Natural Disaster Assignment


For this assignment, you will research one of the following types of
natural disasters:

1) Earthquakes 4) Volcanoes
2) Tsunamis 5) Tornadoes
3) Hurricanes

The assignment is in two parts: Part A is rough notes and Part B is the
slideshow or Powerpoint.

The suggested outline for your google slideshow/Powerpoint is as


follows:

Title Page:
 name of your natural disaster in large font
 an image of your natural disaster happening, or its impact
 Your name

Slide 1:
 How common is your natural disaster, and what are some
countries/areas of the world where they take place?
 Do they take place in Canada?

Slide 2:
 Why does your natural disaster happen?
o What natural processes lead to it?
 Are there different types?

Slide 3:
 General impacts of your natural disaster on humans, buildings,
cities, etc….

Slide 4:
 Details on one major real-life example of your natural disaster
happening
 When and where did it happen?
 What was destroyed?
 How many people died?

Part A: Rough Note Tips:


 Before you complete the slideshow, you must complete rough notes
using the provided template. Rough notes should be given to the
teacher once you are finished your slideshow.
 Remember to use your own words. Your wording and structure
MUST be different from the source/website you got it from)
 You should use reliable sources (e.g. not Wikipedia, yahoo answers,
etc…).

Part B: Slideshow Tips:


 Each slide should have 4 to 5 ‘bullets’.
o Bullets do not have to be complete sentences.
o The font of most text should be size 20, though
headings/titles can be a little larger.
o Your chosen font style should be easy to read
 Images enhance the presentation.
o You should have 1 relevant picture or images per slide.
o Images should be directly relevant to the specific issue
discussed on the slides they are placed on.
