, however, see interlaced sources the way they
come in.
• Click Save to store the settings.
The button Edit Sources… is disabled at this point of the configuration.

6.2 Configuring video input card


BarcoConfig supplies information on file paths, file versions, and the channels/bandwidth of the board se-
lected. Additionally, the tool allows assigning a signal name to the physical location of the card.

Renaming signals is a legacy feature in DirectShow Filter Suite.


The signal names assigned in BarcoConfig will not show in CMS!

• In the tree view on the left of the dialog window, select the entry Video input (type VCR7008).
• Activate the button Change Settings…

• Select the board mode (PAL or NTSC) from the drop-down list. The default board mode is PAL.

The video input card does not support the mixing of NTSC and PAL sources.
All video sources must be of the same video standard; default board mode is PAL.
When changing the setting, a reboot of the board is made.

• Click Save to store the settings.


• Expand the node in the tree view and select the desired channel.
• Activate the button Edit Sources… to adjust the sources.
A dialog window is displayed.

Since you can switch boards in the drop-down list Board, you may encounter that the name of
the board you are currently editing may not be correctly represented in the title bar. There is,
however, no need for concern – the dialog window and the settings refer to the correct board.

Please bear in mind that the channel count in the user interface starts with zero whereas the
numbering of the sixteen cables starts with one. The channel number in the software is the
cable number minus 1.

• Make sure the board you wish to edit is selected on the drop-down list Board. Otherwise, select the de-
sired board from this drop-down list.

• In the tree view on the left of the dialog window, select the entry SW decoder (type MPEG)

• Activate the button Change Settings…


• In the dialog window displayed, specify the default NIC (i.e. the IP address of the LAN adapter connected
to the video network) by selecting the required IP address from the drop-down list.

This network interface is the default interface for streamed MPEG sources. Any multicast
source defined via the source settings dialog and streamed into this network will
automatically be received using this interface.
If the IP address of your video network changes, the address must be edited only once.

• Click Save to store your settings.


• Activate the button Edit Sources… to edit the sources. The MPEG Software Properties dialog window is
displayed.

• The drop-down list Source features a list of the names of all source settings for this decoder type in al-
phabetic order.
To create a new source setting, click New, enter the name, and select Apply. Note that editing is not pos-
sible until you activate the button Apply.
To delete a source configuration, select it from the list and click Delete.
To edit a source, change the IP address, the port, and the stream settings.
• A default source must be specified for software applications using source filters but lacking the ability to
interact and to request property pages (Windows Movie Maker e.g. requires the existence of a default
source during its initialization phase).
Specify one default source per decoder. Activating the checkbox  Default source will mark the current-
ly selected source as the default source.
• The group field Parameters serves to edit the unicast or multicast IP address and the port of the source
stream. Entries in the box Video pid are optional and required for transport streams to select a specific
video stream. The box Network interface can be left at 0.0.0.0 to use the IP address specified in the
configuration dialog of the MPEG software decoder. This is only required if your source is not in the vid-
eo LAN but in a different network (e.g. your office LAN).
• The group field Encoder settings permits to set the appropriate decoder template for the encoder in
your system in the drop-down list Encoder type. The associated input boxes are filled in automatically.
Entries in the box Encoder start string are optional, depending on the encoder type. Enter a string that is
additionally sent to the specified encoder. A suitable start string is automatically provided by selecting the

Video PID in the group field Parameters, if applicable.


If the desired encoder is not included in the drop-down list, activate the checkbox  Default source,
hoping the default settings will be fine for this source. If not, contact Barco for a list of required encoder
settings for your encoder.
• Click Apply to store your settings.
• Close the dialog window by selecting OK.

6.5 Configuring SW decoder type J2K


This dialog is a legacy feature in DirectShow Filter Suite. J2K is not supported.

6.6 Configuring SW decoder type MGS


The tool allows defining the IP address of the video network for MGS sources.
• In the tree view on the left of the dialog window, select the entry SW decoder (type MGS)

• Activate the button Change Settings…

7 Upgrading/Installing DirectShow Filter Suite

On new controllers, DirectShow Filter Suite is fully installed.

The DirectShow Filter Suite software version installed on your controller on delivery is provided on the CMS
Server Homepage.
If your controller comes with a product CD-ROM or product USB stick, the DirectShow Filter Suite software
version installed on your controller on delivery will be provided also on this medium.
Should you wish to upgrade your controller with the most recent version of DirectShow Filter Suite, please
first uninstall the previous version of DirectShow Filter Suite manually using Start | Control Panel | Programs
and Features (cf. section Uninstalling DirectShow Filter Suite).
In case the controller is an operator workstation in a TransForm N setup, we recommend using the Super
Installer of the CMS client application to install a new version of DirectShow Filter Suite. Alternatively down-
load the software manually from the CMS server.

