Introduction to IQ portion
In Medical, Architecture and Engineering tests there are 10 Mcqs from this portion while in
business studies there are 40 Mcqs. Most of the students who are naturally good at math are able
to score full marks in this portion. Others can also get full marks if they practice.

In IQ you'll basically face 4 types of questions which will be asked in different ways:

1) Coding
2) Directions
3) Odd one out
4) Find the missing number

Odd One Out:

This portion tests your intelligence and your general knowledge. In most of the questions
General knowledge is tested. Now these questions can be about anything that exists including the
people. Moreover such questions can have multiple answers depending upon the reader.
Everyone thinks in his own way.

For example:

Questions may include 3 countries of Asia and a 4th one from Africa. You may be given 3 parts
of a specific structure and a 4th one from some other source. Questions may include animals,
birds, and books. Also a common question in which some months are given and you are to select
the odd one. This is done on basis of number of days in them usually, however their can also be
some different logic. To master this portion you need practice.

Directions:
Questions from this category can give you hard time, but if you just follow the steps it will be an
easy task.

An example question:

Maths moved 5km north, turned right and moved 4km straight, again turned right and moved
5km. What is his position with respect to the starting point?

Solution:
 Step 1: Draw the direction axis first of all. I.e. North, south, east and west.
 Step 2: Consider origin as the starting point.
 Step 3: Plot the distance moved as lines on the paper. i.e from origin a line towards north
will show 5km, then a line on right 4km, then line on another right 5km. This is the final
point.
 Step 4: Check the distance of this point from the origin. You can also be asked the
direction of the final point.

Coding:

This type has some further sub-types.

a) Substitution based questions:

e.g.: If "earth" is coded as 23456 then how the word "heart" will be coded as?
Note the word Earth and Heart are made from the same set of alphabets. In this case each
alphabet corresponds to a specific number. In this case 2 for e, 3 for a and so on. So you'll use
this knowledge to construct the new number from the given word i.e heart.
In place of the number (23456) you can also be given another word. Then each alphabet will
correspond to some other alphabet.

b) Each alphabet is moved forward or backward to give the new word:

This method might seem lengthy apparently but once you get used to it, you will solve the
questions within few seconds. Consider a question.

Q: If BAT stands for CDQ then PEN stands for?

Solution:

Write all the alphabets from A to Z on a rough paper. You’ll be given pages during NET for
rough work. Next write the numbers below these alphabets i.e. 1 for A, 2 for B, 3 for C, so on
and 26 for Z.
A B C D E ……….. Z
1 2 3 4 5 ……….. 26
Now convert the alphabets you have to numbers.
i.e.

B A T will be 2 1 20

And
C D Q will be 3 4 17

Now from the second list of figures subtract the first one, one by one:
3–2=1
4–1=3
17 – 20 = -3
Now convert PEN into digits.
It will be 16 5 14

Add the differences you got above in these, i.e.

16 + 1 = 17
5+3=8
14 + (-3) = 11
So new word will be:
17 8 11

Convert it back to alphabets.

Q H K

And this is your answer.

Finding the missing number

Example question
Find the number which replaces the question mark.
1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13,?

In these questions you have to detect which operation is performed on first number to get next
number, or which operation is performed on first two numbers to get 3rd number.

E.g. in this series 1, 2, 4, 8, 16…

every number is being multiplied by 2 to get next number.

However in first example, two numbers are added to get the next number.
1+2 = 3
2 +3 =5
and so on...

You have to search for any such operation. It can be multiplication, division, addition, a
combination of two operations. In these questions you need to use ur brain.

As you'll solve the questions you'll get to know about different possibilities/operations which can
be performed.

Introduction to English portion in NET

Questions in English portion are from the following categories.
1) Synonyms
2) Antonyms
3) Analogy
4) Correct Spellings
5) Sentence Completion
6) Choosing correct sentence
7) Comprehensions

In a test 4 or 5 type of questions can be added. In business studies all type of questions are added.

Synonyms and Antonyms:

There is no way one can be perfect in this portion. The words that are added in NET, most of
them are from either Mr. chips Novel or the SAT books. Now in SAT books there are 3500+
words and in Mr chips about 300 words which you need to learn.
We have prepared the list of words that are in Mr. Chips. Apart from these we have words that
are being added in NET since 2011. These are about 200. So total 500 words which you can
prepare to score fine marks (a Must thing for students of Business studies)

Analogy:
Concept of Analogy is explained on this link, read it out:

Introduction to Maths Portion of Business Studies

Questions in this category will be from two levels:

1) General Maths/Basic Maths

2) Intermediate Maths ( Fsc Maths )

Basic Math covers the topics like:

 Algebra
 Geometry
 Logarithms
 Indices and surds
 Ratio problems
 Word problems
 Age problems

There will be a few topics from Fsc math which are:

 Matrices
 Probability
 Trigonometry
 Vectors

Introduction to Biology Portion

Bio section is piece of cake, if and only if you have full grip over your bio book (Fsc) , u can ace
it... it's mostly about cramming, things to focus on (that we usually don’t think can come )

 Tables (all) should be on ur finger tips , use mnemonics to memorize them

 Diagrams also need attention , the LINES below the diagram and labeling
 Names of scientist and years of event e.g in year_____, a french scientist ______
proposed the idea ...
 All the anatomy in bio just require clearing ur concepts and they can be learned easily
that way
 Go through every line and highlight what seems like an important line and what u forget
easily (in that way , while revising u 'll focus more on lines ), don’t think like '' na yeh to
nai askata kabi '' because they can give Anything ...
 Some Mcqs are simple, they are just to check Ur attention and confidence (because if you
are tensed and confused, u could get that wrong) otherwise, they are simple, so keep Ur
nerves calm.

Introduction to Physics Portion

This portion is considered the toughest in NET. Probably because of involvement of too many
numerical type questions in it. There are some questions which can be solved just by putting the
values in the formula. In other questions you might get answer after using two or three formula
i.e. value obtained from one is used in next.

In order to be good at solving such questions first of all you should understand each and every
formula.
e.g. in F = ma you know about all the three terms, and further formulas if they have any.
Like m = w/g, a = time rate of change of velocity and so on.

You need to have such knowledge for all the formulas used in your text books. If any term isn't
explained in the book you must read about it on the internet. What you must do is prepare a
formula sheet. Write all the formulae of Part 1 and Part 2. And write the values of constants as
well. If you feel there is any term that isn’t explained in Fsc books read about it on the web and
add your findings in the formula sheet.
