Energy Therapy

In order to keep ourselves in harmony it is helpful to understand that our life force
is woven from the forces of earth and cosmos. Prior to existence, there was only one
force, one void, one consciousness. In the first impulse toward creation this force split
into a negative and positive polarity referred to as yin and yang. From this dynamic a
multiplicity of forces were generated, out of which all existence evolved and continues to
be sustained.
We can best understand how energetic therapies work by exploring the make up
of our own being. When we look at our selves, it seems that we are made out of solid
physical matter. But when we examine the inner structure of our body we find that this is
not true. Each of our cells are made of molecules which in turn are made of atoms. The
structure of the atom reveals that we are fundamentally energetic in nature. The atom
consists of a positively charged nucleus with negatively charged electrons arranged
around it. Magnetic forces arise from the motions of the charged particles. This
relationship, called the electron density, determines the appearance, form and function
of matter.
Qigong was developed in China. It comes from the ancient healing practices
developed by Taoist monks. Taoism is primarily a philosophical and scientific study of
universal law and cosmic consciousness. The practice of Taoism became the path or
way one would live their lives in order to remain in harmony with the natural forces of
the living universe. These are very basic principles. In order to stay alive, we need
oxygen, clean fresh water, nourishing food, appropriate exercise or physical activity,
and cultivation of mental clarity and awareness of being.
According to this way of thinking, illness, dis-ease and corruption develop when
disharmony occurs in the balance of positive and negative forces in our
body/mind/spirit, within our lives & relationships, and within the environment. The
practice of Qigong, originally referred to as "the healthy living method", has evolved
over many generations as a practice designed to cultivate harmony in all aspects of our
existence.
Qi like water has many forms. It hardens like ice into the physical structures of
our body. Within our body the qi flows like liquid forming oceans and lakes as primary
reservoirs of energy known as Danteans and acupoints. From these flow rivers and
streams known as energy channels. Our thoughts and emotions rise from our body like
a mist or steam, invisible to the eye but providing an energetic relationship to the world
outside of us. And as rain falls to earth and moisture is absorbed through roots, we also
are constantly fed energetically by the forces of earth and cosmos.