DirectShow Filter Suite Release 3.2 can be installed on Windows 8.1 machines as well. In
this case, however, multiple graphics cards are not supported in high performance screen
scraping. Further, Aero Mode cannot be disabled.

7.1 Installing DirectShow Filter Suite


For installation of BarcoConfig, we recommend using the file DirectShow Filter Suite-3.1.0.xxx-Setup.exe.
If your controller comes with a product CD or USB stick, this setup executable is located on the product CD
or the product USB stick in the folder DirectShow Filter Suite. It is also run when clicking the link on the web
page of the CD/USB.
• Go to the CMS Server Homepage and navigate to Login | Software Downloads.

may not look right. It will be correct once the DCB-100 and the NVIDIA graphics card driver
have been installed and configured.

Upon installation of the DirectShow Filter Suite, your Device Manager will show the names of your input
cards.
• Having installed the drivers for all input cards, configure your new input card(s) using BarcoConfig (cf.
section Configuring input cards and software decoders).

7.3 Installing the driver for your graphics card

Be sure to install the specific driver matching your exact graphics card.

Should you intend to install DirectShow Filter Suiteon third party systems, i.e. non-Barco
controllers or machines, make sure you have the latest and correct version of the graphics
card driver installed.

DirectShow Filter Suite requires a graphics card with a special driver version.
• If, for some reason, the driver has not been installed, you may see a message in system tray saying the
driver could not be installed. To install the driver subsequently, proceed as follows:
• Open the Device Manager (Start | Control Panel | System | Device Manager), and select Update Driver
Software… from the graphics card right-click menu.
• Locate the driver on the CMS Homepage | Software Downloads, or the controller hard disk in the direc-
tory C:\BARCO\3rd_party\NVIDIA Driver\ in the subfolder associated with the respective firmware.
• Double click the driver file and click OK.
• Follow the instructions on screen. Be patient if the screen freezes for several minutes. Wait.
• On completion, select Finish.
• Upon restart, right click on your desktop. A context menu is displayed featuring a menu item NVIDIA
Control Panel. Your installation was successful.

If you have a DCB-100 split card installed, the input may not look correct upon installation of the
graphics card driver. However, it will be correct once the DCB-100 and the NVIDIA graphics
card have been configured.

To obtain a redundant network connection to the LAN, the two network ports of the onboard LAN adapter
can be configured in Teaming Mode.

9.1 Prerequisite

NIC teaming is not supported for Windows 10 client SKUs (non server). However, a network adapter driver is

provided by Intel for Windows 10, which we recommend to download from:

Once this driver update is installed, you will see the tab Teaming on the Properties dialog window. Note that

The network adapters of your controller requires Intel Network Connections software (19.1.51.0 or newer)
for configuration of Teaming Mode. Controllers supporting teaming mode usually have this network driver
installed.
In the event that the network driver is not installed, locate the setup files on the controller at
C:\Repository\LAN_PROWin_19.1_x64\.

9.2 Configuring an AFT team


To configure the AFT team, you must be logged on as administrator.
• Open Device Manager via
• Windows 7: Start | Control Panel | System | Device Manager
• Windows 10: Start | System | Devices | Device Manager

• Right click the desired network adapter (see table below), and select Properties from the context menu.

9.3 Revoking an AFT team


If desired, you can release the members of the AFT team again. To do so, log on as administrator, and open
the Device Manager as explained in section Configuring an AFT team.
• Right click the TEAM entry and select Properties from the context menu.
The Team Properties dialog box is displayed.
• On the Settings tab, select the Remove Team button.

able again as individual cards.

11 System recovery
Should the system need to be restored to the version and settings as delivered, use the Recovery System
Image on the USB stick included in the delivery volume.

Depending on device and use case additional steps may apply!


For details, please refer to the next section.

• If necessary, create the recovery USB stick by executing the script CopyFactoryImageOnUSB.cmd.

To restore CMS using the USB stick, proceed as follows:


• Boot from the USB stick.
After booting the screen shows:
 The name, version and date of the System Image to be restored.
 A menu providing the following options:
• R: Restore System Image from USB stick.
• C: Open command prompt.
• Q: Quit menu.

• Press R to restore the System Image from the USB stick.

11.1 First time setup for TFN-SD


The TFN-SD controller types (NSD-210 and NSD-410) are preinstalled with a full TFN-SD image, which in-
® ®
cludes the CMS server. Having completed the Windows 7 or Windows 10 installation wizard, the Trans-
Form NSD Configuration Tool will be launched, offering different configuration types for different use cases.

