    Pirates of Silicon Valley
    Reflection Paper

    I was amazed at how the movie started with the editing and effects, because that is what I usually see on
    most of the tv shows and movie nowadays. In this movie you will see different types of personality when
    a person is doing his business and how they handle situations. In the movie differences of these two
    business magnates (earlier in their careers) were also witnessed. Steve Jobs was kind of unprofessional
    pushing his poor team members and co-founders to work 90 hours a week plus a bonus of frequent
    scream being the subject of his outburst. Though he’s got there an attitude problem and unreasonable
    temperament he still managed to promote the name of Apple. And he did become successful. The movie
    shows the inception of Apple and Microsoft. How both companies got started and influenced the
    mainstream technology. Big things start from small. So do Microsoft and Apple. Yes, even these gigantic
    companies started from scratch. Though there were ethical issues involved as to giving birth to Apple and
    Microsoft but for me that just made the entire picture more exciting. Piracy had been beneficial to the
    beginnings of Apple and Microsoft. But then, that doesn’t discount the fact that what they have done was
    wrong. Let’s not dwell on that any further. I like the attitude of Bill Gates in comes of work. But the only
    thing you will hate on him is his greediness. He made an offer to IBM with no assurance on his hand. And
    he take his own risk in making a deal on Steve Jobs that he will work for Apple as a developer. You will
    see Bill Gates in the movie to be a person with no other things on his mind but to compete on Apply and
    win the competition. The movie also emphasized the negative qualities of the two gentlemen that are now
    having big names worldwide. Despite of the unenthusiastic attitude of Steve Jobs to his team and co-
    founders, he still managed to uplift and give a renowned recognition of the Apple Company. On the other
    hand, Bill Gates also tried to put everyone down who are in the same business even though Microsoft at
    first was an underdog. Still, he survived and also made Microsoft as a threatening counterpart to Apple.
    Moreover, the movie highlighted on how Apple grabbed the idea of the Graphic User Interface from
    Xerox, how Microsoft purchased the first Disk Operating System from an underground programmer, and
    how Bill Gates developed Windows behind Steve Jobs’ back. For these reasons, the revolutionaries were
    depicted by the title movie itself as the Pirates of Silicon Valley. And I think, this was the reason why
    they are the richest person in the world. What was really amazing about the film was that the two
    contenders actually worked together until Steve Jobs realized that Bill Gates developed Windows using
    the software that Apple had programmed for their computers. The movie is really interesting for it caters
    the audience not only the development of the two largest computer companies but also the curious
    students especially students studying computer-related courses. The character of Bill Gates was quite hard
    to understand and I just kept seeing him as that nerdy kid who is nuts about computers but the characters
    of Steve Jobs and Bill.
