Student) To Lead The Prayer

The symbols used for operators in Excel formulas are different from mathematical equations written manually. In Excel: - The multiplication operator is an asterisk (*) - The division operator is a slash (/) - Formulas begin with an equal (=) sign followed by the operands and operator - In manual mathematical equations, the order is operand, operator, operand So in summary, the order and symbols for operators are different when writing formulas in Excel versus manually.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
Everybody stand up and let us pray. May I request (name of (Everybody will stand up and pray)
student) to lead the prayer.
b. Greetings Good Afternoon Sir Jeric.
Good Afternoon class! Mabuhay!
(Everybody will arrange the chairs
properly.
Before we start, please arrange your chairs properly. Thank you Ma’am.

You may now take your seats. None Ma’am.

c. Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent from the class?

Very Good! I’m really glad that everyone is present today. Keep
it up!
We learned how to insert columns
2. Review and rows in MS Excel.
 What have you learned about our discussion last meeting? Columns are the vertical space that
Yes, (call a student). goes down the window and are
 That is correct! represented by letters while rows
 What is a row and column? Yes, (call a student). are the horizontal space that goes
across the window and are
represented by numbers.

heading and click insert.

None Ma’am.
 How do we insert rows and column in Excel? Yes, (call a Yes Ma’am.
student).
 Very Good, (name of the student)!
 Do you have any questions?
 Did you understand the lesson?
3. Motivation
 Class, I will show you a picture on the screen and tell me
what do you see in the picture? Please raise your hand if
you want to answer. (Show the picture to the class.)

Data.
 Yes, (call a student).
 Another, (call a student).
 Yes, (call a student).
 Very good! All of your answers are correct!
 If we are to combine these three, What can we form?
Yes, (call a student).
 You got the correct answer. By using letters, numbers and
symbols, we can have already a data. A data contains letters, numbers,
and symbols.
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation of the lesson
 Based from your answers above, you can already come up
with a definition of data. What is a data? Yes, (call a
student).
 That’s a great idea! A data contains letters, numbers, and
symbols. Student A:
 In Excel a data is defined as information entered in Texts are letters, numbers and

values and formulas. Student B:
 What are these texts, values, and formulas in Excel? (Call Values are numbers.
students to answer the question.) Student C:
Formula is used to calculate.

 Very good! All your answers are correct!

 Texts are letters, symbols, numbers and spaces or any

combination that you enter into a cell. Examples:
Activity#1, Ana, 1,2,3…10,I U
 Value – is a number that you enter into a cell that you may
use in a formula. These numbers represent a quantity,
price, amount, exam score and any value. You may
include in the value the numeric symbols such as decimal
point, comma or currency. Examples: Grades:
85,90,75,88, $50, 05/22/1990
 Class, how can we determine if the number that we
entered in the cell is a text or value?
 Numbers are considered as texts if we use it as labels or in
numbering while it is considered as values if that numbers
represent a quantity, price amount, exam score, grades,
and etc. You may also include in the value the numeric
symbols such as decimal point, comma or currency. Formula is used in calculating
 Now, what is a formula, (call a student)? values.

 Correct! A formula is an equation that calculate a value.

 What do we need in order to formulate a formula? We need values and arithmetic

operations.
 Right. So, what are the four arithmetic operations, (call a
student)? The four arithmetic operations are
addition, subtraction,
 Very good! So again, data is consists of texts, values and multiplication, and division.
formulas.
(Answers may vary)
 Now, who can give me an example of data? (call students
Student A:
to answer).
English, ICF, Math, Science
Student B:
88,90,93,87
Student C:
Hannah, Kim, Camille
 Your answers are all correct!
None Ma’am.
 Do you have any questions about data? Yes Ma’am.
 Did you understand?

2. Lesson Proper
a. Activity Students will answer the activity:
 Class, I have here two given numbers which is 8 and 5.
You get your notebook and answer the questions below. Answers:
 Direction: Write your mathematical equation for the 1. 8+5=
following: 2. 8-5=
1. sum of the two numbers 3. 8x5=
2. difference of the two numbers 4. 8 5=
3. product of the two numbers
4. quotient of the two numbers
 Call students to write their answers on the board. Yes Ma’am.
 All of your answers are correct! Do you have the same
answers?
 Very Good! That is our formula if we will be solving or
calculating the given data using the mathematical
equation.
 In MS Excel, This is how we formulate a formula. The
image shows the Arithmetic Operation and Corresponding
Keyboard sign:
 In order to write Excel formulas we also need to use the
correct Operator Symbols.
Formulas contain two types of components:
1. Operators: Operations to be performed
Arithmetic operators: * / + -
2. Operands: Values to be operated on.

b. Analysis

differ from the formulas done manually? Yes, (call a Asterisk(*)
student). Slash (/)

 Very good answer. What is the symbol of the operator

 What else, (call a student)? it is the operand first followed by

 Correct! In Excel, Formulas always begin with an equal
sign (=), followed by the operand and the operator. We put an equal sign to calculate.

If we will put the equal sign at the

end of the formula, it will not
perform any calculation and the =
 Class, in Excel, why do we put an = sign before the sign will be considered as data
formula? only.

 That is right!
 We put an equal (=) sign before the formula because this
tells Excel that a calculation will need to be performed.
 What do you think will happen if we put the = sign at the (Students will answer)
end of the formula? Yes, (call a student). Answers:
1. =8+5
2. =8-5
 That is correct! 3. =8*5
4. =8/5

 Given the same data and problem from your previous

activity, given number is 8 and 5. How will you write
your answer using the MS Excel formulas for the
following?
1. sum of the two numbers
2. difference of the two numbers
3. product of the two numbers
4. quotient of the two numbers
(Call students to write the answers on the board.) (The students will listen and
observe)
c. Abstraction
 Since you already know the types of data that we can
enter in excel and how to formulate a formula, we will
now enter data in excel and start calculating using
formulas.

(The teacher will discuss and demonstrate to the class on

how to enter data and perform basic arithmetic
calculations)

 How do we enter data and formula in MS Excel?

 When entering data in Excel, you enter it in the active
cell.
 There are two ways to enter data and formula into a cell:
1. Type directly into the cell.
 Click on a cell, and type in the data (numbers, texts
or formulas) or formula and press Enter.

2. Type into the formula bar.

 Click on a cell, and then click in the formula bar.
 Now type the data (numbers, texts or formulas) or
formula into the bar and press Enter.

(The students will observe)

 Using the data entered, we can now perform basic
calculations in excel. Always remember that when we Yes Ma’am.
calculate, there should have a formula and the formula None Ma’am.
should begin with an equal (=) sign, followed by the Yes Ma’am.
operands and operator.
(demonstrate how to enter data and formula to the
students)
 Class, can you follow?
 Do you have any questions?
 Did you understand?

d. Application