The configuration window can not be closed!

Windows is locked until the set up has been completed.

• To set up your controller, press Enter to continue in Administrator mode, and confirm the User Account
Control to allow the Windows Command Processor to make changes to the device.

• Select one of the five configuration options offered:


(1) Single Display Controller, incl. CMS-Server
(2) Single Display Client, without CMS-Server
(3) Application Node, ProServer only
(4) ProGateway Node
(5) Windows Workstation, no CMS components activated

• Confirm your selection by pressing Y or cancel and select a different option with any other input.

12 Troubleshooting
12.1 Don’t install optional RAID driver update from Win Update on ECU-200
®
On ECU-200, Windows Update offers an optional RAID driver update (Intel - Storage – Intel Desktop/Work-
station/ServerExpress Chipset SATA RAID Controller update (June 2011)) which MUST NOT be installed! This
driver update causes an endless reboot.

12.2 The display is scrambled


When setting up Mosaic mode with more than 1 graphics card, the display may look scrambled. Setting up
Mosaic with NVIDIA Control Panel is supported with only 1 graphics card. For systems with more than 1
graphics cards, a command line tool is required (cf. section Appendix – Mosaic Mode via command line tool).

12.3 Left and right part of the image on the display wall are mixed up
• Check the cabling.
• Check the order of the monitors on the NVIDIA Control Panel.

12.4 Main display changes after boot messages


This is a normal behavior of the NVIDIA driver. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and arrange the displays.

12.5 Mosaic Mode is not enabled automatically


Mosaic Mode is not enabled automatically until it has been configured manually on a newly installed system.

12.6 No sources are displayed


• Check the cabling.
• Open BarcoConfig. Select the source in the Unit info. Check on the properties page of the source if
there is a signal attached.
• Check the selected video standard for the video source.
• Open BarcoConfig and check the video interface.

12.7 IP sources are not displayed


• In the BarcoConfig tool, select the respective software decoder type. Check the source configuration.
• Check the firewall.
• Check the default IP address.
• Check the default NICs in BarcoConfig.

12.8 Performance problems with videos, videos are not smooth


Without Mosaic mode, moving a video across the boundaries of a GPU is not fully supported.
• Check and enable Mosaic Mode.

Via NVIDIA Control Panel, Mosaic mode is only supported for one graphcis card; multiple
graphics card require using the command line tool.

• Check the timing of the graphics card: The timing of the graphics card must match the timing of the
source to remove jitter.

12.9 Performance problem when displaying dozens of videos


• ®
Make sure that no AERO theme is selected on Windows 7 machines; cf. section Setting up Windows®.

12.10 Streaming videos no longer visible


• In the BarcoConfig tool, select the respective software decoder type (cf. sections 6.4, 6.5, or 6.6), and
check the IP settings.

12.11 The NVIDIA Control Panel is no longer responding


If you configure Mosaic mode with more than 1 graphics card, the NVIDIA Control Panel may no longer be
responding.
• Kill the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Setting up Mosaic with NVIDIA Control Panel is supported with only 1 graphics card. For more graphics
cards, a command line tool is required (cf. section Appendix – Mosaic Mode via command line tool).

12.12 No CMS Control Panel, Sidebar or Display Agent


• In the event the CMS Control Panel, Sidebar, or Display Agent will not start, check the ordering of the

network adapters (Windows 7). Even if only LAN 1 (top connector) is connected to the network, this
adapter may not be the top most entry.
®
Windows 10 unfortunately does not offer such solution. You can only edit the registry, which is not rec-
ommended.

• Reboot the controller.

12.13 The CMS Server homepage cannot be displayed


If the system has just started up, it will take several minutes (up to 5) until the JBOSS application server is up
and running, and the CMS Server homepage can be accessed. If the page is not displayed after this time, pro-
ceed as follows:
• Check the network connection (in case there is no network, the LAN interfaces requires loop-through).
• Check the spelling of the CMS Server name.
• Add the IP address of the CMS Server to the Trusted Sites in the Internet zone.

• Connect to the CMS Server using the IP address (find the IP address by clicking the Start button. Enter
cmd. The command prompt opens. Enter the command ipconfig /all. Take down the IP address.
• Check if JBOSS is up and running. If required, start JBOSS manually. After 5 minutes approx., the service
will be available.
• Disable one of the LAN interfaces and retry.

