ACTIVITY 3 The Shortcut

You’ll need…
1 - 2.2 V light bulb with holder
2 - 1.5 V dry cell
2 connecting wires w/ alligator clips

What to do?

1. Set-up a Circuit Connection as shown in Figure D.

2. Make the exposed parts of the wire touch momentarily. Do not keep them in contact
for so long.

a) What happened to the bulb when the exposed parts of the wire touch
momentarily?

3. Feel the short wire with your finger.


b) How does it feel?
c) What would happen if we let the exposed wires touch for a longer period of time?

4. Draw the schematic diagram of the set up when the exposed parts of the wire
touched. Trace the path the current using an arrow.

d) What do you call this circuit and why?
