PART OF A LONG REPORT

The parts of a long report can be grouped into three sections:

Front matter,Body and End matter .

Plan and write the long report around these and your task will be completes more efficiently

The three mains section of the report

Parts of a long formal report

Part Purpose
Title Identifies the report’s title ,the receiver’s name and title, the write ‘s
name and title and the date
Letter of Indicates in the form of a formal covering letter the person who
transmittal authorized or requested the report and problems addressed

Its serves asa record of transmittal, identifies the writer and


acknowledgement others who contributed
Terms of references State Cleary and concisely the scope of the report
Acknowledgement List the names of persons and institutions who assisted in preparing the
report
Table of contents Records the names of each part and the name of each first and second
order heading within the body and the page on which each occurs
List of Records page numbers of tables , illustrations and diagrams
figures/tables
Executives Provides the reader with a brief summary on the materiel in the main text
summary of the report
It includes the report ‘s purpose ,scope methods finding and conclusion
Synopsis or Provides a brief description or informative overview of the report’s most
Abstract important point
Glossary Defines and explains technical words
Body : introductory Defines the research task and problem and includes
section  The purposed statement
 Background information
 Scope, aims limits of the report, size and complexity
 Autholirisation when ,how and by whom
Body central Provides an analysis of the report’s findings and evaluates the main facts
section
Recommendation Offers reasoned and logical solution or course of action
Signature block Contains the signature,name and jobs title of the write ,usually placed
after the recommendation and before the appendices and bibliography
Appandices and Present additional details and materiel such as charts and tables are
attachment relevant to the report
References and References list the source of the information quoted in the text the
bibliography bibliography contain recommended reading materiel on the subject
The list of references and called either references or bibliography