12.14 Default network interface


If the controller is set up in one network, there is no need to define the default interface.
However, in case both LAN interfaces are connected to a network, or if the IP address is changed, the LAN
interface for the CMS software / the controller needs to be specified.
Changing the IP address also requires adjusting or checking the entry in the default network interface!
In case both LAN interfaces are connected, the CMS Server will always take the IP of the upper inter-
face/lowest IP address.

12.15 Power-on fails or no boot message is visible when using Barco projec-
tion modules based on LED with DVI copper cables
This issue will only occur if the display wall has been controlled once using optical (fiber) cables, and is now
operating on DVI copper cables.
• If so, you will have to check the Optical Cable Power setting on the Inputs tab, making sure the check-
box  Enable is deactivated.

This check requires Expert access rights when logging in the web interface of the projection
modules.

To eliminate the error, please repeat the following steps for every projection module:
• Turn off the display controller.
• Connect to projection module via web interface.
• Login as Expert.
• Check the Optical Cable Power setting on the Inputs tab.
• Disable this feature in case you are using DVI copper cables.
• Repeat these steps for all displays and power on the display controller again.

12.16 Host name limitations


The following information must be observed when assigning computer names and hostnames on machines
®
using the operating system Windows 7. Incorrect hostnames or computer names may cause problems with
CMS later on.
 Hostname labels may contain only the ASCII letters 'a' through 'z' (case-insensitive), the digits '0' through
'9', and the hyphen (-).
 Hostname labels cannot begin or end with a hyphen.
 No other symbols, punctuation characters, underscores, or blank spaces are permitted.
 Avoid using only numerical characters or names consisting entirely of hexadecimal digits ('0' through '9'
plus the letters 'A' through 'F').
 Do not use names longer than 15 characters.
Do not start your computer name with a numerical character.

DCB-100 split cards are only supported in specific configurations. Please bear in mind for
any troubleshooting information with regard to these cards below.

12.17 No display after boot messages (DCB-100 configuration)


The wall scenario is above the limitations of the split card DCB-100, e.g. when the display was changed to a
higher resolution. Boot in safe mode.
• Select Start | All Programs | Barco | Display Control Center.
• In the Display Control Center, select Tools | Reset.

12.18 No display after boot messages (with DCB-100)


When the display has been changed to another resolution, the DCB-100 remains in cloning mode, and shows
a message box stating the reason. Reconfigure the wall by use of the Display Control Center.
®
• Reboot Windows in safe mode by selecting the key F8 during the boot phase.
• In safe mode, open the Display Control Center and reset the configuration.
• To do so, select Start | All Programs | Barco | Display Control Center.
®
• Reboot Windows again in normal mode.
• Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, enable Mosaic Mode, and check mark both displays below.
• Open the Display Control Center and readjust the display wall configuration.
®
• After another reboot of Windows , the issue should be solved.
• If there is still no image possible, try swapping the cables connected to the GPU head.

12.19 No display or corrupted image on upper GPU head (without DCB-100)


• Check whether it should be a single- or dual-link timing.
• With single-link timing, verify whether the single link DVI-adapter is installed on the upper GPU head.

12.20 Display Control Center does not switch from cloning mode to split
mode
If only locking is enabled, the Display Control Center may not switch from cloning mode to split mode. This
issue, however, only appears in unrealistic scenarios.

12.21 The display remains dark


• Check if the projection modules/monitors are switched on.
• Check the cabling.
At any rate, connector A (DCB-100) must always be connected to the display!
• Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel | Select a Task…, navigate to Display | Set up multiple displays
- Verify if all baseboards and mezzanine boards of the split card bundle(s) are activated (checked).

With loop-through configurations:


• Check if the projection modules have been configured with the required EDID, group size, and group
position.
• Check if the controller is up and running (check the LEDs on the front panel).
• Shut down the controller and reboot. When the controller reboots, hit DEL to enter the BIOS.
• Check and make sure that the onboard VGA (if any) is disabled (Barco Customer Support, see section
Contact).

12.22 Display changed from DCB-100 base board to mezzanine board after
reboot
When initially installing, or setting up a new resolution by implementing a new monitor or a new wall scenario
in the Display Control Center, the display has changed from the base board to the mezzanine board after
reboot. This is no error scenario but the normal behavior of the NVIDIA driver. Therefore, make sure to switch
back the displays on the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Proceed as follows:
• Right click on the desktop. The context menu is displayed.

• From the context menu, select NVIDIA Control Panel.

• In the tree view on the left pane Select a Task…, navigate to Display | Set up multiple displays

For each graphics card head connected, one monitor is displayed.


With DCB-100, the baseboard is indicated as SplitCard (1 of 2, or 1/3 of 4, resp. ); the mezzanine board as
SplitCard (2 of 2, or 2/4 of 4, resp.).
The projection modules/monitors connected to the baseboard are the main monitor and must be positioned
on the left.
• Use the mouse and switch the position of the monitors.

