Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

• Students are actively engaged as the activity include the interactive whiteboard.
• Displays large tests for students.
• Students answer on their own devices, presented as a game.
• Time can be adjusted to fit the needs of variety of learners in the classroom.
• Students receive immediate feedback from each question.
• Standard aligned activity
• Students can access the activity while at home, beyond the classroom.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
I would plan to implement the SRT activity twice during this unit of content. Prior to the activity, I will inform
the students that we are beginning a unit over comparing plant and animal cells. I would first present this as a
pre-test to assess the students’ prior knowledge. This will help for planning the upcoming lessons to present
over the plant and animal cells. I would introduce the activity as a game to motivate students to participate. I
will demonstrate how the game works prior to beginning the Kahoot. At the end of the unit, I will re-
introduce the Kahoot as a review game prior to the unit assessment. Students who answer 6/8 questions
correctly will gain bonus points on their test.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation

☒ Survey/Poll ☒ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

The activity will take place in the classroom. During the activity, students will work with their own laptop or
tablet in a seat of their choice, so long as they can see the IWB. The teacher will read each question aloud and
have the students answer on their devices. The amount of time for the activity should be around 15 minutes
but could vary on the times the teacher have set for each question.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): n/a

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
I am initially using the SRT activity as a pre-assessment. I think it’s important for student to know what they
answered correctly so that they know what questions they need to gain information for. It also helps me as
the teacher to gain knowledge of what to focus my lessons on. Once we use the activity again as a review, the
students can compare what they previously answered wrong to their new results and are able to self-assess
and see the knowledge they have gained as well as the teacher assessing the knowledge the students gained.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the activity, the teacher will review questions more commonly missed by having a discussion with the
students. After the review at the end of the unit, the teacher may need to do a mini lesson over the content
students may still be struggling with. This activity is used as a formative assessment to understand what
student’s have learned from the previous activity.

How will the data be used?

The results from each time the activity is completed will be a source of data from the teacher to use to focus
on areas of content that may be more difficult for students to understand. The teacher can use this data to
adjust future lessons and possibly re-teach the content. The data is also used to determine the students’ prior
knowledge of the content before implementing the lesson.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

My personal learning goal for using Kahoot in the lesson is to present content in an engaging way that allows
the students to be active learners during the activity. By presenting this activity as a game, the students may
enjoy their learning.

Reflective Practice:
To further extend this lesson, I would allow the students to work at student -pace to allow them more time
for each question. By doing this, the students can focus more on the questions that may give them difficulty.

The Kahoot activity allows me to gather data needed to form the lesson based on the students’ prior
knowledge and time can be focused on specifically what they need to learn rather than wasted time on what
they may already know. I could also have the students create their own Kahoot in groups based on their own
questions they created to present as reviews for other groups in the class.
