This document discusses isometric drawings and provides examples. It defines isometric drawings as pictorial views that make objects appear 3D using 2D drawing techniques. There are two types of pictorial drawings: axonometric views like isometric, dimetric, and trimetric views; and oblique views. The document provides steps for creating isometric drawings in AutoCAD, including using isocircles and setting the appropriate grid and snap settings. It includes examples of making isometric and oblique drawings from orthographic views at various angles like 30 and 45 degrees.

Isometric View
• Is a pictorial drawing

• In pictorial view object appears to be 3-dimensional, 3D

• It has width, height & depth

• Uses 2D drawing techniques

• 2 types of pictorial drawings

– Axonometric

• Isometric

• Dimetric

• Trimetric

– Oblique
Example

• An object with its isometric drawing

Dimetric

Isometric

Trimetric
Oblique drawing

• Depicts the true size and shape of the front face

• Add depth to make it 2D

Oblique
Autocad Isometric Drawing

• Draft setting/grid setting

• Check “isometric snap”
• To draw isocircle
– Change the type of isocircle –top, left, right by
clicking ‘F5’
– Click Ellipse
– Click arrow key choose “isocircle”
– Centre point
– radius
Creating an Isometric Drawing

• Draw a box layout of the object

• Add lines defining other parts
• Trim/ erase the unwanted lines
Example 1

• Create an isometric drawing using 30º and

isocircle at planar
Steps
1. Draw the top layout using line to a rectangle
2. Draw the height to form a complete 2D rectangle box
3. Draw two line for the section difference
4. Draw the line for the position of depth
5. Trim unwanted lines to see the depth
6. Draw line to position the circle
7. Using iso-circle top, draw the circles
8. Copy and paste for bottom using 90⁰
9. Trim unwanted lines to see the curve
10. Draw line to position the circles
11. Using iso-circle top, draw the circles
12. Trim unwanted lines
Example
• Create the oblique receding axis at 45º

Steps

• Draw the front face

• Then draw lines towards axis 45º
• Identify the lines for repetition of front face
• Copy and paste
• Trim / erase
• Draw remaining lines
• Trim/erase
Practical 7

• Create oblique view from front view of

orthographic view 1 at 35º

• Create isometric view for orthographic view
