___19. It is a system of thunderstorms that are moving around a center. As the winds intensify or
weaken, the category is upgraded or downgraded accordingly.
a. Tropical cyclone b. Typhoon c. Earthquake d. storm
(For # 20-22)
Tropical depression, tropical storm, typhoon, and supertyphoon are categories of tropical
cyclones. In simple terms, a tropical cyclone is a system of thunderstorms that are moving around a center.
As the winds intensify or weaken, the category is upgraded or downgraded accordingly.
Tropical Depression 64, Tropical Storm 118, Typhoon 200, Supertyphoon greater than 200. The
term typhoon is used only in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean. In the northeastern part of the
Pacific Ocean and in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean, the equivalent term is hurricane. Thus, a
hurricane on one side of the Pacific Ocean will be called a typhoon if it crosses into the other side.
In the Philippines, we use the same word for all categories of tropical cyclones. We call it bagyo
whether it is a tropical depression, a tropical storm or a typhoon.

___20. What is the other term for typhoon coming from Atlantic Ocean?
a.bagyo b.hurricane c.whirlpool d. both a and b
___21. A weatherman reported that a typhoon has a maximum wind speed of greater than 200. What is
the category of the typhoon?
a.typhoon b.tropical depression c.supertyphoon d. none of the above
___22. A general term for all of the tropical cyclones in the Philippines?
a.typhoon b.bagyo c.hurricane d. none of the above
___23. Tropical cyclones require ________ ocean waters to be able to develop.
a. warm b. cold C. both a and b d. none of the above
___24. The lowest air pressure is at the ____________ of a tropical cyclone.
a. Eyewall b. eye c. side d. front
___25. What are the differences between asteroids and planets?
a. Planets rotate at a speed much faster than asteroids
b. Planets orbit around the sun and asteroids do not
c. Planets are larger and shaped like spheres, while asteroids are smaller and not
spherical
d. Asteroids are able to hit Earth, and planets are not
___26. The icy, hard part of the comet is called the ______. As the comet melts, sometimes large chunks
of ice break off in a hurry and large amounts of gases escape at once and cause a bright “outburst”.
a. Coma b. nucleus c. tail d. both a and b
___27. Where are most asteroid found?

___28. Is a portion of a meteoroid or asteroid that survives its passage through the atmosphere and hits
the ground without being destroyed.
a. Meteor b. meteoroid c. meteorites d. comet
___29. What is the main difference between meteoroids and asteroids?
a. Asteroids are only found in the "belt" between Mars and Jupiter
b. Asteroids are pieces of comets, whereas meteoroids are pieces of space debris
c. Meteoroids are generally bigger than asteroids
d. Asteroids are generally bigger than meteoroids
___30. The particles which produce meteor showers come from
