    API 610 Cl 6.1.12 defines rated & preferred operating range (POR), which is not
    mandatory

    Best efficiency flowrate at which a pump achieves its highest efficiency at rated
    impeller diameter

    Rated flowrate shall be within the region of 80 % to 110 % of best efficiency flowrate
    of the pump

    Customer duty point not the same as BEP point.

    1. Operating point: pump is expected to operate under normal conditions, defined by


    Purchaser

    2. Rated point: designed & tested at this point, guaranteed by Manufacturer

    3. Allowable operating range (AOR): pump is able to operate whilst conforming to


    predefined API 610 vibration limits. Cl 6.9.3.1

    API 610 vibration levels:

    1. < 3mm/s for horizontal pumps and < 5mm/s for vertical pumps within the preferred
    operating region

    If a manufacturer can guarantee low noise and vibration limits (still within the API 610
    limits) for a duty outside of the rated and preferred operating ranges but within the allowable
    operating range it should be considered as a perfectly acceptable option.
