Interest Certi cate just like TDS certi cate are issued at the end of the nancial year for the given
nancial year only or even for years preceding that. Interest certi cate on the Fixed Deposits opened in
a bank can be obtained by submission of written request in a letter at the bank's branch o ce. Some of
the banks are also providing option in their online netbanking site for the customer to download the
certi cate or to request for it.
These interest certi cates are mainly required for income tax return
ling purposes for verifying the accuracy of the gures and transaction
as well. Interest on Fixed/Term Deposits are subject to income tax,
though certain exemptions are allowed subject to ful llment of eligible
conditions under the Income-tax Act.
Following format of letter to bank manager can be used. Fill in all the details accurately. Add any other
points as may be necessary from your point of view.
