Product Description Design Features

John Crane’s Metastream® TSR/TLR range of membrane • Fit and Forget - Designed for infinite life, and with
couplings has been specifically designed to provide a correct machinery alignment will out last the machines
solution for close coupled machinery. The key benefit of that it is connected to
this coupling is the ability to replace membranes without • Overload Protection - Fitted with overload collars to
the need to move either of the connected machines. protect the membranes in the event of severe torsional
• Easy maintenance without moving machines overload
• The motor can be isolated easily by removing the split • Low Imposed Loads - Designed to optimize their torque
spacer element capability, whilst minimizing the reaction forces due to
• Close coupled Distance Between Shaft Ends (DBSE), misalignment
fully variable from 3 mm upwards • Zero Maintenance - No relative moving parts, and hence
• Operated in either direction requires no lubrication or routine maintenance

• Choice of hub configuration to suit DBSE • Ease of Assembly - Can be replaced without moving the
associated machines
• Designed for the life of the connecting machines
• No Backlash - Ensure that there is zero backlash
• AGMA Class 8 intrinsic balance
• Phosphate coating for corrosion protection

Selection Procedure (Metric)

1. Select appropriate service factor (SF). Example:
2. Calculate the coupling rating R from: 150 kW electric motor connected to a centrifugal pump at
R = kW x 1000 x SF 2960 rpm with a 10 mm DBSE.
N SF = 1.0
R = 150 x 1000 x 1.0
Where:
kW = rated power for driven equipment (kW) 2960
N = speed (rev./min) R = 50.7 kW per 1000 rpm
3. Select a coupling with the same or higher rating.
4. Check DBSE. Selection: TSRC – 0075
5. Check the hub bore capacity is suitable, if not select a DBSE is between 3 and 39 mm
lager size coupling. Maximum parallel shaft bore is 50 mm
6. Check peak torque capability is suitable for application. Peak torque capability – 1430 Nm
7. Check speed capability. Maximum speed capability is 5,800 rpm
8. Specify DBSE as appropriate. Designation – TSRC – 0075 – 0077 – 0000
Actual SF = 1.48

Balance Condition
This coupling is designed with a high inherent balance, due to the precision of the manufacturing process. It is important
that all parts are carefully stored and fitted to maintain this integrity.
The inherent balance of the TSR/TLR range meets AGMA standard 9000-C90 class 8. The maximum operating speeds
listed in the table on page 2 are on the basis of this AGMA class 8 characteristic, to provide a general guide to maximum
permissible speed. If higher speeds are required contact John Crane for an alternative coupling selection or special balance
if required.
