INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY USED AT FEDERAL MOGUL GOETZE
IT system is a network of hardware and software used to share, collect and transfer data or
messages through internal network of an organisation is called IT system.
It actually comprises of the Five major elements i.e: software, hardware, data ,procedures and user.
In order to the data to be to be processed the functions of the required essentials:
i. Software: There needs to be a software so as to communicate through the same network who are
all linked to it or using it.
ii. Hardware: It is very necessary to have the required hardware to work as the host server for the
following software used in the organisation which should also have the capability to handle the
traffic.
iii. Data: The most important in an organisation is the transfer of it’s data in a secure and confidential
way, also the mini communication between the employees of the organisation is part of the
official data, which is transferred through the server with the help the portal.
iv. Procedures: There’s a set of rules and procedure which have to be followed during the usage of
the software and for the transfer of data and files.
v. User: The user is the most important of this chain to fulfil the purpose of creation of the IT
systems.
At Federal Mogul it being an industry which is into automobile sector and have factory workers, one
of the most challenging tasks are is to keep a track of the purchasing order and also the attendance
of workers and employees
In order to place an order for the acquisition of raw materials, the message from factory is transferred
to stores which intern forwards the message to purchasing department which is so on so forth
continued and when the material are received this message is transferred to finance department which
in turn releases the funds and intimates through the portal
The whole process of instructions, requests and orders happen thorough messages to different
departments through one single portal.
For the better understanding how the IT systems work in federal mogul, we would have to go to in
detail with process involved in, the process selected for this would be purchase requisition.
The purchase requisition has following steps involved:
Purchase requisition Approval by authority Placing an order
Stores Finance department
Receiving
This process starts at the base level in the factory where the notification of low
inventories is raised by one of the many systems used.
The purchase requisition order is placed by the Stores team using SAP ERP software which notifies
the finance department as well human resource team through in house portal called Excelity.
The approval from the concerned authority is gathered through Excelity and a notification would be
sent to Senior branch manager and also the stores.
The approval is then forwarded to purchases department which makes the necessary purchases
through IAM SQL servers ( for the sake of identification and managing ).
The materials received at the gate would be informed to stores through SAP ERP software about the
arrival of the goods.
The Stores after collection of the good informs the Finance department and HR department through
an official mail through Excelity.
The finance department then takes a final confirmation from the SR branch manager through excelity
by using IAM SQL.
One of the most significant part of the IT systems is also it’s network used, for such major chunk of
data to be transferred securely and confidentially , there has to be servers such as ENGDAT etc.
The transfer of data follows certain protocols and steps :
i. It involves servers
ii. It involves softwares.
The flow of data through
systems is as follows:
START USER Software
END USER HARDWARE
The network works in such a way that the portal for the user would be hosted by the servers such as
ENGDAT/OFTP, for transfer of files, data or messages.
The softwares used in Federal Mogul’s are linked to the server which are centrally located and which
are connected through same network.
There are softwares or servers which are personally developed such as IAM SQL , which is used for
identity and access management , this is used mainly for the sake of employees and workers
attendance and also check the authencity and maintain single line of accounts for every employee and
not multiple.
The application of leave also works through these portals which is mainly handled by in-house
software called Excelity. The track of leaves would be stored in central server by using IAM SQL.
