Chapter I
INTRODUCTION
Background of the study
Paste is a term for any very thick viscous fluid. In this study, it refers to an adhesive. It

can be called an adhesive if it wets the surface, adheres to them, develops strength once applied,

and finally, remains stable after sticking the materials. The researcher aims to produce paste out

of jackfruits, lanzones, banana.

Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) or also known as jack tree or simply jak is a

species of Artocarpus genus and widely abundant in the parts of South and Southeast Asia but I

believed to have originated in the Southwestern rainforests in India. It is cultivated in tropical

regions – that including the Philippines. Studies have proven Jackfruit sap has the ability to

become glue for it contains a substance which is required to form adhesive, called latex.

However, this study has yet to prove if the exocarp has the ability to become a potential adhesive

as well.

Lanzones (Lansium domesticum) is very delicious and aside from that it is very

nutritious. And lanzones is one of the most popular fruit in the country. But we noticed that after

we eat lanzones we will just throw the skin in the garbage and sometimes we will see it in the

market near the streets, that make our environment dirty. So this is the purpose that we conduct

this study to help recycling the skin of lanzones by making glue out from its sap. Because the sap

of the skin of lanzones of lanzones is extremely sticky that can be a good characteristic of a glue.

And aside from that, we can keep our environment clean and we can help also those students who

used glue. Because commercial glue nowadays become more expensive and they cannot afford it.
Papaya (Carica papaya) is a small, sparsely branched tree, usually with a

single stem growing from 5 to 10 m (16 to 33 ft) tall, with spirally arranged leaves confined to the

top of the trunk. The lower trunk is conspicuously scarred where leaves and fruit were borne. The

leaves are large, 50–70 cm (20–28 in) in diameter, deeply palmately lobed, with seven lobes. All

parts of the plant contain latex in articulated laticifers.[6]Papayas are dioecious. The flowers are 5-

parted and highly dimorphic, the male flowers with the stamens fused to the petals. The female

flowers have a superior ovary and five contorted petals loosely connected at the base. Male and

female flowers are borne in the leaf axils, the males in multiflowered dichasia, the female flowers

is few-flowered dichasia. The flowers are sweet-scented, open at night and are wind or insect

pollinated. The fruit is a large berry about 15–45 cm (5.9–17.7 in) long and 10–30 cm (3.9–

11.8 in) in diameter. It is ripe when it feels soft (as soft as a ripe avocado or a bit softer) and its

skin has attained an amber to orange hue.

Literature Review

Our research aims to determine the possibility use of Jackfruit Sap to

developed toxic-free and all-natural adhesive. Jackfruits were gathered and their

Saps were extracted. The researchers of this study compared their product with

commercial glue. The materials tested were papers and woods. Glue is a type of

liquid that used cohesive and adhesive forces. These two forces work together to

create tools that you can use in housework, at work at the office, and arts and crafts.

Adhesion is the attachment of one material to another, due to a variety of potential

interfaces. Adhesive have an altered molecular structure due to bonding between

molecules of a ploymer my fill cracks in the surface being attached, the molecules

may also develop attraction by intermolecular forces, or they many react by

developing covalent bonds.

The jackfruit is our national fruit. It is one of the most famous and popular

fruits in Bangladesh. It is a summer fruit. It is found mainly in the month of Jaista.

It grows in plenty in plenty in the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet also on the

high land of Dhaka, Gazipur, Mymensingh, tangail, comilla, and jessore. It is juicy,

sweet and delicious. It is bigger in size than other fruits. The jackfruit seeds are also

used as food. The jackfruit is comparatively cheap. It is popular with common

people. The jackfruit and its juice are in great demand the entire world by eating

jackfruit we get vitamins and mineral salts. We should give attention to increasing

the production of jackfruits. It is necessary for us to plant more jackfruit tree every

year.

Our study aims to make use of banana sap and other organic products as

effective adhesive components in improving the quality of glues. It aims to

determine these improvements through comparing with organic glue. It is done by

making the banana sap glue, cassava starch glue, and glue from rich and egg white.\

The study design was aim to determine the effectiveness of lanzones

(lansium domesticum) as repellent. It has been linked with numerous diseases that

may ultimately lead to death. However, in this island of camiguin, Philippines local

folks used to peelings of lanzones (lansium domesticum) as way of driving away

the said insect by drying it and using it as incense.

This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of the ‘lanzones pellings’

extract as an alternative source of repellent. Lanzones fruit were taxonomically and

thoroughly washed before it was extracted on the day of the experiment. Three

trials were made for each set-up and results of the lanzones peelings extract were

compared to the control of this experiment.

Hypothesis
At 0.5 level of significance the following hypothesis are tested there is no significant

difference in mixing the saps of jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), lanzones (Lansium

domesticum) and papaya (Carica papaya) as an alternative.

Scope and limitations

This study the feasibility of the Jackfruit, lanzones, papaya as a glue. Thus the white glue

contains gelatin that is made up of skin, bones and hooves of horses, pigs and cows, but the sap of

jackfruit, lanzones and papaya is more cheap and more sticky than the ordinary white glue

because we can get its sap from its tree or in the actual fruit of jackfruit, lanzones and papaya by

squashing it from its peel and it is a common fruit that you can find is easily in the market or in

farms.
Research question

1.) How strong was the sap as an alternative glue?

2.) Are the saps effective as an alternative glue?

3.) Is there significant difference in mixing the saps of jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus)

lanzones (Lansium domesticum) and papaya (Carica papaya) as an alternative glue?

Design

Jackfruit (artocarpus heterophyllus) is an ancient fruit that is widely consumed as a fresh fruit.

The use of jackfruit bulb and its parts has also been report since ancient time for their therapeutic

qualities. The beneficial physiological effects may also have preventive application in a variety of

pathologies. The health benefits of jackfruit have been attributed to its wide range of

physicochemical applications. This this review presents an overview of the functional, medicinal,

and physicochemical properties of this fruit.

Papaya (Carica papaya) papaw or pawpaw is the plant Carica papaya, one of the 22 accepted

species in the genus Carica of the family Caricaceae. Its origin is in the tropics of the Americas,

perhaps from southern Mexico and neighboring Central America.

Lanzones (Lansium domesticum) also known as langsat or lanzones, is a species of tree in

the Mahogany family. The plant originates from western Peninsular Malaysia

Materials

1.) 1⁄4 kilo of papaya 6.) bowl

2.) 1⁄4 kilo of lanzones 7.) knife

3.) 1⁄4 kilo of jackfruit 8.) All-purpose flour

4.) 85 ml of water

5.) stirring rod

Procedure

Step 1:
Get the knife and the 1⁄4 kilo of papaya and 1⁄4 kilo jackfruit and 1⁄4 kilo of lanzones.

Step 2:
We need to peel 1⁄4 kilo of papaya, 1⁄4 kilo of lanzones and 1⁄4 kilo of jackfruit. When all
the ingredients are peeled off, put all the ingredients in the bowl and mix using stirring rod.

Step 3:
Add the all-purpose flour and put the 85 ml of water, then mix it together.
