MICROCODE VERSION 0726/B

RELEASED 11/07/2005

Newly supported features and functions for Version 0726/B

NONE

Improvements for Version 0726/B

1) Online “Drive Detach Mode” change support

Item Description
Contents Online “Drive Detach Mode” change support

The change of contents for Version 0726/B

1) Controller failure with “Micro program error [JSD]” or LA error
Item Description
Contents Controller may fail with the above error when the online controller replacement or the online
microcode replacement is performed. When this error occurs before the replaced or rebooted
controller comes back to a Ready condition, a subsystem down may occur.
Problem may occur when all the following conditions are met.
A) LU0 is undefined or LU0 is configure with small cache segment(4KB/8KB)
B) 2GB or more cache memory is installed on the controller
C) LU with RAID5 (4D+1P or 8D+1P) or RAID6 (4D+2P or 8D+2P)
D) Sequential write commands with more than 512KB/command are issued to an LU
E) During the above sequential writes, the online controller replacement or online microcode
replacement is performed

2) Subsystem Hung-up by Controller Failure during LU Ownership Change

Item Description
Contents In case that a controller failure occurs during an LU Ownership change by LU, the remaining
controller may be hung-up. Problem may occur when all the following conditions are met.
A) LU ownership change by LU is invoked by an operation from SNM or host I/O
B) The default owning controller of the LU is blocked during the above ownership change

3) Subsystem Hung-up by large size READ command

Item Description
Contents The subsystem may hang up when a host issues a Read command of large size (1MB) or larger
and random. Problem may occur when all the following conditions are met.
A) RAID6 with 17D+2P to 28D+2P
B) Random Read access from the host of 1MB or larger

4) Performance Degradation with RAID1/1+0

Item Description

HDS Confidential 1 of 2
Contents In case that random write I/Os are issued to multiple RAID groups, the performance of one of
the groups. Problem may occur when all the following conditions are met.
A) Equal to or Greater than 4 RAID groups defined
B) RAID1/1+0 are included
C) Random Write I/O are issued to the multiple groups

5) Invalid Sense Data for dual controller failure

Item Description
Contents When a dual interface failure (between controllers) is detected, the controller may terminate the
command with invalid sense data. Problem may occur when the following conditions are met.
A) Write command from the host
B) Dual I/F failure

6) Large number of System copy messages is displayed during power-on sequence

Item Description
Contents The following Web messages may be repeatedly displayed in power-on of the subsystem
Il40xy System copy started(Unit-x, HDU-y)
Il42xy System copy failed(Unit-x, HDU-y)
Problem may occur when all the following conditions are met.
A) WMS100 (does not occur on AMS500 or AMS200)
B) Power On subsystem
C) Single controller
D) Removed(missing) System HDD or system area HDD block
E) 0720/A or later
Microcode is improved to resolve this issue, System copy opportunity is added to the recover
the system area of SATA HDD (WMS100)

7) Incorrect Web Information Message for Controller failure

Item Description
Contents In case that random write I/Os are issued to multiple RAID groups, the performance of one of
the groups. Problem may occur when all the following conditions are met.
A) WMS100 (does not occur on AMS500 or AMS200
B) ENC firmware download starts(automatically or online ENC firmware download)
C) Controller failure occurs during the ENC reboot sequence after downloading the firmware
D) 0720/A or later

8) Full Dump for Copy-on-Write Snapshot cannot be obtained correctly

Item Description
Contents The file size of the full dump for Snapshot obtained from the Web is less than expected size; the
content length field used to download the full dump information is too short to transfer all the
data. Problem may occur when all the following conditions are met.
A) AMS500 ( this problem does not occur on AMS200/WMS100)
B) 4GB cache memory is installed on the controller
C) Copy-on-Write Snapshot is installed on the AMS500
D) Full dump(Snapshot) is directed from the Web using Netscape 4.x