13 Appendix – Mosaic Mode via command line tool


In this chapter:
• Cabling
• Checking for undetected heads/displays
• Eliminating previous mosaic mode
• Nomenclature
• Setting up the mosaic

Make sure the GPUs of the graphics cards are flashed with NVIDIA's BAR1 VBIOS.

Mosaic allows for hardware acceleration across multiple displays by treating them as one single display. This
is the precondition for freely movable videos on multiple displays.
For applications, it is sufficient to have an extended desktop.
The NVIDIA Control Panel allows setting up mosaic for one graphics card (2 GPUs).
If there are two or more graphics cards in the system, set up Mosaic Mode using the command line tool
(CLT) configureMosaic.exe.

When setting up Mosaic Mode, it is mandatory that only those graphics cards be
connected whose displays are to be set up in Mosaic. If required, temporarily disconnect
projection modules until the mosaic has been setup.

All "configureMosaic.exe" commands must be executed in administration mode!

13.1 Cabling
It is mandatory that the heads/GPUs of one graphics card be connected to adjacent sections of the display.

In the picture below, "1. Graphics card" or "2. Graphics card", respectively, only serve to
distinguish the graphics cards. For some reason, it is unpredictable which graphics card
the system will assign to be the first one. This information is retrieved in the step "initiate
Mosaic mode".
GPU 0 stands for the top connector, GPU 1 stands for the bottom connector of the
graphics card.
The drawings are examples of correct/incorrect cable connections and merely serve to
visualize connecting adjacent displays to the same graphics card.

It is mandatory that all projection modules be connected via the same adapter from
DisplayPort to DVI. DO NOT USE any adapter to single link DVI concurrently with adapters
to dual link DVI!

13.2 Checking for undetected heads/displays


13.2.1 Windows® 10
• Right click on the desktop.
• From the context menu, select Display Settings.
• In case some displays are not listed, select Detect.
• Extend the desktop onto these systems.

(In case you cannot extend the desktop, reboot and try again.)
• Navigate to the drop-down list Multiple displays.
• For a large desktop, select Extend desktop to this display.
• Tick the checkbox  Make this my main display.

13.3 Eliminating previous mosaic mode


To have a well-defined starting point, we recommend running the command (in administration mode)
configureMosaic.exe disable

13.4 Nomenclature
The "labels of the display" as used in the pictures for correct cabling (cf. above) are converted into tuples. The
first index refers to the graphics card; the second index refers to the head/GPU.

13.5 Setting up the mosaic


13.5.1 First steps
• Make a sketch of the display wall: Draw a grid with the rows and columns of the display wall, thus repre-
senting each projection module by a cell in your grid.

13.5.2 Initiating Mosaic Mode


This step is required to retrieve information on the order of the graphics card from the system, i.e. "which is
which".

All "configureMosaic.exe" commands must be executed in administration mode!

In this step, the display of every graphics card is set up as a 1x1 mosaic.

The displays connected to one graphics card are treated as a 1x1 mosaic (although it is a
1x2 or a 2x1 arrangement of displays!).

• For every graphics card, execute the command configureMosaic.exe twice (in administration mode), i.e.
once for the upper head/GPU and then again for the bottom head/GPU.

When the command has been executed, only one of the displays wil be active. Locate this
display in your drawing. Take down the values of the "out parameters" of the command
just given in the respective cell in your drawing.

If you have two graphics cards, there are four heads/GPUs, and you will need to run the following com-
mands:

13.5.3 Disabling mosaic


• In order to set up the final mosaic, disable the 1x1 mosaics created in the previous step.
• Run the command (in administration mode) configureMosaic.exe disable

13.5.4 Setting up the final mosaic


In this final step, set the mosaic for the n x m configuration of the display wall. Therefore, the command
configureMosaic.exe needs to be executed only once.
The parameters entered in the command now reflect the actual number of rows and columns, i.e. cols=2,
rows=2.
The identified "out parameters" of the projection modules are added one by one, starting at the top left, mov-
ing to the right, subsequently going to the left of the following row… down to the right projection module of
the bottom row.

The "out parameters" of all projection modules are concatenated according to the pattern
shown in the drawing below.

• To check the mosaic, execute the command (in administration mode)


configureMosaic.exe query current

Mosaic Mode may be corrupted when displays are disconnected or when displays fail.
Restoring Mosaic Mode may require disconnecting all but one graphics card, setting up
mosaic for this single graphics card, reconnecting the other displays, and setting up
mosaic mode from scratch.
