§1. Consider a system which is initially described by a stationary state ψ(x, 0) = √1 [φ1 (x) + φ2 (x)]
. The

energy eigenvalue is zero for state one and ‘E’ for state two. Find the time after which the system
will be in the state ψ(x, t) = √12 [φ1 (x) − φ2 (x)] . [1 mark]

§2. A hydrogen atom undergoes two transitions (1) from n=3 to to n=2, and (2) from n=2 to the ground

state. Find out the ratio of photon energies emitted in these transitions , E21
. [1 mark]

§3. A particle of mass ‘m’ is in the harmonic oscillator potential. The stationary state of the particle is
given by ψ(x, 0) = A[3φ0 (x) + 4 φ1 (x)]. Find the value of ‘A’ and calculate the expectation value of
energy of the particle. [2 marks]

§4. The probability to find an electron in the range x=0 to 3a/4 in an infinite square potential well of
width a is 75%. Find out the lowest quantum state of the electron. [2 marks]

(f) Find out the expectation values of ‘r’ for ground state of hydrogen atom.
