renewable ecological park created by recycling the building
of a former purification plant, while at the same time being

Mullae-dong, formerly well-known for its iron stores, won
new fame as a new art space when a number of artists
began gathering here five or six years ago. It is home to
around 60 studios where 150 artists work in painting,
photography, or dance. They often carry out joint projects
to hold performances and funny exhibitions. Almost
every studio is open to the public, and film festivals and
bartering markets are held on a regular basis. ‘Mullae
Art Factory,’ a multi-purpose creation space, was opened
in January 2010 to support creative activities of artists.
It is equipped with a group workroom, a multi-purpose
platform, and an exhibition hall, as well as a recording
studio and hostel for artists.

complex equipped with a theater and gallery, establishing

The Anyangcheon Park Yeongdeungpo District has a

nickname, “Anyangcheon Yeongdeungpo Shelter.” The
park, which was found to be a natural ecological park,
features of the stream is the 4.7km-long waterside.
Eulalias and wild flowers densely-packed along the
waterfront create different atmospheres in each season.
Near the waterfront are a football field, a volleyball court,
a basketball court, a badminton court, tracks for athletic

The fabulous cherry flower festival, the messenger of spring. From early to mid - April, when
the cherry trees blossom, this festival is held every year along the Yeouido Park and Yeouiseo-
ro (behind the National Assembly) areas. During the festival, 1,641 king cherry trees originally
from Jeju Island, and 13 kinds of 87,859 trees including azaleas, golden-bell trees, royal azaleas,
bridal wreath and deutzia, dress in their delicate blossoms, creating a fantastic scene against the
Hangang in the background. Beginning with professional parade teams and spring flower parades
in which many citizens participate, all the streets are filled with a variety of cultural and artistic
performances and events for visitors to present a wonderful sight. At night, special landscape
lights shine on the cherry blossoms, creating a romantic mood.

displays. There are several spots for the easy and comfortable viewing of fireworks—event
sites within Hangang Park, the sky lounge of the 63 City, the riverside along the northern area
of Nodeulseom are just some of the places for excellent viewing. The very best place for an

The Mullae Art Festival is an independent art feast held in the iron store street of Mullae-dong
to offer a venue for experimental artists and their audience. The “Mullae” in the festival name
comes from the name of the town, Mullae-dong, and at the same time is the name of a spinning
device, reflecting this festival’s characteristic of creating art out of daily goods. This festival is
participated in both by the artists who created in the Mullae Creation Village and foreign artists.
Regardless of genre or nationality, all artists can take part in the festival to showcase their dance,

“January” means the first month of the year, and “Daeboreum” means the full moon indicating
January 1 of the lunar calendar. Ancient Korean society was a typical agricultural society. For
this reason, January Daeboreum was an important commemorative day in which supplications
were made for the well-being of the people living in the village, a good start to farming and a
rich harvest for the year. Today’s January Daeboreum Festival is held to pass down the traditions
and customs of January Daeboreum to the current generation. During the festival, people play
the yut game, fly kites, shoot marbles, and play Tuho and Gibulnori, the most exciting events
of all the Daeboreum activities in Omokgyo and the banks of the Anyangcheon. Gibulnori is a
traditional event that uses cans with a lit fire inside them or in which fires are set in the fields,

and represents the removal of all bad luck that might come.
