Lesson 3 - Career Interview Reflection

The student interviewed Officer Melissa Link, a police officer at San Diego State University. A typical day for Officer Link involves responding to 911 calls, interacting with the public, enforcing traffic laws, and conducting security checks around campus. Some key skills needed for the career are empathy and the ability to handle a variety of situations. The student learned that police departments review transcripts and that ride-alongs provide insight into an officer's day. While finding meaning in helping keep communities safe, the student was concerned about risks like injury or death. However, the career aligns with the student's strengths as a natural leader interested in doing the right thing. To prepare, the student would need good grades, passing entrance exams, and completing the police academy
