1 Key dates
Centres should check the dates for oral and practical tests, which will fall outside the main written
examination paper series, well in advance. These dates can be found on the relevant timetable.

1.1 Entry deadlines and results

Please see the Key Dates section of this manual for the entry and coursework mark submission
deadlines, and results and certificate dates. The Key Dates section also includes details of when EDI
basedata and Edexcel Online are available.

Centres should also check the dates for the oral and practical tests which fall outside the main written
paper series, well in advance. These dates can also be found in the Key Dates section of this manual.

2 Entry Procedures
Please see qualifications.pearson.com/exam-support for details on how to make registrations and
entries on Edexcel Online and EDI. It also contains information on fees, results and certification.

2.1 Private candidates

Private candidates are candidates taking a qualification without being enrolled full time in a centre.
They are responsible for their own entries, which must be made through an approved centre. Some
qualifications are not available to private candidates. For a full list of qualifications and private
candidate eligibility see the Pearson Qualifications website.

3 Resit opportunities for legacy specifications

Candidates taking legacy AS/A levels in any subject will have the opportunity to resit these
qualifications in the June following the final scheduled award. For example, for 2017 reformed subjects,
the final AS/A level legacy resit entries will be in June 2019.
Only candidates who have previously entered for the AS/A level may enter for the legacy resit.
Otherwise, only candidates who have good reason not to have taken it when planned (such as illness)
may enter.
All units will be available, as in any normal June series.
Candidates may carry forward their previously banked unit marks for coursework, or may submit new
coursework entries.

They can be taken in the same exam series, or can be banked under the candidate’s UCI if taken in a
number of series. No grade can be issued unless the cash-in code is entered.

Certification rules
AS Further Mathematics cannot be certificated unless AS Mathematics (or AS Pure Mathematics)
or A level Mathematics has been certificated, or is being concurrently certificated.
A level Further Mathematics cannot be certificated unless A level Mathematics has been certificated, or
is being concurrently certificated.
AS Further Mathematics (Additional) cannot be certificated unless A level Mathematics and A level
Further Mathematics have been certificated, or are being concurrently certificated.

A level Further Mathematics (Additional) cannot be certificated unless A level Mathematics and A level
Further Mathematics have been certificated, or are being concurrently certificated.
Notice

Once a candidate certificates a Mathematics subject, the units which have been used to generate the
award are 'locked' to that title (even if the candidate re-takes them). Units locked to a subject title
through a previous certification may be 'unlocked' by re-entering for that same title. For example,
if a candidate who has already certificated AS Mathematics wishes to resit one of these units they
should be entered for that unit and AS Mathematics to ensure the other units that contribute to AS
Mathematics are available for certification.
Mathematics subjects certificated before the end of a course should be re-certificated at the end of
the course. For example, if a candidate who has already certificated A level Mathematics takes three
more units and certificates AS Further Mathematics without re-entering A level Mathematics, the grade
for AS Further Mathematics will be generated from those three units. Re-entering A level Mathematics
ensures that all units are available for re-use and that the grades for both titles are based on the
optimum combination of units.
