ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We, the researchers, would like to thank certain people for being a

big contribution to this research. First and foremost, we thank our almighty

God for guiding us and made us stronger every time we felt like we wanted to

give up. He also witnessed our hardships and sacrifices and so, given us the

strength to keep going. We thank our parents for their non-stop support and

even serving us snacks whenever we do our research at home. Special

thanks to Engr. Dina M. Diesta, for helping us throughout the process of

making our thesis. She didn’t give up on us even though she was really busy

and especially those days, when there were also other groups who are asking

for her help with their thesis. Thank you Ms. Karen Manrilla and Ms. Karen

Dagoy for helping and participating to our thesis and even let us use their

class time. We are grateful to have the 4 sections of Grade 11 HUMSS

students our respondents willingly participate in our thesis, especially for the

class presidents who made an extra effort just to help the researchers when

we were having our hard time collecting their essays. Lastly, we offer our

gratefulness to Mr. Marvin Cereno, our Research teacher, for having a long

patience teaching and helping us with our thesis. We really appreciate your

effort, patiently checking the chapters passed by different groups from

different sections. This research wouldn’t become a tangible reality without

the help from all of you.

One major function of emotions is to energize motivation: either one

becomes motivated to do something that is beneficial or to avoid something

that is dangerous. In romantic love involved, it motivates men and women to

form pair-bonds. Nowadays, most students are enabling themselves to

synchronize their time in both academic and romantic aspect. By desire, they

become more interested and involved in dating. According to an article of

John Paolo Cabanlit and Massi Mapya (2014) entitled" A study on relationship

Affects students’ academic performance essay" stated that having love

relationship with other individual has been part of lifestyle for most students

today. Prioritizing their relationship with their love partners makes their time

less spent especially in their subjects and to other school activities that affects vii
their performance. However this was opposed by the Research of Zulueta &

Maglaya (2008), “motivation constitutes the degree of an individual’s

behaviour as manifested by his interests, attitudes, and aspirations to satisfy

his desired goal. It is an urge to satisfy goal object” (p. 212). Provided a

positive romantic relationship, adolescents would strive hard on performing

well in studies to bring a brighter future in their relationship. The researchers

came up with a study entitled, “Romantic Relationship Involvement and

Effects to Creative Writing”, with the goal to find the significant effect of

romantic relationship to a field of academe, which is chosen to be the creative

writing subject and to determine whether the study could break the stigma

that being involved in a romantic relationship is a hindrance in excelling on

academic performances, leading to failure. The researchers had the 146

students of grade 11 HUMSS to participate in the study: gave them a

demographic survey, group them according to their statuses, and from those

process, 45 students were selected. The participating students were ask to

create an essay in relation to the study’s topic and from their works, they were

evaluated. In the end of the study, it was discovered that from all the data

gathered, results had shown that there is no significant relationship between

romantic relationship and creative writing competency.
