Digital Image Processing IT Question Paper Sets 2018

This document contains two internal tests from a Digital Image Processing course at Goa College of Engineering. The first test covers topics like the major elements of an image processing system, connectivity concepts, properties of the 2D DFT, various transform matrices, and the KL transform. The second test examines homomorphic filtering, unsharp masking and high boost filtering, the equivalence of filtering in spatial and frequency domains, arithmetic coding on a sample data sequence, and applying the LZW coding procedure.

Q1. With the help of block diagram, explain the major elements in an image processing
system. [5]
Q2. Explain the concept of Connectivity. Consider two image subsets S1 and S2 as shown
in the following figure. For V = {1}, determine whether these two subsets are i) 4
adjacent ii) 8-adjacent and iii) m-adjacent. ( P.T.O. for figure) [5]
Q3. State and prove any two of the following properties of 2D DFT. [5]
i) Separability, ii) Translation, and iii) Periodicity.
Q4. Write down the transformation matrix/kernels (N=4) for DCT transform, Haar
transform, Hadamard transform, Walsh transform and Slant transform. [5]
Q5. Explain the KL transform with the help of mathematical expressions and discuss its
merits and demerits. [5]

Q1. Explain how homomorphic filtering is performed with the help of neat block diagram. [5]
Q2. Discuss the following methods:
i) Unsharp Masking ii) High boost filter [5]
Q3. Show the equivalence between filtering approach in spatial domain & frequency domain.
