1. The document describes procedures for basic interception, procedural turn, boxing interception, and DME arc intercepts. 2. For basic interception, the pilot determines the line of position (LOP), desired radial, and intercept heading before turning to intercept the desired course. 3. For a procedural turn, the pilot determines LOP and desired radial, then turns left or right 45 degrees from heading before turning to the desired radial over 45 seconds. 4. For boxing interception, the pilot flies parallel to the desired radial before turning to intercept when abeam the fix, using maximum intercept headings of 90 degrees inbound or 60 degrees outbound.

BASIC INTERCEPTION PROCEDURAL TURN

1. Determine LOP (Line of Position – e.g. 1. Determine LOP

“inbound/outbound radial 140°”) 2. Twist OBS to proper setting
2. Determine DESIRED RADIAL
Heading Inbound (TO Indication) – Twist Opposite
3. Twist OBS to proper setting (FROM Indication)
Course Course & Radial

Inbound Outbound Heading Outbound (FROM Indication) – Twist

Radial Opposite (TO Indication)
4. Determine Procedure: BASIC INTERCEPTION
5. Determine Interception Angle
(Desired Radial – LOP) x 2 3. Determine turn: Left or Right
Inbound: 30, 60, 90 (Twist HDG BUG 45° to the L/R)
Outbound: 30, 45, 60 4. Turn: 5 Ts (Timer STBY)
6. Determine Interception HDG 5. On the HDG: Timer starts for 45 seconds
INT HDG +/- DES CRS to ref. CDI At 30 secs: Twist HDG BUG to INT HDG
7. Twist HDG BUG to Interception HDG (Reciprocal)
8. Turn to Desired Course 6. 45 seconds: Initiate Turn (5 Ts)
Note: Anticipate CDI Movement 7. Apply Basic Interception

BOXING INTERCEPTION (Note: If first turn is left, following turns is to the

right; vice versa)
1. Determine LOP
2. Determine DESIRED RADIAL DME ARC
3. Twist OBS to proper setting 1. Determine LOP
Course Course & Radial
2. Determine the Radial to Intercept
Inbound Outbound 3. LEAD DME: 1% x A/S
Radial
4. Twist OBS: 10° from current LOP (w/o RMI)
(Note: Check Flag Indication) (with RMI: Twist to desired radial and follow the
RMI)
4. Determine Procedure: BOXING INTERCEPTION 5. Twist HDG BUG (80° outbound or 100° inbound)
5. Twist HDG BUG parallel to DES RAD from CRS
6. Fly Parallel to the DES RAD 6. At Lead DME, Turn
(5 Ts: TURN, TIME, TWIST, THROTTLE, TALK) 7. Check DME if within limits
7. Abeam the Fix, CHANGE OF FLAG 8. CDI centers, twist OBS 10° towards the desired
radial (w/o RMI)
Inbound Timer Starts for 2 minutes, after 2 minutes
proceed with Basic Interception 9. Twist HDG 10° and turn (w/o RMI)
Outbound Proceed with Basic Interception 10. Repeat steps 7-9
11. Intercept Desired Radial 10° before
Note: Use maximum interception heading
(90° for inbound, 60° for outbound)
