The document provides a list of discussion questions about global warming that cover its causes, impacts, and potential solutions. It asks students to describe pictures, discuss the relationship between pictures, and explain a diagram. It also prompts discussion about the greenhouse effect, greenhouse gas production and their environmental effects, activities that increase global warming, predictions about the planet's future, and actions governments, businesses and individuals can take to reduce global warming. A word bank defines key terms related to the causes, impacts and solutions of global warming.

Speaking activities
Describe the pictures referring to as many details as possible and
then try to explain the diagram. What is the relationship between the first three pictures? What comes to your mind when you think of global warming? What’s the difference between global warming and climate change? Do you think you have already experienced the effects of global warming? What is the greenhouse effect? Why this name? How are greenhouse gases produced? What effect do they have on the environment? What do you do in your daily life that might increase global warming? Do you think all countries take global warming seriously? Why not? What do scientists predict regarding the future of the Blue Planet? What should governments / politicians / businesses do to stop this process? What can individuals do in order to decrease global warming? Can they do anything at all? Look at the Word Bank and discuss:
CAUSES: burn fossil fuels (factories, power
stations, heating houses, cars, planes), increased emission of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, manmade CFC’s), greenhouse effect, manmade heat trap, the thinning of the ozone layer, solar radiation
warm, cause heat waves/ extreme floods/ droughts/ tornadoes/ natural disasters, animal/ plant species become endangered/extinct, water/food shortages, lands below sea level disappear, desertification, some areas become uninhabitable
SOLUTIONS: introduce laws/regulations, reach
international agreement, sustainable development, use renewable energy sources (solar/ wind/ water/ geothermal power, biomass), use energy efficient appliances/ rechargeable batteries/ public transport, plant trees, produce less waste, recycle, buy fresh food, go green
