HOLIDAY FUN

CLASS 3

2016-2017

It's summertime,
School vacation has begun,
Time for children to play,
And have fun in the sun.
Now the children
Are out of school,
There are trees to climb,
Swimming in the pool.
Time to spend
with special friends.
Dear Students,
The long awaited summer vacation is here, bringing with it the gift of
togetherness that is spent in exploring books, watching informative
programmes and playing games. Spend your time creatively by doing these
interesting activities we have put together for you.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Complete all the activities during the vacation.

All the work should be handwritten.

Original drawings / illustrations and creative use of material will be appreciated.

Present your work on A-4 size sheets and put it in an attractive folder with your
name and class clearly written at the top.

ENGLISH

1. One is never alone when one is with books. Sitting in your room with your book you
could go off to far off places, meet all kinds of people, animals, birds and even fairies.
What fun! Reading will teach you many new words. You will write better and speak well.
Read books to discover lots of new things!!

Read atleast two story books out of the list of books given below.

1. The Enormous Crocodile – Roald Dahl

4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Jeff Kenny

Do the following exercises on a separate sheet/sheets-


1. Draw your favourite character from each book and write few lines about the character.
2. Bring the books to the class and narrate the story in the classroom.

SCIENCE

Use coloured sheets to make your holiday homework science file. Make a nice cover. Use your
imagination and creativity. The content should be of 7-8 pages only.

1. 'Health is wealth’- To ensure the general health of your family, you should increase your intake of
water. Suggest five measures to take water in different ways during the day. Write the recipe of two
such health drinks. Take help from your parents to write the recipes. Make them during the holidays
and enjoy with your family.

2. Imagine yourself as any one of the animals or birds whose activities you loved to watch in the
following channels - National Geographic, Discovery, Animal Planet. Describe your home in few
sentences. You can include the following points-
 Name of your shelter, e.g. bird-nest.
 How and where do you make your shelter?
 What is special in your home and why you like it?
 Who all live with you?
 Which activity do you like to do there?
 Draw a picture of your shelter.

3. Make playing cards on any four animals you watched on the above mentioned channels, as
per the given instructions:-
a. Cut one A- 4 size coloured sheet into 4 small, equal rectangular sheets with the help of your
parents.
b. On each card paste or draw the animal on one side, mark it side ‘A’. Write different clues
about its food, physical features etc. on the back of the card, mark it side ‘B’.
c. These cards can be used to play a quiz with your friends.
d. Hide the picture on side ‘A’ and ask your friend to identify the animal with the help of the clues
given on side ‘B’.

Here’s an example to give you an idea.

> I am a herbivore.

> I am a wild animal.

> I like to eat banana and sugarcanes.

> I have two big ears.

> I have a long trunk.

MATHEMATICS

Q. Children love to play board games. Using your own imagination design a
board game for two players by following the given instructions.

 Use cardboard, chart paper, sketch pens to make the board game.
 Decorate the board with pictures related to traffic signs.
 There should be a START and FINISH box connected by at least 20-
space blocks.
 Use dice and coins for playing the game.
 The player who reaches the end first will win the game.
As an example (for making a board game)
-Imagine you are in a market and after shopping you are
returning home. -Mark market place as starting point and your
home as finishing point.

-Mark the places like petrol pump, grocery store etc. on even number
blocks and hurdles and obstructions like out of fuel, red signal etc. on
odd number blocks on your way back home.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Prepare a colourful travel booklet using pastel sheets and other decorative material about one of the
cities mentioned in the list given below:

a. Delhi e. Hyderabad i. Ahmedabad

b. Mumbai f. Bengaluru j. Guwahati

c. Chennai g. Srinagar

d. Kolkata h. Chandigarh

Take help from your family members to collect and paste pictures and to write about the places of
tourist interest, food, climate and languages commonly spoken by the people living in that city.
